                January 18, 2011

Jesus: I have called you by name
                I am your God
                I love you
I want your lives given to Me —

Come unto Me all who are weary

When your heart hurts come and lay your
                    head on My shoulder

Jesus: I am gentle and kind in heart —

Once a man was so angry he wanted
                    to hurt others —

Why do you do this when I am here
with My love and My gifts for
you and I give you abundantly
If you come to Me —

I am kind and gentle in heart —
I command you to love —
                I died for you

                I gave you these gifts
I rose on the third day —
I share My life with you —
I give you the priests —

I ask you in your vocation to sacrifice,
to pray for the priests, the
                    Church and the world —

                Moving Steadfast to Me
Moving Steadfast to the Son of God —

I bring you peace and joy —

If you choose an angry heart
against God's will for you —
                    you will have a dissatisfying
                    experience —

                You have a choice —
                You can choose love —

Rejoice in the gifts I have given to
                    you —

                Rejoice in the Lord —
                Be thankful
                Be filled with gratitude —

                Excerpt from January 7, 2011

                Here is a riddle

A person was called by God to
                do something —

Like God calls us to pray
                        on the 5ths and 13ths —

It is not for another to plan
                        something else when we
                        know God wants something
                        on a special day —

The devil works this way —
trying to get us to choose
                    to do something — the
                    same time something else is
                    to happen and is important
                    causing a dissatisfying experience —
                    conflict —
                    confusion —

                Satan is confusion —

If God wants us to do something —
                    a person wanting to serve
God — obeys the rules —
                    and goes along with the
                    rules —

                A person planning something else
                    is causing confusion —
                    tension —
                    a dissatisfying experience will
                    occur —

God calls us to do certain things —
We pray to do those things in
                        harmony —
                        in love —

                Choosing to schedule something
                    else — when something is
going on — then getting angry
                    because what was originally
scheduled got in our way —
                    is to choose something
                    dissatisfying and then, of course,
                    cause conflict, anger,
                    confusion, a dissatisfying
                    experience for ones self
                    and all others involved
                    in the original event —

                end of excerpt

Jesus: When you choose to love — you do not
                    give to prove you were
                    mistreated —

You live to do God's will

You don't plan and go against God's will
and try to make it work —

The Father's Will for Us  - Our Source of Peace

  • Pope John Paul II instructs us: "The Church, as a reconciled and reconciling community, cannot forget that at the source of her gift and mission of reconciliation is the initiative, full of compassionate love and mercy, of that God who is love (see 1 John 4:8) and who out of love created human beings (see Wisdom 11:23-26; Genesis 1:27: Psalms 8:4-8)…He created them so that they might live in friendship with Him and in communion with one another.

"God is faithful to His eternal plan even when man, under the impulse of the evil one (see Wisdom 2:24) and carried away by his own pride, abuses the freedom given to him in order to love and generously seek what is good, and (instead) refuses to obey his Lord and Father. God is faithful even when man, instead of responding with love to God’s love, opposes Him and treats Him like a rival, deluding himself and relying on his own power, with the resulting break of relationship with the One who created him. In spite of this transgression on man’s part, God remains faithful in love.

"It is certainly true that the story of the Garden of Eden makes us think about the tragic consequences of rejecting the Father, which becomes evident in man’s inner disorder and in the breakdown of harmony between man and woman, brother and brother (see Genesis 3:12 ff; 4:1-16). Also significant is the Gospel parable of the two brothers (the parable of the ‘prodigal son’; see Luke 15:11-32) who, in different ways, distance themselves from their father and cause a rift between them. Refusal of God’s fatherly love and of His loving gifts is always at the root of humanity’s divisions.

"But we know that God…like the father in the parable (of the prodigal son), does not close His heart to any of His children. He waits for them, looks for them, goes to meet them at the place where the refusal of communion imprisons them in isolation and division. He calls them to gather about His table in the joy of the feast of forgiveness and reconciliation.

