September 8, 2011 - The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Micah 5: 1-4

But you (Bethlehem) Ephrathah,
the least of the clans of Judah,
from you will come for me
a future ruler of Israel
whose origins go back to the distant past,
to the days of old.
Hence Yahweh will abandon them
only until she who is in labour gives birth,
and then those who survive of his race
will be reunited to the Israelites.
He will take his stand
    and he will shepherd them
with the power of Yahweh,
with the majesty of the name of his God,
and they will be secure,
    for his greatness will extend
henceforth to the most distant parts
    of the country.

He himself will be peace!

                R. Micah the prophet, 600 B.C. —
It was at the time of the
                        Babylonian exile

Psalm 13: 5

As for me, I trust in your faithful love, Yahweh.
Let my heart delight in your saving help,
let me sing to Yahweh for his generosity to me,
let me sing to the name of Yahweh the Most High!

                ALLELUIA

Happy are you, holy Virgin Mary, deserving of all praise;
from you arose the sun of justice, Christ the Lord.

                R. The Birth of Mary is not recorded
                    anywhere in the scriptures —

                Shows about 150 years after
Christ about devotion to Mary —

Mary's parents were unable to have
                    a child —
                    then they conceived —

Mary was a very special child —
Mary worked with God's plan —
Mary was completely dedicated to God —
Whatever God asks of us that we
would be willing to do —

Romans 8: 28-30

We are well aware that God works with those who love him, those who have been called in accordance with his purpose, and turns everything to their good. He decided beforehand who were the ones destined to be moulded to the pattern of his Son, so that he should be the eldest of many brothers; it was those so destined that he called; those that he called, he justified, and those that he has justified he has brought into glory.

Matthew 1: 1-16, 18-23

Roll of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham:

Abraham fathered Isaac,
Isaac fathered Jacob,
Jacob fathered Judah and his brothers,
Judah fathered Perez and Zerah,
    whose mother was Tamar,
Perez fathered Hezron,
Hezron fathered Ram,
Ram fathered Amminadab,
Amminadab fathered Nahshon,
Nahshon fathered Salmon,
Salmon fathered Boaz,
    whose mother was Rahab,
Boaz fathered Obed,
    whose mother was Ruth,
Obed fathered Jesse;
and Jesse fathered King David.

David fathered Solomon,
whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,
Solomon fathered Rehoboam,
Rehoboam fathered Abijah,
Abijah fathered Asa,
Asa fathered Jehoshaphat,
Jehoshaphat fathered Joram,
Joram fathered Uzziah,
Uzziah fathered Jotham,
Jotham fathered Ahaz,
Ahaz fathered Hezekiah,
Hezekiah fathered Manasseh,
Manasseh fathered Amon,
Amon fathered Josiah;
and Josiah fathered Jechoniah
    and his brothers.
Then the deportation to Babylon
    took place.

After the deportation to Babylon:
Jechoniah fathered Shealtiel,
Shealtiel fathered Zerubbabel,
Zerubbabel fathered Abiud,
Abiud fathered Eliakim,
Eliakim fathered Azor,
Azor fathered Zadok,
Zadok fathered Achim,
Achim fathered Eliud,
Eliud fathered Eleazar,
Eleazar fathered Matthan,
Matthan fathered Jacob;
and Jacob fathered Joseph
    the husband of Mary;
of her was born Jesus
    who is called Christ.

This is how Jesus Christ came to be born. His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph; but before they came to live together she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being an upright man and wanting to spare her disgrace, decided to divorce her informally. He had made up his mind to do this when suddenly the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because she has conceived what is in her by the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son and you must name him Jesus, because he is the one who is to save his people from their sins.’ Now all this took place to fulfil what the Lord had spoken through the prophet:

Look! the virgin is with child
and will give birth to a son
whom they will call Immanuel,

a name which means ‘God–is–with–us’.

