Given July 3, 2009 - St. Thomas the Apostle

Ephesians 2: 19-22

So you are no longer aliens or foreign visitors; you are fellow–citizens with the holy people of God and part of God’s household. You are built upon the foundations of the apostles and prophets, and Christ Jesus himself is the cornerstone. Every structure knit together in him grows into a holy temple in the Lord; and you too, in him, are being built up into a dwelling–place of God in the Spirit.

John 20: 24-27

Thomas, called the Twin, who was one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, 'We have seen the Lord,' but he answered, 'Unless I can see the holes that the nails made in his hands and can put my finger into the holes they made, and unless I can put my hand into his side, I refuse to believe.' Eight days later the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. The doors were closed, but Jesus came in and stood among them. ‘Peace be with you,’ he said. Then he spoke to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here; look, here are my hands. Give me your hand; put it into my side. Do not be unbelieving any more but believe.’

                Thomas did not believe —

We are to have faith —
pray for those who do not believe
                    that they believe

                Thank our parents who taught
us about Jesus — if they
                    did

                Be grateful —

Dear God help us as a country —

Psalm 117: 1-2

Alleluia!

Praise Yahweh, all nations,
    extol him, all peoples,
for his faithful love is strong
    and his constancy never-ending.

Dear Holy Spirit fill us with the fire of
                    God's love

Open our hearts to the Gospel —
give us peace in our hearts —

God the Father help our families
God the Father help our nation
Open our hearts to love like Jesus.

Song: Teach Me to Love with Your Heart

God of love — help us
God of love — help our families
God of love — help our nation —

                Jesus worked with people —
                Jesus had companions
                Jesus shows us community —

God wants us to work together —
                    to be one body —

Christ is the head of the mystical body —

God gives us so many gifts and
                We are greedy —

                We want complete happiness or
                    what we think would satisfy
                    us —

We receive gifts and we want for
                    heaven and we suffer —

On earth why think we can have
everything — that is silly —
what we may think we want may not even
                        be holiness, but
                        rebellion to God's will —

We must want God's will —
not want what we want opposed to God's will and
act unloving or sinful to achieve it —

Proverbs 2: 1-9

My child, if you take my words to heart,
if you set store by my commandments,
tuning your ear to wisdom,
    tuning your heart to understanding,
yes, if your plea is for clear perception,
if you cry out for understanding,
if you look for it as though for silver,
search for it as though for buried treasure,
then you will understand what the fear of Yahweh is,
and discover the knowledge of God.
For Yahweh himself is giver of wisdom,
from his mouth issue knowledge and understanding.
He reserves his advice for the honest,
    a shield to those whose ways are sound;
he stands guard over the paths of equity,
he keeps watch over the way of those faithful to him.
Then you will understand uprightness, equity and fair dealing,
the paths that lead to happiness.

2 Timothy 2: 8-13

Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David'; it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. But God's message cannot be chained up. So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shall live with him. If we persevere, then we shall reign with him. If we disown him, then he will disown us. If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.

                In the Spiritual Exercises

                    (1) We follow Jesus
                    (2) We discern the spirits
                    (3) We acquire a sense of service

The exercises are rooted in gratitude.
The exercises are to bring us to deeper
                    holiness and union with God.

                Living the Gospel

Being united as members of the body of
                    Christ through baptism —
                    working as one —
                    working in holiness, according
                        to God's will — selflessness —
                    dying to self
living more and more in great
                        oneness with God —

                We are exercising —
                    spiritual exercises
                    discerning the spirits
                    resisting the impure tendencies —
as in any exercises there is physical
                        resistance —
                        with the spiritual exercises we
                        discern the spirits, discipline
                        our wills —
we do not act in desolation
                        We bend our stubborn heart
                            and will —
                        We resist temptation —
We are not rebellious to God's
                            will —
We are not prideful — seeking
                            high places for glory —
                            looking condescending on others —
We are humble like Mary —
We encounter tension and resistance as
we profit from these exercises of
                                the spirit

All our desires do not lead to God —
Not every pious thought is from the Holy Spirit.

We do not give into earthly attractions
                        against God's will —

We discern and pray to know the Holy Spirit
guiding us in doing God's will and
we live in God's will —

                    We know ourselves —
                        movements in ourselves
movements of our heart and soul from the Holy Spirit —
recognizing the temptations of the evil one
to try to get us from doing God's
                            will —

We choose to obey God's will — God's will for us —
                We seek it —
                We love it —

We see ourselves as part of a grand
design of our Heavenly Father —
we want this design to unfold —
We are not selfish, but one with
                    God and His plan —

Oh sweet mystery of life, at last
I've found thee — only to know
it is ever unfolding in our
                    oneness with God —

We live the life of death/resurrection.
                We live the Gospel
We are a disciple of Jesus —
                We love Jesus ardently —

We follow Jesus in deep oneness —
Our love for Jesus bids us to grow
in great humility and self-knowledge —

We love spiritual direction that leads
us to live in oneness with
God — His Plan for us — His will
                    for us —
our place in the grand design of
                        our Heavenly Father —

