4th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jeremiah 1: 4-5, 17-19

The word of Yahweh came to me, saying:

        ‘Before I formed you in the womb
            I knew you;
        before you came to birth
            I consecrated you;
        I appointed you as prophet to the nations.’

 The word of Yahweh came to me, saying:

 ‘As for you, prepare yourself for action.
 Stand up and tell them
 all I command you.
 Have no fear of them
 and in their presence
    I will make you fearless.
 For look, today I have made you
 into a fortified city,
 a pillar of iron,
 a wall of bronze
 to stand against the whole country:
 the kings of Judah, its princes,
 its priests and the people of the country.
 They will fight against you
 but will not overcome you,
 for I am with you,
 Yahweh declares,
 to rescue you.’

1 Corinthians 12:3113:1-13

Set your mind on the higher gifts. And now I am going to put before you the best way of all.

Though I command languages both human and angelic—if I speak without love, I am no more than a gong booming or a cymbal clashing. And though I have the power of prophecy, to penetrate all mysteries and knowledge, and though I have all the faith necessary to move mountains—if I am without love, I am nothing. Though I should give away to the poor all that I possess, and even give up my body to be burned—if I am without love, it will do me no good whatever.

    Love is always patient and kind; love is never jealous; love is not boastful or conceited, it is never rude and never seeks its own advantage, it does not take offence or store up grievances. Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but finds its joy in the truth. It is always ready to make allowances, to trust, to hope and to endure whatever comes.

    Love never comes to an end. But if there are prophecies, they will be done away with; if tongues, they will fall silent; and if knowledge, it will be done away with. For we know only imperfectly, and we prophesy imperfectly; but once perfection comes, all imperfect things will be done away with. When I was a child, I used to talk like a child, and see things as a child does, and think like a child; but now that I have become an adult, I have finished with all childish ways. Now we see only reflections in a mirror, mere riddles, but then we shall be seeing face to face. Now I can know only imperfectly; but then I shall know just as fully as I am myself known.

    As it is, these remain: faith, hope and love, the three of them; and the greatest of them is love

 Luke 4: 21-30

Then he began to speak to them, ‘This text is being fulfilled today even while you are listening.’ And he won the approval of all, and they were astonished by the gracious words that came from his lips.

    They said, ‘This is Joseph’s son, surely?’ But he replied, ‘No doubt you will quote me the saying, “Physician, heal yourself,” and tell me, “We have heard all that happened in Capernaum, do the same here in your own country.” ’ And he went on, ‘In truth I tell you, no prophet is ever accepted in his own country.

    There were many widows in Israel, I can assure you, in Elijahs day, when heaven remained shut for three years and six months and a great famine raged throughout the land, but Elijah was not sent to any one of these: he was sent to a widow at Zarephath, a town in Sidonia. And in the prophet Elishas time there were many suffering from virulent skin-diseases in Israel, but none of these was cured—only Naaman the Syrian.

When they heard this everyone in the synagogue was enraged. They sprang to their feet and hustled him out of the town; and they took him up to the brow of the hill their town was built on, intending to throw him off the cliff, but he passed straight through the crowd and walked away.

4th Sunday in Ordinary Time

January 31, 2010

INTRODUCTION – (Jeremiah 1:4-5, 17-19; 1 Cor. 12:31-13:13; Lk 4:21-30) As St. Luke begins his gospel, he tells why he wrote it and how he went about it. We heard that last week. Then he goes on to tell us the beautiful stories about the birth of John the Baptist and Jesus and about how Jesus was lost in the Temple when he was twelve years old. We are not told what else happened to Jesus as he was growing up. Since it was the custom in those days, we can only assume that he worked with his father as a craftsman. About the age of thirty, Jesus was baptized by John in the Jordan then was led by the Spirit into the desert to fast and pray for 40 days. Luke then begins to tell us about Jesus’ ministry of teaching and healing and his visit to his hometown of Nazareth. As a devout person, Jesus went to the synagogue faithfully on the Sabbath and was invited to do a reading from the prophet Isaiah and teach on it. This is where last Sunday’s gospel ended. Today we hear how his relatives and former neighbors responded to his message – with enthusiasm at first, but it turned into hostility. Our first reading, as usual, prepares us for the gospel. Jeremiah the prophet heard God’s call to preach, a job that God warned him would lead to suffering and rejection.