"This initiative on God’s part is made concrete and manifest in the redemptive act of Christ, which radiates through the world by means of the ministry of the Church." 13

Words of Jesus to Members of
Shepherds of Christ Associates:

"My beloved priest-companion, I intend to use the priestly newsletter, Shepherds of Christ, and the movement, Shepherds of Christ Associates, in a powerful way for the renewal of My Church and the world.

"I will use the newsletter and the chapters of Shepherds of Christ Associates as a powerful instrument for spreading devotion to My Heart and My Mother's Heart.

"I am calling many to become members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. To all of them I will give great blessings. I will use them as instruments to help bring about the triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the reign of My Sacred Heart. I will give great graces to the members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. I will call them to be deeply united to My Heart and to Mary's Heart as I lead them ever closer to My Father in the Holy Spirit."

Apostles of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus

My dear fellow Associate Members,

Jesus is calling special apostles to join a new division of the Shepherds of Christ Movement. Here is a message from Jesus given to Father Carter:

My beloved priest-companion, I am requesting that a new prayer movement be started under the direction of Shepherds of Christ Ministries. I am asking for volunteers who are willing to pray before the Blessed Sacrament for one hour, twice-weekly. Members of the Shepherds of Christ prayer chapters, as well as others, are to be invited to join this movement.

These apostles are to pray for the intentions I am giving you. For part of the hour they are to use the prayers of the Shepherds of Christ Associates Handbook. They may spend the rest of the hour as they so choose.

I will use this new prayer movement within My Shepherds of Christ Ministries in a powerful way to help in the renewal of My Church and the world. I will give great graces to those who join this movement. The name, Apostles of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, is to be given to this movement.

I am inviting My beloved Rita Ring to be coordinator for this activity.

I pour out the great love of My Sacred Heart to all. I am Jesus, Chief Shepherd of the flock.

This is indeed a special calling for us to unite in one heart with His Eucharistic Heart and pray for the following intentions:

    1. For the spread of the devotion to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary culminating in the reign of the Sacred Heart and the triumph of the Immaculate Heart.
    2. For the Pope.
    3. For all bishops of the world.
    4. For all priests.
    5. For all sisters and brothers in the religious life.
    6. For all members of the Shepherds of Christ Movement, and for the spread of this movement to the world.
    7. For all members of the Catholic Church.
    8. For all members of the human family.
    9. For all souls in purgatory.

Isaiah 8: 23 - 9: 3

For is not everything dark as night
    for a country in distress?

As the past humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, so the future will glorify the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan, the territory of the nations.

The people that walked in darkness
    have seen a great light;
on the inhabitants of a country
    in shadow dark as death
        light has blazed forth.
You have enlarged the nation,
    you have increased its joy;
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at harvest time,
as they exult
when they are dividing the spoils.

For the yoke that weighed on it,
    the bar across its shoulders,
the rod of its oppressor,
these you have broken
as on the day of Midian.

The Lord is My Light and My Salvation

Psalm 27: 1, 4, 13-14

Yahweh is my light and my salvation,
    whom should I fear?
Yahweh is the fortress of my life,
    whom should I dread?

One thing I ask of Yahweh,
    one thing I seek:
to dwell in Yahweh’s house
all the days of my life,
to enjoy the sweetness of Yahweh,
    to seek out his temple.

This I believe: I shall see the goodness of Yahweh,
in the land of the living.
Put your hope in Yahweh, be strong, let your heart be bold,
    put your hope in Yahweh.

1 Corinthians 1: 10-13, 17

Brothers, I urge you, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, not to have factions among yourselves but all to be in agreement in what you profess; so that you are perfectly united in your beliefs and judgements. From what Chloe's people have been telling me about you, brothers, it is clear that there are serious differences among you. What I mean is this: every one of you is declaring, 'I belong to Paul,' or 'I belong to Apollos,' or 'I belong to Cephas,' or 'I belong to Christ.'  Has Christ been split up? Was it Paul that was crucified for you, or was it in Paul's name that you were baptised?

After all, Christ sent me not to baptise, but to preach the gospel; and not by means of wisdom of language, wise words which would make the cross of Christ pointless.