We live according to the Gospel —
we live in our times and the
                        heavenly Father who put us
here now — wants us to with
the guidance of the Holy Spirit
                        live as God wills —

                    Ignatius was obedient
                    Ignatius recognized that he must
                        discern the spirits —
                    Ignatius followed Jesus —
Ignatius was holy — not rebellious —

The Gospel is the story of Jesus —
The Gospel tells us about sin and
                        grace —
The Gospel tells us about Jesus
The Gospel tells us how he died and
The Gospel tells us about the
                        resurrection —
We live the life, death and resurrection
                        of Jesus' life —

                Ignatius loved God
Ignatius had zeal to spread the Gospel —
                Ignatius lived the Gospel —

We are the sons of God —
God gives us this sharing in
                        His life in baptism —

Our aim is to help souls —
                    not for selfish glory —
We are Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus —
                    We walk like the disciples
on the way to Emmaus —

We are taught by Jesus —
We carry on with the work of
                        Jesus, doing the Father's will
living by the counsel of the Holy Spirit —

We should long to know Jesus — to be
one with Him, to live the Gospel —

We don't win eternal life by our
                    intellectual 'smarts', on intellectual
                    accomplishments alone —

We need to live the Gospel —
this meditations on the rosary —
                    spiritual exercises —

The Gospel seeps into us — we live
                    according to the Gospel —
                    following Jesus —

We live according to the Camp of
Jesus — we let go of
                    inordinate attachments —

We live to praise, reverence and
                    serve our God —

From The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius
    by Louis J. Puhl, S.J.
 p.11

21.                     SPIRITUAL EXERCISES

Which have as their purpose the conquest of self
and the regulation of one's life in such a way that
no decision is made under the influence of any
    inordinate attachment

Prayer from St. Ignatius

Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labor and not to ask for any reward,
Save that of knowing
that I am doing your will.

        Prayer of St Ignatius

Soul of Christ, sanctify me
Body of Christ, save me
Blood of Christ, inebriate me
Water from the side of Christ wash me
Passion of Christ, strengthen me
O good Jesus, hear me
Within Thy wounds hide me
Permit me not to be separated from Thee
From the wicked foe defend me
at the hour of my death call me
and bid me come to Thee
That with Thy saints I may praise Thee
For ever and ever. Amen.

                Sing: Take Lord Receive

Examination of conscience is paramount —
                    taking responsibility for sin —
                    Making reparation —
Contrition for sin — with the strong
                        desire to sin no more

                    Have we improved?
Are we doing what God wants?

Do we just do it our way —
                    do what we want and
                    say "Sorry" — take no
                    responsibility for sin and
                    get worse

                Thoughts come from
                    (1) man himself (inside person)
                    (2) the Holy Spirit (outside person)
                    (3) the evil spirit (outside person)

Thoughts of sinning, of doing evil,
of doing one's own will rebelling
                    against God's will can be
rejected — We have a free will.

When we reject and reject evil — we
have a great spiritual victory —
                    it happens by continually
                    resisting temptation for a
                    certain sin
                    ie  sins of pride
                    sins of jealousy, possessiveness,
                        envy etc. —

We can choose to engage the thought
then later reject it — this is not
                    as bad a sin

We give consent to sin —
                When we premeditate some
                    evil, planning, secret
                    scams these are more
                    serious —

The more people we effect has something
to do with it also —
the intensity of the sin — prolonged
                        provoking to get another
upset — not letting up until
                        one wins to test another
                        unmercifully with a deed
needed to do God's will, God's
                        work —

We will be judged on the vastness
of the injury — the people
                    involved, the secret scam —
                    the intensity to engage in
                    a well planned sin —
                    motive — premeditate to
                    cause discord, hatred, bitterness —
                    blocking work to help souls

God listens — when we promise a confessor,
one over us, that we intend to sin
no more, but make no effort to sin
no more, just to get ourselves
pardon to do the injustice again
this is malice and deep injury —
                    IN and OUT Behavior
                    ABUSE

We are to be truthful at all times —
Lying to be hateful, to cause discord,
to cause division is wrong —

Reverence, respect and love is due
to God and to our brothers —

Using useless words to control and provoke
                    is not right —

There is merit in talking for a good goal —
There is sin involved in one who
                    maliciously has a bad intention
                    for their conversation —

Lying is a sin through speaking —
                    bearing false witness —
                    mocker, slander, laughing
                    at others raising oneself
                    above,

God gives us the Commandments —

We have the Precepts of the Church —

Religious are to obey their superiors —

From Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius

                        Model of General Examination
Made of Five Elements or Points

                1. To give thanks to God, our Lord, for all the benefits received.
                2. To ask for His grace to know and expel our sins.
                3. To question our soul about the sins committed during
this same day, examining ourselves hour after hour from
the time of our awakening, in thoughts, words, and
actions, in the order given in the Particular Examination.
                4. To ask forgiveness for the faults committed.
                5. To propose with God's help to correct ourselves; then,
afterward, to recite the Our Father.