                R. We play on the surface of the earth —

In an orchestra the conductor - conducts
                    the instruments while the orchestra
plays a piece in harmony, unity —
in obedience to what is written in
                    the score —

We play on the surface of the earth —

The players come and go and leave the
                    stage —

The players were created by God for
                    His Plan —
He keeps them in existence —

                God the Father wants people
operating obedient to His Plan —

People working on His Plan as
                    one —

Being in harmony, living by the
                    order established by God —

                Living under God's authority —

Players on the surface of the earth —
The Play is about Salvation —

Adam and Eve had entered, the tree
                    the snake —

                Eve disobeyed God —

Adam and Eve rebelled against a
                    good God —
They are cast out of the garden of Eden —

Enter those in the Old Testament

Those in the Gospel - today - have
                    their turn —
The Fathers obedient to God —
all the way to David —
                    Joseph comes from this
                        lineage —

God's chosen people are formed —

                Mary enters, Joseph, Jesus —

                There is peace, unity, harmony
                    among them —
others are on the earth that
are not living by God's will —

                Jesus is God —
He comes to teach us about
                        Himself — about God's Plan

He comes to save us from our sins —

Mary is the perfect handmaid of
                    the Lord

God wants obedience to His Plan
                    on the earth —

                Jesus comes —

                Men are rebellious —
They killed the male babies —

You are watching as this is a
play and you are in the audience —

The Plan is the Plan of God the Father —
men of the earth, of the human
                    race have been created with
a purpose, in the image and
likeness of God — They are
given a free will to choose love —
to choose obedience to God —

God intends us to work for Him —
to have goals — the goals
                    of our vocation —

The Chosen people of the Old Testament
were to form a people —
                    worshipping and obeying
                    the one true God
                    living by His rules —

Mary was conceived without sin —

                Mary, the most perfect handmaid
                    of the Lord —

She lived to obey God —

                Mary most perfectly
                    followed in the footprints
                    of Jesus —

She is the most perfect handmaid
                    of God —

Mary lived God's Plan for her —

                She entered the stage —
                    docile, humble —
                    loving her motherhood —
loving God's Plan for her —

Perfect harmony on the stage of life —
union with the Father, His will
                    His purpose for her —

                Mary, full of grace —
Shows us the perfect woman —
                    Obedient to God —
                    Not rebelling like Eve —

Now see Eve on the stage —
                    listening to the devil —
                    Giving into the devil —
                    All of us suffering because
                        of Eve's weakness —

Now see Mary on the stage
                    Saying "yes"
                    Loving to obey God —
                    Enduring these sorrows

    The Seven Sorrows

    1. The prophecy of Simeon
    2. The flight into Egypt
    3. The loss of the Child Jesus in the temple
    4. Jesus and Mary meet on the way to the cross
    5. Jesus dies on the cross
    6. Jesus is taken down from the cross and laid in Mary's arms
    7. The burial of Jesus

                R. Jesus is the Savior!
                    Jesus is the Teacher!
Jesus is the most perfect man
                        that lived —

See Jesus and Mary on the earth
                    (1) Perfect compliance to God's
                        will —
                    (2) Living in love — sacrificing
                        for others

You see other players on the
                    stage (the surface of the
                    earth)
                    rebelling - by their doing
                    this bringing down sufferings
                    for others because of their
                    disobedience

We see the rebelliousness of Judas —
We see the rebelliousness of those
                    who put Jesus to death

We know God gives us the very
                    air we breathe —

Without air or if it got
                    contaminated we would
                    die —

                Here is the stage

Adam and Eve                        New Adam and
                                                              New Eve

We can choose to be like Eve
                    who listened to the snake
                    and hurt the whole human
                    race —

Or we can be like Mary, the perfect
                    Handmaid of God —

                Obedience is paramount —

There are the 3 stages of the Church —

Excerpt from Response in Christ by Fr. Edward Carter, S.J.

e) Relationship with Members of the Church

There is but one true Church of Christ. Yet this one Church has three different states of existence. There is the pilgrim Church, the Church of this world, composed of members who have received the grace of Christ and strive for its development. They have not yet obtained the goal of their efforts, as have the members of the heavenly Church, who enjoy God in eternal happiness. The Church suffering is an intermediate state of existence necessary for those who had not achieved the required purification as members of the pilgrim Church. Although there are these three phases of the Church’s existence, there is a profound union existing between all the members. All these members possess the same basic life of grace in Christ, and this common life establishes the most intimate bonds of love. In our preceding chapter, we discussed the pilgrim Church. Let us now consider the Church suffering and the heavenly Church.