Matthew 4: 12-23

Hearing that John had been arrested he withdrew to Galilee, and leaving Nazara he went and settled in Capernaum, beside the lake, on the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali. This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:

Land of Zebulun! Land of Naphtali!
Way of the sea beyond Jordan.
    Galilee of the nations!
The people that lived in darkness
    have seen a great light;
    on those who lived
in a country of shadow dark as death
    a light has dawned.

From then onwards Jesus began his proclamation with the message, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of Heaven is close at hand.’

As he was walking by the Lake of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew; they were making a cast into the lake with their net, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Come after me and I will make you fishers of people.’ And at once they left their nets and followed him.

Going on from there he saw another pair of brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they were in their boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. And at once, leaving the boat and their father, they followed him.

He went round the whole of Galilee teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing all kinds of disease and illness among the people.

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

January 27, 2008

INTRODUCTION: Galilee is located about 75 miles north of Jerusalem.  With cars and expressways, that doesn’t seem very far today, but since most people traveled on foot at the time of Jesus, it was a considerable distance. Galilee had a difficult history.  Seven hundred years before Christ the Assyrians destroyed Galilee and took most of its citizens, the ones they didn’t kill, and moved them far away from their homes in Galilee.  That kept conquered nations from regrouping and rebelling against them.  A lot of pagans were moved into Galilee.  By the time of Jesus seven hundred years later, there were still a lot of pagans living there and Jews as well who had moved back so the population was pretty well mixed.

In spite of its destruction by the Assyrians, and the devastation they left behind, the prophet Isaiah, who was at that time living in Jerusalem, forsaw good things for Galilee.  Into the spiritual and social darkness that covered the land, Isaiah said a light would shine.  You might remember those lines from the first reading on Christmas.  St. Matthew quotes this long passage from Isaiah to tell us Jesus was the fulfillment of that prophecy.  It would have been normal for a religious teacher like Jesus to do his preaching and teaching mainly in Jerusalem. (Joachim Jeremias pg 242)   Jesus however chose to begin his ministry in Galilee where he spent most of his life.  Jesus was the light that the people of Galilee, the people living in darkness, had longed for.  In these readings Galilee is called by the names of two of the tribes of Israel that originally settled there: Zebulun and Naphtali.

HOMILY: According to the Bible, the first gift God created was light.  Afterwards, when God was creating other things like fish and birds and cattle and creeping things and animals and human beings he gave us all eyes to be able to appreciate what the light revealed to us.  And he gave us a brain to be able to interpret, to a greater or lesser degree, what is seen.  Although we wonder at times how intelligent human beings are, science tells us we humans have the most developed brain of all life on this planet.

With our imaginative and creative and logical minds we can see things that do not even exist, including abstract ideas.  We speak in terms of light and seeing when we have ideas, such as: “I see how that’s done,” or “this just dawned on me,” or “I saw the light.”   This notion of seeing something with our mind’s eye also applies to spiritual things too.  St. Matthew describes Jesus’ ministry in Galilee in the words of the prophet Isaiah: “the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light.”  Jesus spoke of light to describe his own ministry when he said: “I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  (Jn 8,12)  The term “revelation” is a theological term that identifies this light that God gives us.  When we let ourselves be guided by that light it is called “faith.”  Faith is nothing other than a way of seeing with God’s own eyes.  Our faith gives us a vision that ironically comes, not through what we see with our eyes or create with our minds, but through what we hear with our ears!  It tells us why we were created, how we are to live, how we are to treat one another, what is going to happen after we die.  It is a vision that is sometimes crystal clear, like when Jesus tells us about the importance of love for God and for each other. Other times it is blurry; for example, when St. Paul talks about the next life, he tells us “at present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror” (mirrors were not so wonderful in those days.)  Faith is a way of seeing that is based simply on the word Jesus spoke to us.  In some cases, what we see in faith contradicts what we see with our eyes, like: “This is my body.”  It contradicts what we see, but in faith we choose not to believe our eyes but to believe God’s word which we have considered to be more reliable.  I wonder how much brighter life would be for all of us and for the world in general if our minds and hearts were more open to the light that Christ has brought us.