HOMILY – Overheard in a restaurant: a lady was telling her friend, “my husband and I had a big argument and we ended up not talking to one another for three days. Finally, on the third day he asked where one of his shirts was. I said ‘So, now you’re talking to me.’ He looked confused and asked ‘What are you talking about?’ I said, ‘haven’t you noticed I haven’t spoken to you for three days?’ He said: ‘No, I just thought we were getting along.’” (from Reader’s Digest book, Laughter – the Best Medicine) Such is the joy and complexity of love. I’ll say something about that later. But first, today’s gospel.

    We are left with a lot of questions. How is it that Jesus’ visit to his hometown turned from enthusiasm to such hostility they wanted to kill him? Or how did he get away from them without being harmed? Is Luke telling us, in summarized form, what took place over the course of a number of visits Jesus made to Nazareth as he began his ministry? Luke doesn’t answer our concerns. The only detail he gives us is that the people didn’t consider Jesus anyone special – even though they were already familiar with stories of his miraculous powers. I think St. Luke is giving us a warning of what was ahead for Jesus: how his ministry of teaching and healing started out to be very popular with the people. Gradually, as people, especially some of the Jewish leaders, really started to understand his message, opposition to him grew until he was put to death. Perhaps Luke is teaching us that we can’t take Jesus on our terms but on his terms; we can’t make Jesus into who we would like him to be. We must accept him on the basis of who he want us to be. Perhaps Luke is also showing us that Jesus was not a politician who tried to cater to people’s wants; he was a prophet who would be faithful to the mission God sent him on, no matter what the consequences were.

    Our second reading from St. Paul is one of the most beautiful passages written by him. It is especially popular at weddings, and rightly so. It may sound romantic, and indeed a couple who loves one another in the way Paul describes love would surely not lose the romance in their relationship. But the love Paul talks about does not happen easily or without effort. It demands discipline, unselfishness and self-sacrifice. As Paul says, love is not self-seeking; he insists that without love we are nothing.Paul means this literally. His argument for this statement comes one chapter earlier in his letter when he compares the Christian Community to the body of Christ. We are all a part of that body and none of us can say we can get along without the other members of the body. It’s like our own body. It has many parts, and each part functions because it is part of the whole. If our arm were cut off it may have the appearance of an arm, but literally it would not be an arm. It would be a mass of bone and skin and flesh. It’s only an arm when it is connected to the body, which gives it its life and it’s ability to function. Without its connection to the body, it is nothing. What connects us with one another and makes us one body is love. Without love we are separate individuals, no longer one with our head, which is Christ, and no longer one with each other. Thus he argues that even if any of us were miracle workers and had all kinds of spiritual gifts, without love we are nothing. The word Paul uses for love (agape) is not the kind of love that seeks some kind of reward from the one we love (i.e., it is not based on what we can get out of a relationship). Agape is a giving kind of love, the kind of love that Jesus has for us. St. John tells us: “God is love (agape),” (1 John 4:8) so if we’re without love we’re without God and vice versa. Without being connected with God, we’re not connected to the head or to the rest of the body.

    Our Mass helps us to abide in his love. We listen to his words, we recall his sacrifice on the cross for us, and we are united with him, the source of all love (agape), in Communion. We ask his help though our prayers and we give thanks for his love for us. Don’t forget ευχαριστία(eucharistia) is the Greek word for giving thanks and that’s what we are doing now.

