Romans 8: 5-9

Those who are living by their natural inclinations have their minds on the things human nature desires; those who live in the Spirit have their minds on spiritual things. And human nature has nothing to look forward to but death, while the Spirit looks forward to life and peace, because the outlook of disordered human nature is opposed to God, since it does not submit to God's Law, and indeed it cannot, and those who live by their natural inclinations can never be pleasing to God. You, however, live not by your natural inclinations, but by the Spirit, since the Spirit of God has made a home in you. Indeed, anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

Today's Readings

2 Kings 19: 9-11, 14-21, 31-35, 36

on hearing that Tirhakah king of Cush was on his way to attack him.

Sennacherib again sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying, 'Tell Hezekiah king of Judah this, "Do not let your God on whom you are relying deceive you with the promise: Jerusalem will not fall into the king of Assyria's clutches. You have learnt by now what the kings of Assyria have done to all the other countries, devoting them to destruction. Are you likely to be saved?

Hezekiah took the letter from the messengers' hands and read it; he then went up to the Temple of Yahweh and spread it out before Yahweh. Hezekiah said this prayer in the presence of Yahweh, 'Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, enthroned on the winged creatures, you alone are God of all the kingdoms of the world, you made heaven and earth. Hezekiah said this prayer in the presence of Yahweh, 'Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, enthroned on the winged creatures, you alone are God of all the kingdoms of the world, you made heaven and earth. Give ear, Yahweh, and listen; open your eyes, Yahweh, and see! Hear the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to insult the living God.  It is true, Yahweh, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations,  they have thrown their gods on the fire, for these were not gods but human artefacts -- wood and stone -- and hence they have destroyed them. But now, Yahweh our God, save us from his clutches, I beg you, and let all the kingdoms of the world know that you alone are God, Yahweh.'

Isaiah son of Amoz then sent the following message to Hezekiah, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I have heard the prayer which you have addressed to me about Sennacherib king of Assyria." Here is the pronouncement which Yahweh has made about him:

"She despises you, she scorns you,
    the virgin daughter of Zion;
she tosses her head at you,
    the daughter of Jerusalem!

for a remnant will issue from Jerusalem,
and survivors from Mount Zion.
Yahweh Sabaoth's jealous love
    will accomplish this.

"This, then, is what Yahweh says about the king of Assyria:

"He will not enter this city,
will shoot no arrow at it,
    confront it with no shield,
throw up no earthwork against it.

By the road by which he came,
        by that he will return;
he will not enter this city,
        declares Yahweh.
I shall protect this city and save it
    for my sake
and my servant David's sake." '

That same night the angel of Yahweh went out and struck down a hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the Assyrian camp. In the early morning when it was time to get up, there they lay, so many corpses. Sennacherib struck camp and left; he returned home and stayed in Nineveh.

Psalm 48: 2-4, 10-11

towering in beauty,
the joy of the whole world:

Mount Zion in the heart of the north,
    the settlement of the great king;
God himself among its palaces
    has proved himself its bulwark.

For look, kings made alliance,
    together they advanced;

Both your name and your praise, God,
are over the whole wide world.

Your right hand is full of saving justice,
    Mount Zion rejoices,
the daughters of Judah delight
    because of your saving justice.

John 14: 5

Thomas said, 'Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?'

Matthew 7: 6, 12-14

‘Do not give dogs what is holy; and do not throw your pearls in front of pigs, or they may trample them and then turn on you and tear you to pieces.

'So always treat others as you would like them to treat you; that is the Law and the Prophets.

‘Enter by the narrow gate, since the road that leads to destruction is wide and spacious, and many take it; but it is a narrow gate and a hard road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

                Pride or humility
Pride is the queen of vices —
Pride is why many men rebel against God

                Eve was proud —

She wanted to be equal to God

When a person sees themselves as
                        absolute and selfish
                        with regard to others
                        they are proud

Matthew 22: 36-40

'Master, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?' Jesus said to him, 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets too.'

Jesus: A woman had been given a great
family and she ignored and mistreated
the ones she was called to love —
seeking affection from all those who
were outside — all done for selfish pride —
her communication was that, that really left her
in control — superficial — seeing herself
as so kind — while she mistreated
her family — her god became those
she chose outside wanting only affection
for herself, acceptance — than she thought she
would be good and accepted —

She saw this her life by the affection she got from others —

                Selfish

A person is to bloom where
                they are planted —

You can see the lives of
many saintly, nuns, who are now
                saints who obeyed those above
                and worked with the difficult
they lived with in love to be a witness
                likened to Christ —

God has planted us in our
vocation in a garden to bear
                fruit —

On September 22, 2000 they opened up
Fr. Carter and found he had terminal
cancer — this was 9 years ago — he
worked with us — like Jesus worked with
the Apostles — Jesus is God — he worked
with those he was sending out to carry
                on his work

                    Fr. Carter sacrificed to spend
time with me, all of us, and
he wrote the Priestly Newsletter for the
                priests

                    Fr. Carter said
"the Blue Books were as much
his as mine and anyone who was a
leader in the Shepherds of Christ could not
be a leader without living by
                the Blue Books"

Fr. Carter saw that I with Jesus and
the help of John the President could
carry on this Movement to help
to bring to completion the Fatima
                Mission —

                    We have sent over 15,000,000
Priestly Newsletters with the Priestly Newsletter Books —

At the root of all pride is the exaggerated
                concern and love for self.
The person focuses on self and never
                truly appreciates others and God
as God intends us to — by the
                greatest commandment —
they never really let the true self
                grow as God intends —
                they are motivated by selfishness

Pride is the root of all evil —
We need humility to follow Christ —
Humility is forgetfulness of self —
You will not advance at all in the spiritual
life with a selfish exaggerated puffed-
                up self — selfishness —

Christ came and showed us to die to self if we do
we will live more and more the resurrected life —

In the spiritual life to advance you
need to — at some point —
                    leave the self behind

Prayer for Union with Jesus

Come to me, Lord, and possess my soul. Come into my heart and permeate my soul. Help me to sit in silence with You and let You work in my heart.