When we were baptized a candle was given to us with the words, “Receive the light of Christ.”  For most of us that candle was given to our parents or sponsors to hold for us.  It was up to them to help us live by that light.  Obviously we have lived by that light or we wouldn’t be here today.  I commend you for that and thank you for it.

But that light should not be kept hidden.  Through confirmation we have been commissioned to bring that light to others.  Jesus not only said “I am the light of the world, but he also said “you are the light of the world.”  Today we heard about Jesus choosing four disciples who would one day set the world on fire with his light.  But they did their job a long time ago and passed Christ’s light on to others, and those others passed it on to others and eventually it got to us.  We have the faith because someone led us to it.  If others in the future are to have the faith, it will depend on us.  We have to share with others the light we have received.  We don’t have to get up and preach to do that.  We can do it by the way we live, by being morally good, honest, loving people.  We can invite people to come to church with us.  When we have the opportunity, we can share our faith by simply telling others what our faith means to us.  When we try to debate doctrine, we can get in a big argument, but if we tell someone how much my faith means to us, who can argue with that?

In summary, God has blessed us in many ways. One of the reasons we’re here today is to give thanks (that’s what Eucharist means).  He created light and gave us the ability to see by it.  But God gave us the greatest gift of all when he sent his Son, Jesus, to us and gave us the ability to believe in him.  For his light will enlighten our lives throughout eternity.  May others come to walk in his light too.  Amen.

I Want Both Feet Off the Ground

January 18, 1994 4:40 a.m.

R. Dear Jesus, I am ready for Your work. I love You. I am sorry I didn't get to Mass because of the snow. I love You, Jesus.

Jesus: You mustn't feel that I am displeased because you stayed home. You need to be with Me at home just as you are in church. Focus on Me and My love for you and keep making Spiritual Communions. I am Jesus. I am present. I talk, you write. I am He Whose bootstraps you are unworthy to tie. I am He Who loves you intently. If you only knew a little of My love, you would be preaching about Me from a high mountain.

You are he that wants one foot on the earth and one foot in the air. One foot will let go, but the other is not willing. I want both of your feet off the floor. That extra security you hold on to, just in case--that is what makes you worldly. I demand you let go entirely. You will then be free in My love. You will soar! As long as you think you are doing any of it yourself you stop yourself from the total freedom of letting go.

So here you are and I am telling you in your heart to do something and you decide to ask someone else, or you procrastinate, or you want proof. I don't give proof! The beauty of total surrender is to have no proof and total trust in Him Who truly loves you! "Well, Lord, I know you are telling me this." Then, do it child! Let go! Feel the freedom of flying. You are totally free. I am running the balloons. You, child, let go. You totally surrendered to Me and at first you were afraid, but here you are flying and it is such freedom! Take in the sights. Be lighted on your way. Do you trust Me like that? If you don't, you are still in control.

The will of The Father I make clear to you. You want that security the world says you should have. The world is not secure. It is built on a sinking ship. It may look secure, but in one instant your ship could sink and if you are counting on yourself, what will you do?

I sail your balloon to heights you never dreamed possible. Let go. I run the balloon. There may be a little wind, but the freedom of sailing, of knowing you will never lose your way because Jesus is holding you up, what power Jesus has over all and He holds you up! If you go out on a limb for Him, He supports the limb. "Scary," you say? "Freedom," I say! When you trust your interior promptings this much, when you know God is this close that you will do whatever He calls you to, despite the world, that is freedom. You are My special messengers. The world is teaching some awfully sick messages. People are getting literally sick. Become selfless, let Me possess you so I can do what I need to through you.

The world wants you to have security, insurance, jobs that they consider safe. "Be sure you have all these things to be sure." Sure of what? That in one minute there can be an earthquake and it all is destroyed? You are not sure! I have all the power. You are so silly to think you are sure of anything in this world.

There is only one thing you can be sure of: I am Jesus, Son of the Living God. Put your trust in Me and then you are sure. You may not receive a reward in this world, but you, for sure, will receive a golden reward in the next.

Let go, My children. Seek after only the things of God. Do not store up earthly treasures that wither and fade. Store up heavenly treasures that never die.