Before the Tabernacle

Joyful Mysteries

The Annunciation

1. R. The angel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary and asks Mary to be the Mother of God.

2. R. Prayer is a dialogue with God whereby we experience the love that He gives to us and we exchange our love given to Him. It is an interaction between us and God. In baptism we are given a sharing in is Divine Life and if we remain in the state of grace, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit dwell within our hearts in a very special way. Let us at this moment focus on the presence of God within our graced baptized soul. Think of the indwelling of the Almighty God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit in us. God gives us this sharing in His life in baptism because of His great love for us.

3. Hail Mary

4. R. The Almighty God so loved this world that He sent His only begotten Son incarnate in the womb of a human person, the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Son of God was conceived in the womb of a human person, through the power of the Holy Spirit. This is the love that God has for man. Out of His great goodness and love God created us. Adam and Eve sinned. Jesus is the Savior of the world. Meditate on the Almighty God and His power. Meditate on Jesus who took flesh for us.

5. Hail Mary

6. R. Mary is the Mother of God. Let us focus on the fact that Mary was chosen from all women, a human person, to carry the Son of God within her body. We realize more and more the immensity and the love that God has for His creatures.

John 3: 16

For this is how God loved the world:
he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him
    may not perish
but may have eternal life.

7. R. We cannot even fathom the immensity of this love that God has for us. We must pray for the grace to know and love God more and more.

8. Hail Mary
9. Hail Mary

l0. R. The Almighty God is present in this room with us. Jesus is truly present in the tabernacle at this moment, no less present than He was in the womb of the Virgin Mary, as she carried Him. Jesus is as present this day as the day He walked this earth and hung on the cross and He cries out to us from His Most Sacred Heart, how tenderly He loves and wants to be close to us. Jesus wants us to talk to Him, I listen to Him, I am one with Him. We want knowledge of Jesus and we want to know the will of God. Jesus is truly present in this room in the Eucharist. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, You are present and with us this day. Let our hearts burn within us to realize that we are given this great gift and help us to unite in these moments that we share with Him more and more the love of His Divine Heart. The wind may blow and the sun may cease to shine, the earth may cave in around us and in our heart we will know how close God is to us. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit dwell in our graced baptized soul. Jesus is longing and waiting for our love. Jesus wants us to unselfishly tell Him, “I love you, I love you, Jesus.” We are to know, love and serve God with our whole heart and soul. Jesus is worthy of that love.

The Visitation

l. Luke 1: 39-41

Mary set out at that time and went as quickly as she could into the hill country to a town in Judah. She went into Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. Now it happened that as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

2. R. When she arrived, the child in Elizabeth’s womb leapt for joy at the presence of the Almighty God in Mary.

3. R. We should want a deep love relationship between us and God. I give my love to Him and I know He loves me. In the Rosary we meditate on the the lives of Jesus and Mary and we know more His love for us and we grow more deeply in our love for Him.

4. R. We ask for a special outpouring of His grace.

5. Luke 1: 46-47

    And Mary said:

My soul proclaims
    the greatness of the Lord
and my spirit rejoices
    in God my Saviour;

6. Luke 1: 48-49

because he has looked upon
    the humiliation of his servant.
Yes, from now onwards
    all generations will call me blessed,
for the Almighty
    has done great things for me.
Holy is his name,

7. Luke 1: 50-51

and his faithful love extends age after age
    to those who fear him.
He has used the power of his arm,
he has routed the arrogant of heart.

8. Luke 1: 52

He has pulled down princes
    from their thrones
        and raised high the lowly.

9. Luke 1: 53-54

He has filled the starving with good things,
    sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the help
    of Israel his servant,
        mindful of his faithful love

l0. Luke 1: 55

—according to the promise
    he made to our ancestors—
of his mercy to Abraham
    and to his descendants for ever.