Glorious Mysteries

                The Resurrection

                (1) R. Jesus died and Jesus rose —
In our lives we are to change to be more
                    like our heavenly Father —
What can happen is a person in a community —
marriage, religious life — if they can
get away with it — just keeps trying
more and more to not change in holiness,
but rebel against the will of God —
to be single and enforce their way — rather
than see themselves as members of
a body — working as one

                (2) R. Christ showed us He worked with companions —
like St. Ignatius — centered in living in God's
                        will, serving God, practicing the
                        spiritual exercises of disciplining ones
                        will —
                        If one uses secrets, manipulation,
                        passive-aggressive measures to get
one's will opposed to God's will — they are missing the story
of why we are here —
we are miserable living a life against
                            God's will —
Where do we stop — we move like a bull in
a China shop — knocking down the
whole deck of cards — only to keep this
                            vicious circle going in disobedience,
                            rebelliousness.

                (3) R. Jesus came the new Adam — to show us
His peace, His love, His gentleness —
He was in one accord with the Father's
will — to His death on the cross —
Jesus died and in that dying to our
rebellious ways we can live a
life more likened to Jesus — more
perfected as Our Heavenly Father is
                        perfect.

                (4) R. A person who stays focused on what they
want against God's will -- and manipulate, lie, hurt
others to get it leads a miserable
life — hell is total isolation — no love — only hatred

                (5) R. Mother Teresa showed us how she
                        focused on others.
Pope John Paul II showed us how he
                        focused on others.

As a person gives in more and more to selfishness
they see little in being able to work
with others — they see the world
                        pivoting around them —
They see themselves, many times, as the
way, rather than following Jesus —
they have set up rules, a cubby
hole, a reality and they see
                            themselves as king —
they put themselves on the throne —
not the Sacred Heart of Jesus

                    Jesus died, Jesus rose

Jesus teaches us we have to deal with
our wounds — to change to be
                        living, not manipulating and punishing
                        others

                (6) R. In the St. Ignatius Spiritual Exercises
there is the model of a general examination
made of five elements or points.

                (7) R. The spiritual exercises is rooted in
                        generosity.

Prayer from St. Ignatius

Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labor and not to ask for any reward,
Save that of knowing
that I am doing your will.

                (8) R. Lies to ourselves about our bad
                    behavior while we force our
                    ways through manipulation with
needed jobs on others is wrong —
the more we hurt, the greater our sin —
                    malice, perverseness, rebellion to
doing God's will in love — makes us
have a dark, selfish reality —

We see through this tainted vision —
see others through dark vision —
                        tainted reality —
see God this way — not seeing His light
and love and His constancy with us —

We see ourselves as being cheated —
                            black inside, isolated,
                            angry, punitive —
                            manipulative to act out anger,
                            darkness in us —
blaming others for the state we are
in when with our free will
                                we choose unloving, sinful
                                manipulative ways that made
                                us isolated and dark inside

                (9) R. Christ had companions and he worked
                        with them to form the
                        Church today

The Almighty God, came a little
helpless baby and died on the cross —

Why do some act in darkness, like
pouty babies fighting to get their
                        way

It is in surrender to God's will we
will come forth from this tomb
                        of darkness into His light

                (10) R. The rock was rolled back from the tomb
                        of darkness —

                    Freedom is found in surrendering
                        to God's will

Ascension Thursday May 21, 1998

Jesus:  (with great emotion)  COME OUT OF YOUR TOMBS, COME OUT I CALL YOU!!!!  I have imparted to you knowledge of myself, transforming your heart and soul to be more likened to mine.

I give you messages after the reception of the Eucharist for it is then I am most one with you. Put aside the thoughts of burgers and what have you in your minds and listen to Me you earthly beings.

Come out of your tombs, come out I call to you who slumber and sleep and do not hear the voice of the Mighty One. Your are like the dead that need to be raised. A trumpet horn blaring would not waken a man who is blind from birth. Only the Lord will unlock the minds of the senseless men, so foolish, but oh how I do indeed love them so.

Come out I tell you, I call you, in your sleepy state with scales in your eyes you do not see. If these scales were removed and a fresh lense graphed on the already existing eye, the men may see then clearly that I speak in these messages to bring about the Reign of My Heart and the triumph of the wailing woman's Heart on the earth.

I came, I gave the gifts and the world slept. My little ones, the apostles slept in the garden when my hour was at hand.

Oh my shanty little town, you are stuck indeed, in your ways. You walk the streets as blindmen and I shout to you.

My earth, come out of your tombs, come out and live a life rooted deeply in My Heart.

R. I was in the cage, it was a prison held on all sides by bars, I cried, I screamed, I felt no way to escape and low and behold I turned and where I had thought I was totally enclosed, a whole wall was not even there and I gaily walked into the free night and the sun followed me as I walked.

Jesus: Your earth is enclosed in a wall of their own making. They have put up walls to enclose themselves. They have traveled around in their little boxes and spit at the freedom that I wished to give them.

