Daniel 2: 31-45

'You have had a vision, Your Majesty; this is what you saw: a statue, a great statue of extreme brightness, stood before you, terrible to see. The head of this statue was of fine gold, its chest and arms were of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze,  its legs of iron, its feet part iron, part clay. While you were gazing, a stone broke away, untouched by any hand, and struck the statue, struck its feet of iron and clay and shattered them. Then, iron and clay, bronze, silver and gold, all broke into pieces as fine as chaff on the threshing-floor in summer. The wind blew them away, leaving not a trace behind. And the stone that had struck the statue grew into a great mountain, filling the whole world. This was the dream; we shall now explain to the king what it means.

'You, Your Majesty, king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given sovereignty, power, strength and honour human beings, wild animals, birds of the air, wherever they live, he has entrusted to your rule, making you king of them all you are the golden head. And, after you, another kingdom will rise, not as great as yours, and then a third, of bronze, which will rule the whole world. There will be a fourth kingdom, hard as iron, as iron that pulverises and crushes all. Like iron that breaks everything to pieces, it will crush and break all the earlier kingdoms. The feet you saw, part earthenware, part iron, are a kingdom which will be split in two, but which will retain something of the strength of iron, just as you saw the iron and the clay of the earthenware mixed together. The feet were part iron, part potter's clay: the kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle. And just as you saw the iron and the clay of the earthenware mixed together, so the two will be mixed together in human seed; but they will not hold together any more than iron will blend with clay. In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, and this kingdom will not pass into the hands of another race: it will shatter and absorb all the previous kingdoms and itself last for ever just as you saw a stone, untouched by hand, break away from the mountain and reduce iron, bronze, earthenware, silver and gold to powder. The Great God has shown the king what is to take place. The dream is true, the interpretation exact.'

Daniel 3: 57-61

Bless the Lord, all the Lord's creation:
praise and glorify him for ever!
Bless the Lord, angels of the Lord,
praise and glorify him for ever!
Bless the Lord, heavens,
praise and glorify him for ever!
Bless the Lord, all the waters
    above the heavens
praise and glorify him for ever!
Bless the Lord, powers of the Lord,
praise and glorify him for ever!

Luke 21: 5-11

When some were talking about the Temple, remarking how it was adorned with fine stonework and votive offerings, he said, ‘All these things you are staring at now—the time will come when not a single stone will be left on another; everything will be destroyed.’ And they put to him this question, ‘Master,’ they said, ‘when will this happen, then, and what sign will there be that it is about to take place?’

But he said, ‘Take care not to be deceived, because many will come using my name and saying, "I am the one" and "The time is near at hand." Refuse to join them. And when you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be terrified, for this is something that must happen first, but the end will not come at once.’ Then he said to them, ‘Nation will fight against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes and plagues and famines in various places; there will be terrifying events and great signs from heaven.

The King had a dream and
Daniel was called in to interpret
                    4 kingdoms will be destroyed
                    God's people will triumph

God's people must trust in Him
It is the end of the liturgical year
We had the poor widow in the Gospel yesterday
she trusted in God — God will protect her —

                This world will pass away
                The temple will be destroyed
But God's Kingdom will last forever

In every age there is sickness, storms,
                    earthquakes —

People want to know when is the end —

We are to keep preparing ourselves — always —
We are prepared if we are trying to do
                    God's will

Be ready — We must trust in God —

                We have to suffer —

Day after day patiently accept the every day
suffering and stay rooted in him

When I lost my voice January, 1992 —
                    I was falling asleep —
My pen went down the paper
                    Jesus said —
There would not be left a stone
                            on a stone —

Jesus called the Shepherds to bring peace and
                    holiness to the world —

Jesus' Movement is a Movement of the
Father — He has told us —
To bring the Reign of His Sacred Heart to this earth
and triumph of Mary's Immaculate Heart -

January, 2010 it will be 18 years since I
got this message about a stone being left on a stone

                I watch our suffering
I watch the law support things against
                    God's will

                I cry —
but I believe and trust in God

God gave Fr. Carter this message

Words of Jesus to Members of
Shepherds of Christ Associates:

"My beloved priest-companion, I intend to use the priestly newsletter, Shepherds of Christ, and the movement, Shepherds of Christ Associates, in a powerful way for the renewal of My Church and the world.

"I will use the newsletter and the chapters of Shepherds of Christ Associates as a powerful instrument for spreading devotion to My Heart and My Mother's Heart.