The Birth of Our Lord Jesus

l. R. The angel sang and the star shone above the place where the Child Jesus lay. The Son of God is laid in a manger. Jesus takes on human flesh. Jesus is not adorned in gold and silver, Jesus is wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger, in such poverty, while the sheep and the cows surround Him. Joseph and Mary gaze on the beauty of this child - Jesus is the Savior of the world. Let us meditate as if we were there in the stable with Jesus and Mary. Be there and hear the cows, feel the chill of the night, smell the hay as we gaze upon the infant lying in the manger - the sweet, little, baby child. But you know that this is God. Jesus is a Divine Person. The babe sleeps. Jesus is God. In such awe, we could kneel by the manger and think God is here. We could see the star over His bed. With awe we would gaze on Jesus. Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. That same child, that was born because of His love for all men remains with us this day. Jesus is neglected and forgotten by many He loved so much. Jesus is waiting and thirsting and waiting for our hearts to burn with love for Him.

    Jesus is a Divine Person. We are human persons. Jesus wants to be so one with us. There is nothing that can compare on the face of this earth, to union with Jesus. At each Eucharist He gives Himself to us. We pray for grace to be outpoured. This is what our souls crave. He is waiting for us to come and be with Him. The little baby, born in a manger - what His birth did for this world!

2. R. And how ungrateful men are this day that He is ignored and forgotten by many. How offended the Almighty God is by many creatures below. We look at the sun and see its magnificence, its blinding effects. We cannot even look at the sun. God is so much more powerful than the sun. God loves us tenderly and waits for us.

3. R. Look at the world and the vastness of the world created by the Almighty God that He gives us this sharing in His life in baptism. God creates a human child with all the little parts, the intricacies in the human ear, and the eye, how it operates and functions. God, the Almighty God, the Creator, and in our brassiness look how we are filled with pride. We think that we are in control. We offend God by our indifference and neglect. Jesus says we need to make reparation to God for our sins and the sins of all men. God gives to us this gift - sharing in His Divine Life in baptism, how can we not want to make reparation for our sins that we commit and the sins of all men?

4. R. Jesus gave His all. Jesus was born in such poverty and Jesus died on a cross. Jesus was born on bare wood, Jesus died on bare wood. Jesus spread His arms and Jesus gave the last drop of His blood to show us how we are loved by Him, and yet we look and we look for love and we feel so empty in our hearts when Jesus loves us so much and wants to fill us with His grace. Let us focus on the presence of God truly present in the Holy Eucharist. Let's try with all our hearts to feel His presence in this room with us. Feel the presence of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit within our hearts. Dwell on the presence of the Almighty God with our graced baptized soul.

Song: I Come to You with greatest love

R. And His way is the way of love. He came to share His love with us. He came to teach us how to love. He came to this world. Jesus took on flesh. Let us focus on this gift where the secret of peace and joy lie: to know the presence of God in every moment in our graced baptized soul. To be deeply united to God, to identify with Him, to not wander aimlessly about and think that we are operating by ourselves. To strive in our every breath to be in union with God. Why would we want anything else when He gives to us this plea to unite with Him, the Almighty God, and yet we wander aimlessly all day and think we are operating on our own and His might is there for the asking.

Song: See the Eyes that look at Mary

5. R. Jesus is the Savior of the world - this is for the Almighty God, come to this earth, a Divine Person, and Jesus took on a baby body for love of us. This is the love that Jesus has for us.

6. R. Are not our hearts burning within us. Pray to realize more His presence in us. As you crawl into your bed at night, go into your heart and realize that the Almighty God is there and waiting and longing to be so close to you. Just be present with Him. God loves us so much. He wants this union with us. God dwells in our graced baptized soul - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Just focus on God dwelling in our graced baptized soul. Feel peace and comfort and know He has all the power and all the might. Be one with Him. Put aside fear - trust in Him, our beloved God who loves us so much.