Freedom is in living according to God's will. Freedom is in Me.

Talk of chains, for you have some. You have bars and are enclosed in your stone or brick houses. A mighty fortress is your dwelling, you think. A mighty fortress is in the walls of My Heart. I am the gateway that leads to freedom. I am the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Holy One of the Virgin Israel. I am the gateway to heaven. I am God!

R. As I unite with Him in the most intimate experiences in the Eucharist, I become one in His desires and what He wants, I become more as He is. He is the life, He is the resurrection, He is God.

I become more in Him, His desires are my desires, the Father's Plan is imprinted in my soul during the Mass and the reception of the Eucharist and before the tabernacle. I am transformed immensely in those moments after Communion to being alive in Him.

God the Father: I am God, you are man, I have given My Son Jesus to you to unite your soul to Me. I am the Father, He is the First Born from the dead. Life will abound in heaven and on earth.

God has visited His people and now He Reigns. He has ransomed them with the Blood of the Lamb.

Jesus: Your earth is enclosed in a wall of their own making. They have put up walls to enclose themselves. They have traveled around in their little boxes and spit at the freedom that I wish to give them.

Freedom is in living according to God's will, Freedom is in Me.

Talk of chains, for you have some. Your have bars and are enclosed in your stone or brick houses. A mighty fortress is your dwelling, you think. A mighty fortress is in the walls of My Heart.

I am the gateway that leads to Freedom. I am the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Holy One of the Virgin Israel. I am the gateway to heaven. I am God.

Come out of your tombs, I am alive, I am treated as a dead object.

Sing a new song, the dead shall be raised.

They conquered the devil with the Blood of the Lamb.

Pray to the Holy Spirit to come mightily on you.

                    Sing: Glory, Glory, Glory Lord

                The Ascension

                (1) R. Jesus took them out near a town of
Bethany — He raised His arms
                        and went upward.

                (2) R. We can stay stuck in our ways, but
in the spiritual life you never
                        stay the same —
We are here to grow to be holy —

Living our lives trying to prove
                        to everybody our bad behavior
                        is right and manipulating others
to put up with our unloving
                        ways is what satan wants.

                    The fallen angels said
"We will not serve you, God"

Now the devil wants to take all
away from God they can —

The devil still has the same intelligence —
he has no rules to try to counsel
a person — he lies, he makes
                        right look wrong —
he appeals to pride — seeking
                        dominance for dominance
                        sake —
                        he works in isolation —
the devil tempts trying to get
the person to act for him —

                    Malicious vices are habits —
                        exercises where the person
gave in and gave in and it
                        becomes a vice

                    Rather than living a virtuous
                        life — their reality becomes
their way of life and they
live to force that dark behavior
on others using force of some
                        measure, setting up co-dependent
                        relationships for control —

God gives us a free will to choose
His will and discern the spirits
so we follow the counsel of
                        the Holy Spirit

We have a free will, but satan tempts
and tempts like Eve in the garden —
if she had it all and their was
                        no death —
                        Why did she sin —

                    The fallen angels said
                        "We won't serve God"
They want souls for hell —

We have a free will and we must
exercise to do God's will —
predispose ourselves to be with Him —

A person getting deeper and deeper into
                        manipulation of getting control
                        over what should happen for
                        evil — lives a miserable life —

                    God's rules are clear
God gives us the commandments —

                    We have a choice —

We choose to do evil when we sin —
then if we don't take responsibility
for it — we hurt God and others —

Jesus died for our sins, was beaten
                        bloodied —

Why can't we even say we are
sorry to God for our sinfulness —

The fallen angel wants a person to sin
                        and then lie about it
                        deceive, cover-up
try to make 'wrong' look 'right' —
                        make 'right' look 'wrong' —

                (3) R. Jesus ascended into heaven and left
the Apostles to do His work

If they were not united — all did
                        their own imperfect ways —
                        nothing would be accomplished

                (4) R. In the spiritual exercises we follow
                        Jesus.

In the spiritual exercises we are
                        servants of Jesus —

In the spiritual exercises we discern
                        the spirits.

                (5) Romans 8: 5-9

Those who are living by their natural inclinations have their minds on the things human nature desires; those who live in the Spirit have their minds on spiritual things. And human nature has nothing to look forward to but death, while the Spirit looks forward to life and peace, because the outlook of disordered human nature is opposed to God, since it does not submit to God's Law, and indeed it cannot, and those who live by their natural inclinations can never be pleasing to God. You, however, live not by your natural inclinations, but by the Spirit, since the Spirit of God has made a home in you. Indeed, anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

                (6) Sing: Come Holy Ghost —

                (7) R. We thank You God —
                        We surrender to You

Prayer for Union with Jesus

Come to me, Lord, and possess my soul. Come into my heart and permeate my soul. Help me to sit in silence with You and let You work in my heart.