The members of the Church suffering are those who have departed from this life in an incomplete state of Christian development. Their development is incomplete in the sense that grace has not fully taken possession of them, and, as a result, they are yet closed in upon themselves to a greater or lesser degree. They as yet cannot open themselves out in complete love to the Triune God in the beatific vision. They must undergo a further purification, a purification which could have been achieved upon earth with merit. Now the purification must be achieved with no merit attached. The pain of this purification is mixed with the certain expectation of achieving the vision of God. We can hasten the advent of this vision for this people by the offering of prayers and other good works. Scripture itself refers to our action on behalf of those in purgatory in Chapter 12 of the Second Book of Maccabees beginning with verse 38.

The members of the heavenly Church are those in whom the life of grace has taken full possession and has reached its completion in the life of glory. Faith now is unnecessary, as the light of glory gives the human intellect a new strength and capacity for seeing God face-to-face. While the Christian was a wayfarer, he received the imprint of the indwelling Trinity as he shared in God’s own life. Now in heaven that grace-life and possession of God reaches its completion—the absolute completion is not achieved, however, until the resurrection of the body. The divine persons give Themselves to the beatified in a profound union far surpassing that of the indwelling of the Trinity experienced here below.

This life of heaven is still the Christ-life, for just as we possess a share in Trinitarian life here below as mediated by Christ, and exercise this grace-life as structured by Him, so also in heaven is the mediation of Christ present. In the words of Rahner, "One always sees the Father through Jesus. Just as immediately as this, for the directness of the vision of God is not a denial of the mediatorship of Christ as man."14 And not only does the humanity of Christ unite the blessed to God, but also, in some way, to the whole of creation. This is merely a completion of what is begun here below, namely, the union with Christ in His humanity establishing the Christian in a special relationship with God, with other men, and with the whole of creation. We have a glimpse, therefore, of the fullness of life which members of the heavenly Church possess.

The heavenly Church, as St. Thomas says, is the true Church.15 The Church of this earth and the Church of purgatory are, each in its own way, reaching out in loving hope for the heavenly Jerusalem. Vatican II puts it very simply: "The Church, to which we are called in Christ Jesus, and in which we acquire sanctity through the grace of God, will attain her full perfection only in the glory of heaven."16

The members of the heavenly Church can help us in living our life of grace until we too share its fullness with them. Their power of intercession on our behalf is but another ramification of the communal aspect of Christianity. We are meant to help others grow in Christ. We, in turn, are intended by God to receive aid from others—yes, from members of the heavenly Church, as well as from those with whom we dwell here below.

Not only can we be aided by the saints’ intercession, but the example of the canonized saints can also be of great value to us. They have concretely proved that full holiness is possible. Such an inspiration is of real worth when we are tempted to think that Christian sanctity in its higher degrees is impossible of attainment. Moreover, the canonized saints, in their diversity, teach us that there are many authentic versions of Christian holiness. They can be innovators in showing us that there are numerous possibilities in assimilating the mystery of Christ, although the basic assimilation remains the same for all Christians of all times. In the opinion of Rahner this is one of the chief roles the canonized saints exert in the life of the Church.17

                R. We are one as members of the
                    mystical body of Christ
                    with those all over the
                    world —

We are to obey God —
Love the Plan of the Father —

                Love the vocation God wants
                    for us —

By the sweat of our brow we
                    work for Him —

The Shepherds of Christ is to help bring
peace to this world — to live to go
                    out to others and spread
                    the truth —