Let go, My children. I am waiting for you to let go with both of your feet. Jump into the arms of Him Who saves you. You let go, I catch you. God is there to hold you up lest you stumble and lose your way.

You walk the road to My love. It does not go down the solid roads the world has built. It is a road suspended in the sky. To know Me is to let go. Get off that road that appears to the world as solid. You know an earthquake can split that road in half. Walk My road with Me. That may mean the road seems to be missing at times. But you do not have your ducks in a row. Minute by minute you follow a road supported by Me. What freedom! To trust in Me, to do My work with support from Me is so free, but so uncertain for your earthly minds.

I tell you in your hearts. The world wouldn't even hear that which becomes to you a command to obedience. I tell you to do such things. The more I possess your soul, the more it becomes Me acting out of you. You know you are doing things you would not have done before.

This is Me. When you beg Me to possess your soul, you let go and I take over. You don't need security here. You only need the inner promptings and the trust in your heart that God has spoken and you follow His command.

How can I minister to this sick world if you choose to keep one foot on what the world calls "solid ground"? I want to possess you. I want to operate from your very being. I want to be in constant communion with you. I want you to hear the pipeline to Me every second you breathe. You will do this when you let go. I need to have full reign to operate from you as I see fit. Believe Me, I will not be doing what you would do.

When you see yourself moving selflessly ahead, doing My work, no questions asked, when you are listening to your information from within instead of from without, then your pipeline is open and working. Your answers are in your heart. You search for your answers in a senseless world, while you cover up the answers in your heart. Let Me possess you. Be selfless, be unattached. Operate as I am telling you in your heart.

"But," you say, "Oh, how do you test it?" That is the world. The more you know Me, you do not even think. It is I Who operate you. You do not even deliberate. I just work through you and you see that what you did was a vital move in My plan. But you did not even deliberate much. You were pushed in that direction and you knew you had to do it.

Child, listen to your heart. I am calling you to quiet union with Me. Silence with Me. Let Me change you and make you open. Say the Prayer for Union with Jesus, then let go and let Me do My work. I need your total submission. Your security is not found in thinking. It is found in your heart, in being so attached to Me that it is I Who live and act from your soul.

I operate you like a little windup doll. You don't worry and fret. You just go. You ask no questions. You are selfless and unattached and what you achieve is the work of the Son of Man.

I am Jesus. I am God. I am He Who wants to possess you and use you. When I do something, I do not make mistakes. Quit trying to do it yourself. Let Me operate you. Let Me do it all. Get both feet off the ground and say, "Lord, Lord, I give you My all. You use me, You run me, You possess me. I am Yours." Die to yourself and all the things of the world. You are he whom I want to possess and use to do My work. If you continue to do it your way, it is your doing a so-so job. Let go and let Me do My work as I want it done!

Don't ask questions. Don't jump back to the ground and say, "Oh, but it got scary out there with nothing under my feet. I just wanted to stand on solid ground." My ground is all that you must walk. You do not have a choice. My life in you is like being suspended in midair. It only feels good when you have decided that you will let go, that you know in your heart that trusting in Me is the only way. What freedom, to sail the sky and never ever look for security!

This is life in Me. You can't go to the world. Life with Me is like this. Life in the world is sick. You can't go there. You don't let go so you are not fully here. So, there is discontent in your heart. One foot on, one foot off. Surrender, My child. Let go with both feet and don't question! I will lift you up and lead you on your way. I need you to do My work in this world. If you become selfless and let Me possess you, you will operate just as I want you to because I will be doing the work.

Don't look for security! Pray constantly. I am as close as your breath. I am He Who powers you. You will not falter for I will catch you on your way. Your only job is to let go and trust. Know I am truly here and you are never abandoned. I love you so. You are doing My work with all your heart and I am powering your heart. Let go. Living in Me is not the security that the world preaches. It is like being in midair and knowing I am by your side and will catch you. If you feel your life is like this, being in midair, you are doing a great job. But it is not you at all. It is I Who sustain you. It is I Who act from you. You are My precious ones. You, I love to My death! Trust Me. I died for you. I am your beautiful Jesus. I am your spouse. I am ever by your side and I love you with a heart on fire for love of you. Surrender. Let go and you will be free in the Lord!