I am Yours to possess. I am Yours to use. I want to be selfless and only exist in You. Help me to spoon out all that is me and be an empty vessel ready to be filled by You. Help me to die to myself and live only for You. Use me as You will. Let me never draw my attention back to myself. I only want to operate as You do, dwelling within me.

I am Yours, Lord. I want to have my life in You. I want to do the will of the Father. Give me the strength to put aside the world and let You operate my very being. Help me to act as You desire. Strengthen me against the distractions of the devil to take me from Your work.

When I worry, I have taken my focus off of You and placed it on myself. Help me not to give in to the promptings of others to change what in my heart You are making very clear to me. I worship You, I adore You and I love You. Come and dwell in me now.

-God's Blue Book, January 17, 1994

                (8) Deuteronomy 30: 19-20

Today, I call heaven and earth to witness against you: I am offering you life or death, blessing or curse. Choose life, then, so that you and your descendants may live, in the love of Yahweh your God, obeying his voice, holding fast to him; for in this your life consists, and on this depends the length of time that you stay in the country which Yahweh swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that he would give them.’

                (9) R. We thank You God
                    We surrender to You —
Help us to be holy — not rebellious —
                        not choosing selfishness
over Your will for us —

                (10) R. Help us to live our life according to Your
                        design

Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles

                (1) Acts 2: 1-11

When Pentecost day came round, they had all met together, when suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind which filled the entire house in which they were sitting; and there appeared to them tongues as of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages as the Spirit gave them power to express themselves.

Now there were devout men living in Jerusalem from every nation under heaven, and at this sound they all assembled, and each one was bewildered to hear these men speaking his own language. They were amazed and astonished. ‘Surely,’ they said, ‘all these men speaking are Galileans? How does it happen that each of us hears them in his own native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; people from Mesopotamia, Judaea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya round Cyrene; residents of Rome—Jews and proselytes alike—Cretans and Arabs, we hear them preaching in our own language about the marvels of God.’

                (2) R. Jesus washed their feet —

                (3) John 20: 19-23

In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, 'Peace be with you,' and, after saying this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy at seeing the Lord, and he said to them again, 'Peace be with you.

'As the Father sent me,
so am I sending you.'

After saying this he breathed on them and said:

Receive the Holy Spirit.
If you forgive anyone's sins,
they are forgiven;
if you retain anyone's sins,
they are retained.

                (4) Sing: Veni Sancte Spiritu

                (5) From the Lectionary

                        Pentecost Sequence

Come, Holy Spirit, come!
And from your celestial home
Shed a ray of light divine!

Come, Father of the poor!
Come, source of all our store!
    Come, within our bosoms shine!

You, of comforters the best;
You, the soul's most welcome guest;
    Sweet refreshment here below;

In our Labor, rest most sweet;
Grateful coolness in the heat;
Solace in the midst of woe.

O most blessed Light divine,
Shine within these hearts of yours,
    And our inmost being fill!

Where you are not, man has naught,
Nothing good in deed or thought,
Nothing free from taint of ill!

Heal our wounds, our strength renew;
On our dryness pour your dew;
    Wash the stains of guilt away;

Bend the stubborn heart and will;
Melt the frozen, warm the chill;
Guide the steps that go astray.

On the faithful, who adore
And confess you, evermore
    In your sev'nfold gift descend;

Give them virtue's sure reward;
Give them your salvation, Lord;
Give them joys that never end. Amen.
Alleluia.

Holy Spirit Novena

Opening Prayer

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear Father, we come to You in the name of Jesus, in union with Him in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in the Holy Spirit. We come to You united to the Child Jesus of Good Health and the Infant of Prague. We come to You in the perfect, sinless heart of Our Mother Mary, asking her powerful intercession, uniting ourselves to her holy tears. We come to You united to all the angels and saints, and the souls in purgatory.

Prayer for Holy Spirit

We pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on us, to be baptized by the Holy Spirit, that He will descend mightily on us as He did on the Apostles at Pentecost. That the Holy Spirit will transform us from fear to fearlessness and that He will give us courage to do all the Father is asking of us to help bring about the Reign of the Sacred Heart and the triumph of Mary's Immaculate Heart. We pray for the Holy Spirit to descend mightily on the Jesuits and the Poor Clares on the Shepherds of Christ leaders and members and on the whole Body of Christ and the world.

Protection by the Blood of Jesus

We pray that the Blood of Jesus will be spread on us, everyone in our families, and the Shepherds of Christ Movement, that we will be able to move steadfastly ahead and be protected from the evil one.

                (8) Holy Spirit Novena Prayer continues

Healing

We pray for healing in body, mind, and soul and generational healing in ourselves, in all members in our families, and in all members of the Shepherds of Christ Movement, the Jesuit Community, the Poor Clares, the Body of Christ, and the world.

Prayer for Strength and Light

We adore You, oh Holy Spirit. Give us strength, give us light, console us. We give ourselves entirely to You. Oh Spirit of light and grace, we want to only do the will of the Father. Enlighten us that we may live always in the Father's will.