 7. R. Jesus comes to us in a special union in the Holy Eucharist Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, in the deepest union, the Son of God gives Himself to us and it is as if we are grabbing on to a hot wire, for we unite to God in this oneness. A Divine Person unites to us, we are elevated to such heights in this union.

8. R. Jesus came a little baby in the town of Bethlehem, laying in a manger. Oh Jesus You are meek and gentle of Heart. God loves us so much.

9. R. How many times we feel alone, we do not feel loved and if we were surrounded by many, many people, professing their love to us, how secure we might feel, but all the people in the world, with their arms surrounding us, cannot even compare minutely to the immensity of the love of God that is given so freely, so sweetly, and so tenderly - and we take it so lightly. Give us the grace to see how we are blind. We need you, Oh Holy Spirit to remove these blinders from our eyes. Fill our hearts with the fire of God’s love. Envision the child lying in the manger and see the glow of the star above and the glow around Jesus' head. God comes and dwells in us - let's focus on our holiness. Although the earth be shaken and the sun cease to shine, remember God's love. Jesus came into this world and took on a little baby body. Jesus came to this earth. Let us seek to unite with Him in our actions and know the security of this union! Jesus is alive and He is with us.

l0. Jesus: I love you, I love you, I love you. How tenderly I love you and call out to you. How I long to unite in deepest union with you, to hear you as you speak those words to Me all through the day. Do not worry, do not fear, open your hearts and profess your love to Me. Put aside all of your doubt and your worries and come to Me and tell Me of your love. Do you not know that I am the Almighty God, that I am all powerful and I will care for you in all your needs. Do not worry. Discipline your thoughts and your wills for the days ahead will be hard and dark. It is in disciplining your thoughts and your wills that you will remain in peace in deepest love with Me, My beloved ones. How dearly I love you! Do you hear the words spoken to you? Feel the security of My love within your heart. Surrender to Me and I will bathe you in My precious love.

Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple

l. Hail Mary

2. Jesus: Come to Me and let go to Me, let go of anxieties. Come and be alone, meditate deeply on My life and My presence with you.  It is there you will find peace and joy. It is there you will find comfort.

3. Jesus: You go out to the busy world. You must come to the interior of your hearts, empty yourself of anger, jealousies, unforgiveness, pride, that I can fill you with My love and fill you with My grace. It is there that you put the pieces of your life together with giving yourself to God, moments alone with God. You are comforted and feel at peace. Come, My dear ones, into the interior of My Heart and I will care for you.

 4. R. We see as we meditate on the rosary, all through the rosary, the Father’s plan unfolds. The Father’s plan for Mary to be the Mother of God - and how Jesus and Mary complied to this plan. We see the Father’s presence all through Their lives, They knew His love and They complied to His Will. We see the workings of the Holy Spirit in the prophet Simeon as he was led to the temple, when Joseph and Mary arrived. Focus on the presence of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Jesus leads us in the Holy Spirit to the Father. There are 3 Persons in One God! It is in realizing the love of each person that our hearts are filled with such dynamite love for God. Tell the Holy Spirit of our immense love. Outpour your love to God! Let our hearts burn for love of Jesus. God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit love us! Let us focus as we meditate on these mysteries, on the presence of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Let us feel the presence of the Triune God.

5. R. Simeon, the Prophet, told Mary that a sword too would pierce her heart. Mary is the Mediatrix of all grace. The heart of Mary was invisibly pierced by a sword and the light that flows from the Father, in the Holy Spirit, through the pierced Heart of Jesus, flows through Mary’s heart to us. Simeon told Mary that a sword too shall pierced her heart. Let us go to Mary, the Mediatrix of all grace, our loving Mother and ask her to lead us closer and closer to the Heart of Jesus.

6. R. As we dwell in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary, we are bathed in this Divine Life.

7. R. It is in being saturated more and more in His Divine Life that we partake more fully in the Divine Mysteries, that every word in the Scriptures and every word in the Mass becomes so vibrant to us. Dear Jesus, we beg You as we sit here before You in the Holy Eucharist in the tabernacle, that You outpour Your grace to us and that we may be full more and more of Your grace.