R. Alleluia. And He made them His workers and they acted as He did in them and the world knew His love in mighty proportion through those who chose to serve the Lord. Alleluia. Our hearts are lifted to such heights in Him. His ways are secure!

The angel Gabriel appeared to Mary

                    Mary is the perfect handmaid
                        of the Lord —

God is calling us to help build His Kingdom
                    We are to serve Him
We are to love God and others as ourselves —

Genesis 3: 17-19

To the man he said, ‘Because you listened to the voice of your wife and ate from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat,

Accursed be the soil because of you!
Painfully will you get your food from it
   as long as you live.
It will yield you brambles and thistles,
as you eat the produce of the land.
By the sweat of your face
   will you earn your food,
until you return to the ground,
as you were taken from it.
   For dust you are
and to dust you shall return.’

                There is funerals today because
                    others caused people violence —

                God calls us to love

See a man die and if he is a man
like Pope John Paul II how many
                    people he helped —

See a person bringing down violence
to others because of their own
                    anger and we have the
                    shootings we recently
                    heard of —

Thus a funeral for violence done
                    to others —

                Excerpt from January 16, 2011

                Fr. Joe said: One weekend
A doctor and priest and lawyer went out
deep sea fishing — they went in
the ocean — the motor conked out — so they
oared and then the oar fell in — so the
doctor wanted to go in. There were lots of sharks.
                        The doctor said he couldn't
                        go in because sharks were
out there and he rationalized they
                        might need medical help —
so he declined going in to get the oar —

Then the priest said they might
need a priest he couldn't go to
                        get the oar —

                    Then the lawyer said
                        "I'll go"
                        "It's professional courtesy"
He got in, got the oar and got out —
The priest and doctor were amazed —

                        The lawyer said —
                            "Somebody has to stick their
                            neck out"

                        Jesus stuck His neck out — . . .

Like a fish in the ocean, the fish can't
see the ocean because he is
                    in it floating around —

Seven Levels of Commitment in the Shepherds of Christ Movement

  1. There are Associates who gather and pray at least once monthly as a group and also help with donations to support the Shepherds of Christ priestly newsletter. They can be tremendously involved. They give as they feel they are able.

  2. Apostles are members who have restricted their apostolic activity to the Shepherds of Christ. They literally act as a body of lay people who have given their lives in their present living situation to do all that they can to bring about the Reign of the Sacred Heart and the triumph of Mary's Immaculate Heart.

  3. Prayer Apostles are often shut-ins, some are able to go to church and pray. They spend much of their lives praying for the Movement.

  4. Apostles of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus are those who spend at least two separate hours weekly before the Blessed Sacrament praying for the following:

  1. 1.  For the spread of the devotion to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary culminating in the reign of the Sacred Heart and the triumph of the Immaculate Heart.

  2. 2.  For the Pope.

  3. 3.  For all bishops of the world.

  4. 4.  For all priests.

  5. 5.  For all sisters and brothers in the religious life.

  6. 6.  For all members of the Shepherds of Christ Movement, and for the spread of this   Movement to the world.

  7. 7.  For all members of the Catholic Church.

  8. 8.  For all members of the human family.

  9. 9.  For all souls in purgatory.

  1. Handmaids of the Good Shepherd are young and older women who have given their lives in community primarily to pray for the Shepherds of Christ Movement and intentions and to be special spouses of Jesus. Some have more duties than others. All have the primary duty of prayer and the desire to be a special spouse of our Lord. One of the functions of the handmaids is the involvement in praying for and helping to circulate the priestly newsletter. The handmaids are not members of a religious order.

  2. Servants of the Good Shepherd are men who live in community with a lifestyle and purpose similar to that of the handmaids. The servants are not members of a religious order.

  3. We wish to form a special congregation of priests who will realize their great oneness with Christ. They will be consecrated deeply to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary and support the Shepherds of Christ Movement as holy priests.