"I am calling many to become members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. To all of them I will give great blessings. I will use them as instruments to help bring about the triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the reign of My Sacred Heart. I will give great graces to the members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. I will call them to be deeply united to My Heart and to Mary's Heart as I lead them ever closer to My Father in the Holy Spirit."

- Message from Jesus to Father Edward J. Carter, S.J., Founder, as given on July 31, 1994,
feast of Saint Ignatius Loyola, Founder of the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits)

                Jesus gives us the Church
                Jesus gives us the priest
                Jesus gives us the Mass

Song: A Priest is a Gift from God

                Fr. Carter Believed

Jesus gives us Himself in the Mass
Jesus' Kingdom will never end —

                Father — we love You
we unite the offering of ourselves
                        with Jesus in the Mass
we offer this, God the Father in the Holy Spirit,
with all the angels and saints and souls in purgatory
through the intercessions of Mary, Our Mother —

                Father help us
                We beg You

The Our Father

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Lamb of God

Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

We do all things for the honor and glory of God —
We give Him what He wants
I write these writings, from Jesus to you —
I do it for Jesus, from Jesus
He loves us so much —
He gives us Himself in the Eucharist

Oh my God — words do not exist to be able
to express how it is when You come
                    to me

                I am so unworthy —
Yet I know You so deeply in these intimate
moments with You, now in the
                    Eucharist —

                You fill me
                You love me

May I be so one with You — Now and Forever

Oh God my heart burns —
Oh God my fear is quenched
Oh God I love Thee with a contrite heart
Oh God, You are my King
Oh God, You are my all —

My heart burns because I love You
so and am so unworthy to receive
                    Thee, now

                Holy Spirit — fill me
                                — prepare me to be ready when
                                    God calls
                                — prepare me — so I can do
                                    Thy holy work —

Oh God — Stay with me in this presence

Song: Your Presence Pervades My Soul

                Song: I Love You Jesus

                Come Lord Jesus

                Come to me —

I want this presence with Thee

                Song: A Song from Jesus

                Come, oh Come, Messiah
Come to me and fill me —

Wash me of my sins —
Hear my plaintiff cry for help —

Oh God, I thank Thee —
Oh God, I want to make reparation for
                    the offenses against You —

                Sing a song of joy
                Sing a song of love

Let not your heart be turned to stone —
Walk not with the hard heart —
                    Tending to details —

Forgetting how God calls us to work in
love together to do His work —
                    It is His will —
No man is an island —
                    Working in a closet —
                    Locked door in isolation and
Demanding others come on our schedule —

                God painted the stars
                God hung the lights
God prepared the place for His honor and glory —

He fashioned all the scenery —
He filled it with life —
He made the baby in the womb —
He gave us a little clock to grow and
                    develop

Then the merciless man comes —
move ahead he says like the street
                        cleaner or bulldozer —
Does the bulldozer knock down the
                        tiny flowers God created —

Is he ready to destroy that which is
growing and prospering so he can
                    do it his way —

Years and years they worked to build a city —
the autumn leaves adorned the trees —
flowers grew around little bushes —
babies were pushed in strollers in a park —

Move ahead the man said —
                    I have an idea —
Destroy what you have — I'm moving on —
                                                            progress you know —

In the wind, I heard the fluttering of the
                    Holy Spirit —
In my heart I knew His breath —
                    I listened and I learned —
Not like a battle-ax who came in
like a herd of elephants —
But a little poodle dog with little
                        puffs on its legs —
docile — ready to follow the
                        direction of the King —

Jesus came not a high and mighty King —
He came a baby King — approachable —
                    gentle, sweet - cooing —
                    to deliver the message —
                    A Savior has come

He didn't come knocking down the trees
                    and shaking the earth —

                Like in the Eucharist —
I ascend the communion rail and
He the Divine God comes to me —
                    I am humbled
                    I am His
                    I am kneeling
                    I am prostrate
                    I tip-toe in His presence

Those who see not come like a bull in a
                    China shop —

Let the sweetness of the Christ child fill our
hearts with love on Christmas —

I saw a man with a ladder for he always
                    sought the high places —
He moved his ladder to the tallest tree and
the red apples peeked out in brilliance
among a layer of green leaves —

Brazen as if he owned the tree —
he walked right up to the tree and
began putting up his ladder to acquire
                        the highest fruit —

Once he mounted it — he climbed high and
                    taking the most succulent apple
he said "For me, I eat for me"