I am Yours to possess. I am Yours to use. I want to be selfless and only exist in You. Help me to spoon out all that is me and be an empty vessel ready to be filled by You. Help me to die to myself and live only for You. Use me as You will. Let me never draw my attention back to myself. I only want to operate as You do, dwelling within me.

I am Yours, Lord. I want to have my life in You. I want to do the will of the Father. Give me the strength to put aside the world and let You operate my very being. Help me to act as You desire. Strengthen me against the distractions of the devil to take me from Your work.

When I worry, I have taken my focus off of You and placed it on myself. Help me not to give in to the promptings of others to change what in my heart You are making very clear to me. I worship You, I adore You and I love You. Come and dwell in me now.

-God's Blue Book, January 17, 1994

You are called to be loving God and
                    others —

The ones God put you with —
                "not a street angel
                    and house devil"

                Focus inordinately on self —
                    Selfishness is one's own
worst enemy to the spiritual life

From The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius
    by Louis J. Puhl, S.J. p.11

21.                     SPIRITUAL EXERCISES

Which have as their purpose the conquest of self
and the regulation of one's life in such a way that
no decision is made under the influence of any
    inordinate attachment

The opposite of dying to self as God wants
us to do is pride —

                So much unhappiness in life,
                    broken marriages is because
                    of pride

Self - love above all else
                This person has not matured
                sufficiently to reach humility
                as Jesus taught us.

God is always to be first

Matthew 22: 36-40

'Master, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?' Jesus said to him, 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets too.'

                Mary is humble

Luke 1: 46-55

And Mary said:

My soul proclaims
    the greatness of the Lord
and my spirit rejoices
    in God my Saviour;
because he has looked upon
    the humiliation of his servant.
Yes, from now onwards
all generations will call me blessed,
for the Almighty
has done great things for me.
Holy is his name,
and his faithful love extends age after age
    to those who fear him.
He has used the power of his arm,
he has routed the arrogant of heart.
He has pulled down princes
    from their thrones
        and raised high the lowly.
He has filled the starving with good things,
    sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the help
    of Israel his servant,
        mindful of his faithful love
—according to the promise
    he made to our ancestors—
of his mercy to Abraham
and to his descendants for ever.

                Being humble is beautiful

                When Mary appears she is
                    So beautiful —
Mary is the perfect disciple of the Lord
                    Mary followed Jesus —

A disciple is a learner — if we think we
know it all we aren't a disciple

Mary is the handmaid of the Lord
We are here to build God's Kingdom

Humility is the most rare virtue —
Pride is the most common of sins —

People do not usually admit to their
                    own pride —

The devil loves pride in a person —
He works in this pride to get
them to serve him and not God and
not give love to God and others

Satan tells them — never to listen to any spiritual direction —
Satan works in this pride — it is awful —

                The Seven Capital sins —

1. Pride
2. Greed
3. Envy
4. Wrath
5. Lust
6. Gluttony
7. Sloth

                Humility is powerful

                Many religious can turn prideful
if they focus on self and
                    are willful

God calls them to follow Him — to be
                    a witness to the Light

God's love for us is real and
                God will outpour His grace
                    so we will lead a
                    virtuous life if we ask
Him and follow His example —

                Jesus gave me this prayer

Prayer for Union with Jesus

I am Yours to possess. I am Yours to use. I want to be selfless and only exist in You. Help me to spoon out all that is me and be an empty vessel ready to be filled by You. -God's Blue Book, January 17, 1994

Fr. Carter kept it in his pocket
next to his heart and prayed
                    it all day

Amos 5: 14-15, 21-24

Seek good and not evil
so that you may survive,
and Yahweh, God Sabaoth, be with you
as you claim he is.

Hate evil, love good,
let justice reign at the city gate:
it may be that Yahweh, God Sabaoth,
will take pity on the remnant of Joseph.

I hate, I scorn your festivals,
I take no pleasure
    in your solemn assemblies.
When you bring me burnt offerings . . .
your oblations, I do not accept them
and I do not look
    at your communion sacrifices
    of fat cattle.
Spare me the din of your chanting,
let me hear none of your strumming
    on lyres,
but let justice flow like water,
and uprightness
    like a never-failing stream!

Words of Jesus to Members of
Shepherds of Christ Associates:

"My beloved priest-companion, I intend to use the priestly newsletter, Shepherds of Christ, and the movement, Shepherds of Christ Associates, in a powerful way for the renewal of My Church and the world.

"I will use the newsletter and the chapters of Shepherds of Christ Associates as a powerful instrument for spreading devotion to My Heart and My Mother's Heart.

"I am calling many to become members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. To all of them I will give great blessings. I will use them as instruments to help bring about the triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the reign of My Sacred Heart. I will give great graces to the members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. I will call them to be deeply united to My Heart and to Mary's Heart as I lead them ever closer to My Father in the Holy Spirit."

- Message from Jesus to Father Edward J. Carter, S.J., Founder, as given on July 31, 1994,
feast of Saint Ignatius Loyola, Founder of the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits)