Eternal Spirit fill us with Your Divine Wisdom that we may comprehend more fully insight into Your Divine Mysteries.

Give us lights, Oh Holy Spirit that we may know God. Work within the heart, the spiritual womb of the Virgin Mary, to form us more and more into the image of Jesus.

Prayer to Be One with God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit

We long for You, Oh Spirit of Light, we long to know God, we want to be one with Him, our Divine God. We want to be one with the Father, know Him as a Person most intimately. We want to know the beloved One, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and live and dwell in Him at all times, every moment of our lives. We want to be one with You, Oh Spirit of Light, that You move in us in our every breath.

                (9) Holy Spirit Novena Prayer continues

Prayer to Be One in Jesus

Let us experience life in the Sacred Heart of Jesus, so we can say as Saint Paul, "I have been crucified with Christ and yet I am alive; yet it is no longer I, but Christ living in me...." Let us live, united to the Mass, all through the day being one in Him. Let us be able to love and know in this elevated state of oneness with our God. We long for Thee, oh beauteous God, we love You, we love You, we love You. We praise You, worship You, honor You, adore You, and thank You, our beloved God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Prayer to Dwell in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary

We seek to be one in God, to live and dwell in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary, our little heaven on earth, to experience life in the all perfect, pure, sinless heart of our Mother. We want the Holy Spirit to move in us and to be united to Jesus as the Bridegroom of our souls and be a most perfect sacrifice offered to the Father at every moment as we unite in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass around the world to help in the salvation of souls.

Prayer for the Holy Spirit and His Gifts

Come Holy Spirit, come, come into our hearts, inflame all people with the fire of Your love.

Leader: Send forth Your Spirit and all will be reborn.
All:  And You will renew the face of the earth.

We pray for the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, we ask for perfection in our souls to make us holy, holy souls likened to God.

Dear Holy Spirit, we give ourselves to You soul and body. We ask You to give us the Spirit of Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, and Fear of the Lord.

                (10) Holy Spirit Novena Prayer continues

Prayer for the Word Alive in Our Hearts

We know, dear Holy Spirit, the Word in His human nature was brought forth within the womb of the woman. We pray that His word will be brought forth in our hearts as He lives and dwells in us. We want the incarnation to go on in our lives. Dear Holy Spirit, work in us.

Little Prayers to the Holy Spirit

Dear Holy Spirit, help us not to be ignorant or indifferent or weak, help us to be strong with the love of God.

Dear Holy Spirit, please pray for our needs for us.

Dear Holy Spirit, help us to respect God and to avoid sin. Help us to live in the Father's will.

Dear Holy Spirit, help us to keep Your commandments and to respect authority. Help us to love all things as You will us to love them. Help us to want to pray and always serve God with the greatest love. Help us to know the truth. Help us to have the gift of faith, hope, and love. Help us to know what is right and what is wrong.

A Prayer for Intimacy with the Lamb, the Bridegroom of the Soul

Oh Lamb of God, Who take away the sins of the world, come and act on my soul most intimately. I surrender myself, as I ask for the grace to let go, to just be as I exist in You and You act most intimately on my soul. You are the Initiator. I am the soul waiting Your favors as You act in me. I love You. I adore You. I worship You. Come and possess my soul with Your Divine Grace, as I experience You most intimately.

                The Assumption

                (1) R. Lord give your people joy —
give us health of mind and body —
                        we pray through the intercession
                        of Mary our Mother

                (2) R. Thank you God for Mary —
                        our Mother — conceived without
                        sin

John 19: 25-27

Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. Seeing his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near her, Jesus said to his mother, ‘Woman, this is your son.’ Then to the disciple he said, ‘This is your mother.’ And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

                (3) R. Jesus performed the first public
                        miracle at Cana at the
                        Mary's promptings —
Oh Mary, Our Lady of Clearwater — help us

                (4) R. Rejoice for the gifts God has
                        give us

Luke 1: 46-55

And Mary said:

My soul proclaims
    the greatness of the Lord
and my spirit rejoices
    in God my Saviour;
because he has looked upon
    the humiliation of his servant.
Yes, from now onwards
all generations will call me blessed,
for the Almighty
has done great things for me.
Holy is his name,
and his faithful love extends age after age
    to those who fear him.
He has used the power of his arm,
he has routed the arrogant of heart.
He has pulled down princes
    from their thrones
        and raised high the lowly.
He has filled the starving with good things,
    sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the help
    of Israel his servant,
        mindful of his faithful love
—according to the promise
    he made to our ancestors—
of his mercy to Abraham
and to his descendants for ever.

Mary is Crowned Queen of Heaven and Earth

                (1) Revelation 12: 1-2

Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman, robed with the sun, standing on the moon, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant, and in labour, crying aloud in the pangs of childbirth.