8. R. We thank You for all the great gifts that You have given to us to lead us to this place, in our life, for giving us this grace this evening.

9. Hail Mary

l0. Hail Mary

Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple

l. Jesus: In one moment My beloved ones, you can be snatched from your place. I am the Almighty God. Your every breath and heartbeat depends on Me. I am with you in a special way for you have been called this evening to be here in this room and to unite deeper and deeper in My love. I am calling out to you to identify more and more with Me, to feel My presence within your hearts at every moment. It is in realizing My presence with you that you will have a constant peace and joy in your heart. You must meditate on My presence within you. You must go into the interior of My Heart and dwell there and feel the peace and security.

2. R. I see Mary. I hear her call out. I feel the suffering that she allows me to experience for the little lost children of this world that will be condemned to hell. We take this so lightly, but I know so well what Our Heavenly Mother is telling me. This is the message given to me. My heart is in deep grief from all that I have experienced and I beg you from my heart to hear the words of Our Heavenly Mother that so many children in this world today will suffer the loss of their souls, that so many souls in this world will go to hell despite the sufferings of Our Beloved Jesus on the cross. I am begging you to unite with me to make our every effort in our life - an effort to help draw souls closer to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary. To think in our every action that souls will be lost and to take up our cross. Mary has told me about our need to pray for her children over and over again. I am a messenger, this message is for you from our Heavenly Mother. Engraved in my heart is sufferings for what she is saying. It is an urgent cry from her. It is something so serious that our Heavenly Mother appeared and cried out over and over and over again. Let us help in the work of salvation for the souls that will be lost, to help in all of our efforts to lead souls to the Heart of Jesus.

3. Song: Amazing Grace

4. Mary: I am Mary, your Mother. My messages are coming to an end. Hear me, my dear, sweet children. The messages that are given have been ignored. I call and no one listens to my pleading. I am calling you, my faithful ones, to open wide your hearts and to know that the days are at hand, the time is set, the place is here. I am Mary, your Mother. I cannot hold back the hand of my Son any longer. I beg you from my Motherly heart to pray as you have never prayed before, for so many of my little children will be lost, condemned to the fires of hell. Do you hear the words I speak here? I ask you to help to circulate these rosaries from the Hearts of Jesus and Mary. In these rosaries we are giving great graces to those praying the rosary, to draw them ever closer in their love relationship with Us. I am Mary, your Mother. It is through the rosary that many will know the burning love of Our Hearts. I beg you to answer this urgent plea. Many souls will be condemned to the fires of hell. I call out to the souls of my children, especially the little children of the world, the children that are poisoned this day in this world. You are my soldiers, my soldiers of light, that will shed the light in the darkness. As my messages end I ask you to read more and more and more my past messages and to distribute them to all souls. We are giving great graces to all souls praying the rosary from the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

5. Hail Mary

6. Hail Mary

7. R. Mary’s heart was in such turmoil for she knew of the sufferings to come. From the prophecy of Simeon, from that time on, there was a constant ache in her heart. She did not forget for one moment the words of Simeon, she carried them and pondered them deeply in her heart as she carries in her heart the love of her little children and she calls to us and asks us help to lead the little children of this world to the Heart of her Son.

8. Mary: You will receive abundant graces when you pray the rosary as I have given to you here.

9. Mary: Our lives will become more alive in you and this force is too mighty to be contained.

l0. R. The light of the Almighty God shone from the hearts of those that were united in deepest union with Him. It shone in the darkness. It is the light that shined over the crib of the Child Jesus - so magnificent and beautiful, so, too, the light of the Almighty God that shines from the eyes and face of those that are rooted in Him.