But he did not know that a worm, too, had
made his way — not with a ladder
but had eaten away destroying the
palatable flesh of the interior of
                    his fruit —

He chose a high place to be high —
angels fear to treed until they know the
path is the path of God

At once he bit down and he tasted the
wiggly worm — the higher he was
the further he fell from the ladder for
he intended not to feast on a wiggly worm
                    at all —

How high is your ladder —
does it reach the heights for your own
                    self glory —

Do you fly on eagles wings and take in
the scenery of God the Father and
                    his plan

Or do you see like one —
                    seeing only themselves
wanting what they want, when they want it —

Is your goal motivated by jealousy and manipulation
                    for your selfish ways or

Do you follow the Master —
reaching for the plan of the Father

Or who reaches high to please himself
                    falls harder from their place
                    of empty glory

There is but one King and we need not a ladder
to reach Him — we need a gentle heart —

Look at the baby Jesus —

No room in our heart for Jesus on Christmas
                    morn —

Or is our heart full of stuff —
is the heart being choked by unhealed wounds,
                        unforgiveness

Does the baby Jesus hear us say when He
comes to our heart on Christmas
"no room in the Inn, sorry,
                    I am full of myself"

Reach for the high fruit with the
                    hand of God --

Let God pick the fruit, the tree
and take the one He wants us
                    to have

                Don't be greedy, possessive, jealous,
                    unloving to our brothers and
if we are, the farther we fall from
letting Him lead the way —

Now fruit is special because God made it
But what of the gift - God brings —
                    Jesus gives us not apples,
                    but He gives us Himself
He gives us His Body and Blood —

We reach for what we want and
very often bite into worms —
                    the apple looks good —
it was red and shiny, but
when we bit into it —
                    yuk — WORMS —

                God feeds us right
                God gives us His Word
                Jesus gives us the Eucharist
                God feeds our soul and

When He feeds our body — we can follow
His Plan and eat the fruit He has
                    planned for us

But the brassy guy with the big ladder —
                    sees himself —

Surrounded by the sky and sun and moon
and stars — he can operate in his
vacuum filled up with self —
                    Wounds that bleed —
Wounds he keeps in division and
                        rupturing his relationship with
                        God and others

Because he won't let go of his
emotional wounds of the past —
                        but keeps them like trophies

                Jesus gives us His Heart

Do we reach in love — with the hand of
                    God —

                Reach for what God wants
                        love
                        unity
                        team players
                        interaction

Once upon a time a dog had a house and
a dish for water and food was
                    outside —

Sometimes bigger dogs would come and
steal his water and food —

What was the little dog to do —
the big dog was a dog —
                    a ferocious animal and
                    frankly a bully —

God doesn't want selfish bullies —
God is teaching us to love —

Jesus came to teach us —
Jesus was born among beasts since there
was not room in the Inn —
Jesus is the Lamb of God
Jesus the Divine Almighty God - came to
the earth — born of a human creature
                    conceived without sin
Jesus didn't come on a ladder
Jesus was hung on a tree for our sins —
Jesus carried the tree laden with our
                    sins on His back —

                He could hardly walk
                He fell under the cross

                They spit at Jesus
                They crowned Him with thorns
They thought only of themselves —
They whipped the Son of God

Jesus came to show us we are part of a
team — we are to love and give and follow
                    Him —

                Adam was greedy
                Adam and Eve prideful
                Adam and Eve disobedient

Genesis Chapter 3

 The Fall

Now, the snake was the most subtle of all the wild animals that Yahweh God had made. It asked the woman, ‘Did God really say you were not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?’ The woman answered the snake, ‘We may eat the fruit of the trees in the garden. But of the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden God said, "You must not eat it, nor touch it, under pain of death." ’ Then the snake said to the woman, ‘No! You will not die! God knows in fact that the day you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods, knowing good from evil.’ The woman saw that the tree was good to eat and pleasing to the eye, and that it was enticing for the wisdom that it could give. So she took some of its fruit and ate it. She also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they realised that they were naked. So they sewed fig–leaves together to make themselves loin–cloths.

The man and his wife heard the sound of Yahweh God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from Yahweh God among the trees of the garden. But Yahweh God called to the man. ‘Where are you?’ he asked. ‘I heard the sound of you in the garden,’ he replied. ‘I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.’ ‘Who told you that you were naked?’ he asked. ‘Have you been eating from the tree I forbade you to eat?’ The man replied, ‘It was the woman you put with me; she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.’ Then Yahweh God said to the woman, ‘Why did you do that?’ The woman replied, ‘The snake tempted me and I ate.’