                To love the souls Jesus
died for and to try to
                    reach them

We see the saints and the
                    contribution they made —
                    St. Paul, the Apostles and
their lives speak to us today

                The devil said
                    "I will not serve"

                The devil wants people doing
                    their own will

Promises of Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary to those devoted to His Sacred Heart:

    1. I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.
    2. I will establish peace in their homes.

    3. I will comfort them in all their afflictions.
    4. I will be their refuge during life and above all in death.
    5. I will bestow a large blessing on all their undertakings.
    6. Sinners shall find in My Heart the source and the infinite ocean of mercy.
    7. Tepid souls shall grow fervent.
    8. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.
    9. I will bless every place where a picture of My Heart shall be set up and honored.
    10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
    11. Those who promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be blotted out.
    12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of My Heart that My all-powerful love will grant to all those who communicate on the
first Friday in nine consecutive months the grace of final penitence; they shall not die in My disgrace nor without receiving
their sacraments; My divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.

Apostles of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus

My dear fellow Associate Members,

Jesus is calling special apostles to join a new division of the Shepherds of Christ Movement. Here is a message from Jesus given to Father Carter:

My beloved priest-companion, I am requesting that a new prayer movement be started under the direction of Shepherds of Christ Ministries. I am asking for volunteers who are willing to pray before the Blessed Sacrament for one hour, twice-weekly. Members of the Shepherds of Christ prayer chapters, as well as others, are to be invited to join this movement.

These apostles are to pray for the intentions I am giving you. For part of the hour they are to use the prayers of the Shepherds of Christ Associates Handbook. They may spend the rest of the hour as they so choose.

I will use this new prayer movement within My Shepherds of Christ Ministries in a powerful way to help in the renewal of My Church and the world. I will give great graces to those who join this movement. The name, Apostles of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, is to be given to this movement.

I am inviting My beloved Rita Ring to be coordinator for this activity.

I pour out the great love of My Sacred Heart to all. I am Jesus, Chief Shepherd of the flock.

This is indeed a special calling for us to unite in one heart with His Eucharistic Heart and pray for the following intentions:

    1. For the spread of the devotion to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary culminating in the reign of the Sacred Heart and the triumph of the Immaculate Heart.
    2. For the Pope.
    3. For all bishops of the world.
    4. For all priests.
    5. For all sisters and brothers in the religious life.
    6. For all members of the Shepherds of Christ Movement, and for the spread of this movement to the world.
    7. For all members of the Catholic Church.
    8. For all members of the human family.
    9. For all souls in purgatory.

end of Apostles of the Eucharistic Heart message

                R. We pray for our priests so they
                    will be holy, but first
we work to be holy ourselves —

                Powerful intercession —
                    Unity with the members
                    of the mystical body —

                Union with those dwelling
in the Hearts of Jesus and Mary —

                Mary is our spiritual Mother
                    she is perfect —

She told St. Ignatius he is to
                    let go of inordinate
                    attachments

                R. We give ourselves to the Sacred Heart —
We pray for the priests and the Church —
Jesus' Sacred Heart is on fire for
love of us and the Church and
                            all men —

Help me Jesus to love You —

We are to consecrate our hearts to
Mary — She is the most
                        perfect disciple of God —

Mary is Mother of all children

Mary's Message
from the Rosary of August 27, 1996

Mary:  I stood beneath the cross of my Son, and my Heart was in such pain for I saw Him before my eyes. I saw Him covered with blood. I saw Him die. My Heart, my children, my Heart to watch my Son, but my Heart, my Heart, how I suffered for my little children of the world that give in to this world and give up the love of my Son. O my little children of light, I give you this message. Carry this light into the darkness for your Mother Mary, for I stood beneath the cross and I cried. I cried for the little ones. I cried for the young ones, the ones that do not care and will lose their souls. How do I make you see for you will not listen to me? What can I do? I come. I appear. I beg. I plead. I give you these gifts from my Son, and you reject me. I do not deliver messages very often anymore for I have been ignored. The message is the same. You do not read the messages I have given to you. Please help me. Help the little children. I appear. I appear. I appear, and I am ignored. I stood beneath the cross, and I cried. I cried, and my Heart was in such anguish for my little children, for I am searching for them this day as I searched for the Child Jesus. Please, please help me. I cannot hold back the hand of my Son any longer. I am Mary, your Mother. I ask you to help my children. You are my children of light.