Mary's Message
from the Rosary of August 27, 1996

Mary:  I stood beneath the cross of my Son, and my Heart was in such pain for I saw Him before my eyes. I saw Him covered with blood. I saw Him die. My Heart, my children, my Heart to watch my Son, but my Heart, my Heart, how I suffered for my little children of the world that give in to this world and give up the love of my Son. O my little children of light, I give you this message. Carry this light into the darkness for your Mother Mary, for I stood beneath the cross and I cried. I cried for the little ones. I cried for the young ones, the ones that do not care and will lose their souls. How do I make you see for you will not listen to me? What can I do? I come. I appear. I beg. I plead. I give you these gifts from my Son, and you reject me. I do not deliver messages very often anymore for I have been ignored. The message is the same. You do not read the messages I have given to you. Please help me. Help the little children. I appear. I appear. I appear, and I am ignored. I stood beneath the cross, and I cried. I cried, and my Heart was in such anguish for my little children, for I am searching for them this day as I searched for the Child Jesus. Please, please help me. I cannot hold back the hand of my Son any longer. I am Mary, your Mother. I ask you to help my children. You are my children of light.

end of Mary's Message, August 27, 1996

                (3) Sing: Hail Holy Queen

                (4) From Tell My People

The Holy Spirit

Jesus: "My beloved friend, tell My people to pray daily to the Holy Spirit. They are to pray for an increase in His gifts. My people must realize that the Holy Spirit comes to transform them. The Spirit desires to transform you more and more according to My image. Those who are docile to His touch become increasingly shaped in My likeness. He performs this marvel within Mary's Immaculate Heart. The more one dwells in My Mother's Heart, the more active are the workings of the Spirit. The Spirit leads Mary to place you within My own Heart. In both Our Hearts, then, your transformation continues. The more you are formed after My own Heart, the more I lead you to the bosom of My Father. Tell My people all this. Tell them to pray daily for a greater appreciation of these wondrous gifts. I am Lord and Master. All who come to My Heart will be on fire to receive the gifts of the Spirit in ever greater measure! I love and bless My people!"

Reflection: The Holy Spirit is given to us to fashion us ever more according to the likeness of Jesus. And the more we are like Jesus, the more Jesus leads us to the Father. Do we, each day, pray to the Holy Spirit to be more open to His transforming influence? Do we strive each day to grow in union with Mary? The greater our union with our Mother, the spouse of the Holy Spirit, the greater is the transforming action of the Holy Spirit within us.

                (5) From Tell My People

Mary, Model and Teacher of Love

Mary: "My beloved priest-son, I have led you to greatly increase your prayers and sacrifices for others. I have often reminded you of my teaching at Fatima--that many souls go to Hell because they have no one to pray and make sacrifices for them. My Immaculate Heart longs that all my little ones be saved. Tell my little ones that they must love their neighbor through prayer, sacrifices, and other ways, too. All should learn from me. My Heart is symbol, not only of my great love for God, but also of my tender love for all my little ones. Imitate my love for God and all my children. If you love Jesus and me, this means you also love all of God's children. Jesus died for all. You cannot exclude anyone from your love.

"My Heart is the perfect imitator of the Heart of my Son. I will teach you how to love the Father and all mankind after the example of Jesus. All my little ones, I long for you to come to my Heart so I can teach you the ways of love! I love you so much! Come to my Immaculate Heart. Pressed against my Heart, I will hold you in my arms. I will clothe you with my motherly and protective mantle. As I hold you close to my Heart, I will teach you the ways of love!"

Reflection: In the above message, our dear mother tenderly reminds us that the following of Jesus is summed up in love of God and neighbor.

                (6) From Tell My People

Children of Mary

Mary: "My beloved priest-son, how often I have embraced you! How often I have told you how much I love you! How often, at your request, I have held you in my arms as my child. You have told me you realize how helpless you are of yourself, but how strong and secure you feel dwelling in my heart and Jesus' Heart. Your sense of your littleness and helplessness endears you to me all the more. I take you ever more securely to my maternal and Immaculate Heart. Tell all my people of the riches you have found within my heart. Tell them how I place you within my Son's Heart. Tell them that, because of my motherly action, you are now more closely united with Jesus than ever before. Tell my people to come to my heart and draw forth similar riches. Tell all my little ones that Jesus, Who is Lord and Master, bids me to lead all to His Sacred Heart. The more my little ones dwell within my Immaculate Heart, the more I place them within Jesus' Heart. Oh, how I love all my little ones! How I love to bring them to the Heart of Jesus!"

Reflection: Again, let us remind ourselves that we live in the Age of the Two Hearts. The Hearts of Jesus and Mary are inseparable. The more we dwell in Mary's heart, the more she places us within Jesus' Heart. Within these Two Hearts, the Holy Spirit fashions us more and more in the likeness of Christ, and the more we become like Christ, the more closely He unites us to the Father.

                (7) From Tell My People

Mary as Our Mediatrix

Mary: "My beloved priest-son, I have given you a profound conviction of how necessary it is to realize I am your motherly mediatrix with Jesus. I have been appointed by the Triune God. Constantly remind all my little ones of this great truth! The more my little ones give themselves to my maternal and Immaculate Heart, the more I bring them to the Heart of Jesus!"