Then Yahweh God said to the snake, ‘Because you have done this,

    Accursed be you of
    all animals wild and tame!
On your belly you will go
and on dust you will feed
    as long as you live.
    I shall put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring and hers;
    it will bruise your head
and you will strike its heel.’

     To the woman he said:

I shall give you intense pain
        in childbearing,
you will give birth to your children
        in pain.
Your yearning will be for your husband,
      and he will dominate you.

To the man he said, ‘Because you listened to the voice of your wife and ate from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat,

Accursed be the soil because of you!
Painfully will you get your food from it
     as long as you live.
It will yield you brambles and thistles,
as you eat the produce of the land.
By the sweat of your face
     will you earn your food,
until you return to the ground,
as you were taken from it.
     For dust you are
and to dust you shall return.’

The man named his wife ‘Eve’ because she was the mother of all those who live. Yahweh God made tunics of skins for the man and his wife and clothed them. Then Yahweh God said, ‘Now that the man has become like one of us in knowing good from evil, he must not be allowed to reach out his hand and pick from the tree of life too, and eat and live for ever!’ So Yahweh God expelled him from the garden of Eden, to till the soil from which he had been taken. He banished the man, and in front of the garden of Eden he posted the great winged creatures and the fiery flashing sword, to guard the way to the tree of life.

Genesis 1:26-27

God said, 'Let us make man in our own image, in the likeness of ourselves, and let them be masters of the fish of the sea, the birds of heaven, the cattle, all the wild animals and all the creatures that creep along the ground.'

God created man in the image of himself,
in the image of God he created him,
male and female he created them.

Jesus gives us His body and blood —
Jesus gives us the bread of life
The Blood is fruit of the vine —

                Why are we so selfish?
Jesus gives us the earth to use —
                    It's His
                    Jesus gives us our breath
                    Jesus gives us our bodies
                    Jesus gives us our water
                    Jesus gives us air

At the time of Noah —
                    Jesus kept the animals and
Noah's family and the flood destroyed
the rest of humanity that became
                        corrupted

                But God kept the animals
                But God gave us animals

God gives us baptism to share in
                    His Divine life

He elevates our knowing and loving
                    capacity

Luke 18: 1-8

Then he told them a parable about the need to pray continually and never lose heart. 'There was a judge in a certain town,' he said, 'who had neither fear of God nor respect for anyone. In the same town there was also a widow who kept on coming to him and saying, "I want justice from you against my enemy!" For a long time he refused, but at last he said to himself, "Even though I have neither fear of God nor respect for any human person, I must give this widow her just rights since she keeps pestering me, or she will come and slap me in the face." ' And the Lord said, 'You notice what the unjust judge has to say? Now, will not God see justice done to his elect if they keep calling to him day and night even though he still delays to help them? I promise you, he will see justice done to them, and done speedily. But when the Son of man comes, will he find any faith on earth?'

John 6: 48-58

I am the bread of life.
Your fathers ate manna in the desert
and they are dead;
but this is the bread
   which comes down from heaven,
so that a person may eat it and not die.
I am the living bread
which has come down from heaven.
Anyone who eats this bread
   will live for ever;
and the bread that I shall give
is my flesh, for the life of the world.'

Then the Jews started arguing among themselves, 'How can this man give us his flesh to eat?' Jesus replied to them:

In all truth I tell you,
if you do not eat
the flesh of the Son of man
and drink his blood,
you have no life in you.
Anyone who does eat my flesh
   and drink my blood
has eternal life,
and I shall raise that person up
   on the last day.
For my flesh is real food
and my blood is real drink.
Whoever eats my flesh
   and drinks my blood
lives in me
and I live in that person.
As the living Father sent me
and I draw life from the Father,
so whoever eats me
will also draw life from me.
This is the bread
   which has come down from heaven;
it is not like the bread our ancestors ate:
they are dead,
but anyone who eats this bread
   will live for ever.

Now look at the selfish man —
                    knowing all the details —
                    stone heart —
                    raging at his brother

Oh God — give us light to see —
see the beauty of your creation

Excerpt from Priestly Newsletter 1998 - ISSUE FOUR

Shortly before he was to die from cancer, Joseph Cardinal Bernardin left us these inspiring words about peace: "It is the first day of November, and fall is giving way to winter. Soon the trees will lose the vibrant colors of their leaves and snow will cover the ground. The earth will shut down, and people will race to and from their destinations bundled up for warmth. Chicago winters are harsh. It is a time of dying.