Guiding Light - Reflect on the Word
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle B of the Liturgical Year
$ 15.00 plus postage

Guiding Light homily series - Reflect on the Word - Cycle B —  The Word leaves an impression on our souls. In my thoughts and reflections are born a more tangible understanding of these eternal concepts presented in the Gospels and the readings. Anyone can read a sentence, but not anyone can absorb it's true meaning. Truth, in this day and age, is almost a matter of opinion or individual entitlement. We believe that Christ's truth is our Roman Catholic Church. We, as priests, champion it's teachings; we are ambassadors for the Pope and Christ to those faces looking at us. We are the light by which our congregation reads to reflect upon real truth and we do it hand in hand. $15

Guiding Light - Steadfast to the Son
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle A of the Liturgical Year
$ 15.00 plus postage

Guiding Light homily series - Steadfast to the Son - Cycle A — The sunflower is a great example of how we should be steadfastly guided by light. What a powerful thought that this exceptional plant is not stuck in one pose day in and day out, yet adaptable and magnetized to the sun. We feel the same about our Son. Our heads turns to face Christ as each day presents its challenges to find light. We join together like plants in a field and soak up the Son through the pulpit. We are a warm circle of strength using the wind of our breath to carry our priests' words, Christ's words, to new rich soil. $15

Guiding Light - Feed My Soul
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle C of the Liturgical Year
$ 10.00 plus postage

Guiding Light - Feed My Soul
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle C of the Liturgical Year
$ 15.00 plus postage

Guiding Light - Feed My Soul - Cycle C — In a world rapidly advancing and encouraging personal gain, we are faced with modern problems. There is a challenge to find time in our busy schedules for Sunday Mass or a family meal. We are able to research, shop, bank and even work without hearing one human voice. It is no wonder that we may often feel disconnected and famished at our week's end. In Fr. Joe's third book of homilies from Cycle C, we are reminded of the charity that Christ intended us to show each other. We have a calling to turn the other cheek and be the Good Samaritan to others. We are rewarded with the Father's kingdom and love when we are not worthy. We are not left alone or hungry. $15

Guiding Light - Focusing on the Word
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle B of the Liturgical Year
$ 15.00 plus postage

Guiding Light - Focusing on the Word - Cycle B — At times we may feel that our path to Christ is a bit "out of focus". Like the disciples in the Book of Mark, this ordinary life clouds our vision of Christ's Divinity. We may doubt the practicality or possibility of applying His teachings and example to our modern life. Cycle B's homilies are a "guiding light" to help us realize Jesus' Messianic greatness and His promise of better things to come. $15

Guiding Light - The Word Alive in Our Hearts

Priestly Newsletter 2000 Issue 1
Audio CD - Read by Father Edward J. Carter
$ 10.00  plus postage

Priestly Newsletter - 2000 #1 - CD. - Christ is Our Strength - Fr. Edward Carter, S.J. read it the year he died. It is so beautiful. "This brief passage contains one of the greatest lessons of the spiritual life. As we progress along our spiritual journey, we become increasingly aware of how weak we are in our-selves, but how strong we are in Christ. To experience our weakness involves suffering. The degree and kind of suffering can vary. The suffering can include the experience of the classical dark night of the spirit as described by St. John of the Cross. One of the main purposes of the dark night is to make a person keenly aware of his or her helplessness without God." quote by Fr. Carter from the newsletter $10

Priestly Newsletter - 2000 #2 - CD. - Suffering: A Source of Life - Fr. Edward Carter, S.J. read it the year he died. Fr. Carter knew suffering that year. His voice is so powerful as he read each Newsletter from his heart and soul. "Every man has his own share in the redemption. Each one is also called to share in that suffering through which the redemption was accomplished. He is called to share in that suffering through which all human suffering has also been redeemed. In bringing about the redemption through suffering, Christ has also raised human suffering to the level of the redemption. Thus each man in his suffering can also become a sharer in the redemptive suffering of Christ..." quote by Fr. Carter from the newsletter $10