Reflection: Some mistakenly think that Mary "gets in the way" of their relationship with Jesus. How far from the truth is this erroneous attitude. Mary's role in our salvation has been willed by God. Enough said!

                (8) From Tell My People

Spiritual Childhood

Mary: "My beloved priest-son, how I love to enfold you in my arms as my little child! Enfolded in my arms in my maternal embrace, I press you against my Immaculate Heart. I draw you within my Heart. There, through my maternal intercession, I clothe you with Jesus' graces. As you dwell in my Heart, I place you ever more deeply within Jesus' Heart and there the Holy Spirit fashions you increasingly in the image of my Son. As you grow in the likeness of Jesus, He takes you ever closer to the Father.

"Thus, as you grow in the sense of your helplessness without God, the stronger you become in Jesus. Childlike thus becomes strength. The smaller you become in living out spiritual childhood, the taller you stand beside Jesus. Weakness becomes strength, your sense of helplessness becomes spiritual maturity!

"Tell all my children about the wonders of spiritual childhood! Tell them to come to me and I will school them in its ways. How I love all my children! Oh, how I love to exercise my motherhood toward them all!"

Reflection: In the Gospel, Jesus speaks emphatically to us about spiritual childhood: "At this time the disciples came to Jesus and said, 'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?' So he called a little child to him and set the child in front of them. Then he said, 'I tell you solemnly, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven'" (Matthew 18:1-4).

                (9) From Tell My People

Mother of Our Christian Virtues

Mary: "My beloved priest-son, I wish all my children to come to my Immaculate Heart each day. I cooperate with the Holy Spirit in helping all my little ones to grow in the life of the Christian virtues. As my children dwell within my maternal Heart, the Holy Spirit leads them along the path of the virtues. Faith, hope, love, prudence, justice, fortitude, temperance, humility, chastity, and the other virtues take deeper root in the hearts of my children. Above all, the queen of the virtues, love, increasingly rules the lives of my little ones.

"I am ever at the side of my children to help them grow in the life of the virtues. As I do so, I place them more deeply within the Heart of Jesus, the source of growth in all the virtues. The Holy Spirit, then, desires that my children dwell both within my Heart and Jesus' Heart. Within Our Hearts He clothes you with growth in the life of the virtues. The more you dwell in my Heart, the more ready you are for my placing you deeply within the Heart of Jesus where the Holy Spirit clothes you more and more with the splendor of all the virtues. Thus you grow in the likeness of Christ, and Jesus unites you more closely to the Father."

Reflection: Since Mary is our spiritual Mother, she has a special God-given role in helping us grow in the life of the Christian virtues. As she tenderly and lovingly leads us in the life of the virtues, she is our great model in how to follow Christ. She lived the Christian virtues perfectly. She is so eager to help us increasingly put on Christ through a more dynamic living of the Christian virtues, especially the virtue of love.

                (10) From Tell My People

Age of the Two Hearts

Jesus:  "My beloved priest-companion, I have allowed you to experience in extraordinary fashion the riches contained in My Heart and My Mother's Heart. I desire that you tell all My people about these riches. I desire that My people consecrate themselves to My Sacred Heart and to Mary's Immaculate Heart. My people are living in the beginnings of the age of the Two Hearts.

"After the time of the purification is completed, this new era of the Church and the world will become firmly established. This era will be characterized by the triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the reign of My Sacred Heart. All those who consecrate themselves to My Heart and to My Mother's Heart will help to establish this glorious new age. I am Lord and Master. Please listen to My urgent request. Within Our Hearts you will experience the love and security, the peace and the joy, which you all desire. I love My people with a tremendous love, and in My love I give them this message!"

Reflection: This is the Age of the Two Hearts! The surest road to sanctity in these our times is through consecration to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary. In making this consecration, and striving with God's grace to live it as best we can each day, we are contributing to the establishment of the triumph of the Immaculate Heart and to the arrival of the reign of the Sacred Heart.

Betty is a handmaid who has prayed in the

China Church for 11 years. To get from her

house to the church she uses a walker and

must go over a creek and a little bridge.

We wanted a little place she could rest

by the Church. We need about $1,000 to

make this happen. Can you help us?

Words of Jesus to Members of
Shepherds of Christ Associates:

"My beloved priest-companion, I intend to use the priestly newsletter, Shepherds of Christ, and the movement, Shepherds of Christ Associates, in a powerful way for the renewal of My Church and the world.

"I will use the newsletter and the chapters of Shepherds of Christ Associates as a powerful instrument for spreading devotion to My Heart and My Mother's Heart.

"I am calling many to become members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. To all of them I will give great blessings. I will use them as instruments to help bring about the triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the reign of My Sacred Heart. I will give great graces to the members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. I will call them to be deeply united to My Heart and to Mary's Heart as I lead them ever closer to My Father in the Holy Spirit."

- Message from Jesus to Father Edward J. Carter, S.J., Founder, as given on July 31, 1994,
feast of Saint Ignatius Loyola, Founder of the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits)