"But we know that spring will soon come with all its new life and wonder.

"It is quite clear that I will not be alive in the spring. But I will soon experience new life in a different way...

"What I would like to leave behind is a simple prayer that each of you may find what I have foundGod's special gift to us all: the gift of peace. When we are at peace, we find the freedom to be most fully who we are, even in the worst of times. We let go of what is non-essential and embrace what is essential. We empty ourselves so that God may more fully work within us. And we become instruments in the hands of the Lord."

                Our lives are short —

Will we have room for Jesus in our
                    hearts this Christmas or
Does our vision see only our schedule
                        and cry
                        Me   Me   Me

Jesus is the Light of the World

Philippians 4: 4-5

Always be joyful, then, in the Lord; I repeat, be joyful. Let your good sense be obvious to everybody. The Lord is near.

Genesis 3: 20

The man named his wife ‘Eve’ because she was the mother of all those who live.

Ephesians 1: 3-6, 11-12

Blessed be God
the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us
with all the spiritual blessings of heaven
        in Christ.
Thus he chose us in Christ
    before the world was made
to be holy and faultless
    before him in love,
marking us out for himself beforehand,
    to be adopted sons,
        through Jesus Christ.
Such was his purpose and good pleasure,
to the praise of the glory of his grace,
his free gift to us in the Beloved,

And it is in him
that we have received our heritage,
marked out beforehand as we were,
under the plan of the One
    who guides all things
as he decides by his own will,
chosen to be,
for the praise of his glory,
the people who
would put their hopes in Christ
        before he came.

Isaiah 63: 16-17

After all, you are our Father.
If Abraham will not own us,
if Israel will not acknowledge us,
you, Yahweh, are our Father,
‘Our Redeemer’ is your name from of old.
Why, Yahweh, do you let us wander
    from your ways
and let our hearts grow too hard
    to fear you?
Return, for the sake of your servants,
the tribes of your heritage.

Isaiah 64: 2-7

at the unexpected miracles you would do.
(Oh, that you would come down,
in your presence
    the mountains would quake!)
Never has anyone heard,
no ear has heard, no eye has seen
any god but you act like this
for the sake of those who trust him.
You come to meet those
who are happy to act uprightly;
keeping your ways reminds them of you.
Yes, you have been angry
    and we have been sinners;
now we persist in your ways
    and we shall be saved.
We have all been like unclean things
and our upright deeds like filthy rags.
We wither, all of us, like leaves,
and all our misdeeds
carry us off like the wind.
There is no one to invoke your name,
to rouse himself to hold fast to you,
for you have hidden your face from us
and given us up
to the power of our misdeeds.

And yet, Yahweh, you are our Father;
we the clay and you our potter,
all of us are the work of your hands.

John 1: 1-18

In the beginning was the Word:
the Word was with God
and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things came into being,
not one thing came into being
   except through him.
What has come into being in him was life,
life that was the light of men;
and light shines in darkness,
and darkness could not overpower it.

A man came, sent by God.
His name was John.
He came as a witness,
to bear witness to the light,
so that everyone might believe
   through him.
He was not the light,
he was to bear witness to the light.

The Word was the real light
that gives light to everyone;
he was coming into the world.
He was in the world
that had come into being through him,
and the world did not recognise him.
He came to his own
and his own people did not accept him.

But to those who did accept him
he gave power to become children of God,
to those who believed in his name
who were born not from human stock
or human desire
or human will
but from God himself.
The Word became flesh,
he lived among us,
and we saw his glory,
the glory that he has from the Father
as only Son of the Father,
full of grace and truth.

John witnesses to him. He proclaims:
‘This is the one of whom I said:
He who comes after me
has passed ahead of me
because he existed before me.’

Indeed, from his fullness
we have, all of us, received—
one gift replacing another,
for the Law was given through Moses,
grace and truth have come
   through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God;
it is the only Son,
who is close to the Father’s heart,
who has made him known.

Luke 2: 15-20

Now it happened that when the angels had gone from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us go to Bethlehem and see this event which the Lord has made known to us.’ So they hurried away and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. When they saw the child they repeated what they had been told about him, and everyone who heard it was astonished at what the shepherds said to them. As for Mary, she treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds went back glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as they had been told.

July 31, 1994