end of Mary's Message

From July 5, 2011 Rosary

transcribed live from a tape

Clearwater, Florida

At the end of the rosary:

Mary speaks and she says: Count the stars if you can. Can you my child, count the stars in the darkened night? Why can you not count the stars? Oh, you can't do it. Think of that my child. How many things you do not know that are impossible for you to know on your own. For God has given to you great insights in these two days of retreat, and great grace has been granted to you, if you will cooperate with the grace, that your hearts will know Jesus, more and more fully, that you will be transformed more and more, in the image of my Son Jesus. Do whatever He tells you, my child. Let Him work in your life. Do not try and control what is opposed to the will of the Father, for it will bring you great unhappiness.

It is in seeking the will of God. It is in wanting to study and to know your God. It is in coming as a docile, small child, ready to be taught, that you will have the greatest happiness in your life. And the light of Jesus will shine from you, and others will see His life in you, and they will be touched, because God will use you as His instrument to witness to His love in this world. The world belongs to God and you belong to God. Do not fight the plan of the Father, by trying to be willful, by running your life against what He has planned for you.

For you have been given great talents to make a contribution, on this earth that will last long after you are gone, if you do not fight the plan of the Father, but that if you are docile to His touch, trying to seek, to know all that God wants you to know, that you will live as God intended you to live, to further His Kingdom, to spread love to others, and to grow in your purity and love of God yourself. I am Mary, your spiritual Mother. My Spouse the Holy Spirit wants to fill you now with His wisdom, with His grace, with His love, with His gift of discernment, but you must be docile to His touch. Come to my Immaculate Heart and He will work in your lives forming you more and more in the image of Jesus.

Oh my precious little one, I watched my Son as He died - for you — out of love for you. He rose on the third day that you could share His life, that you could be filled more abundantly at every moment with His life, that you could live out the plan of the Father in your lives, and be at peace even in suffering. I am your Heavenly Mother and I speak to you now. I speak to you, really speak to you. Study this message. Study this message and your life will be a life of peace. I am the Queen of Peace. I am the Queen of the Universe. I am Our Lady of Clearwater, your Heavenly Mother. Now my children, pray for all your needs. Ask the Holy Spirit to pray for you, now, for what you need, and then say loudly - Amen. Amen.

Hail Mary

Sing: Come unto Me all who are weary and find rest for your soul etc.

Jesus: I am Jesus your Savior and I am with you in a special way this night. Stop now and focus on God: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who fills your graced, baptized soul. Let go, little one. Know Our presence with you. For you do not walk alone. I am with you and I love you. To My death on the cross, I loved you, dear and sweet precious one. Gift of My Heavenly Father to this earth. Do not listen to satan. Pray to know the truth. The truth that God created you uniquely special, to make a contribution that goes far beyond your days on this earth. For He has made you great, for His purpose. He has created you and you belong to Him. Why would you fight this, for your own foolish whims, for the misery that you cause yourself when you oppose the Father's will — little sweet and dear loved ones.

Sing: I come to you with greatest love (A Song from Jesus)

Sing: I love you this day (God's Love)

Jesus: I give you Myself in the Eucharist. I long for you to come to Me, to be with Me. You who have given your lives to this service, be at peace. Know how much I love you. Do not be anxious, that what you convey to others is your joy at serving Me, at knowing My constant presence with you, of giving yourself to your Divine Bridegroom. I am the Bridegroom of your soul. Come to Me little sweet one.

And the sky was rolled back. It was rolled back, like the white cloth, rolled down the isle, for the bride to walk, to the bridegroom. Do not leave your bridegroom, betrayed at the altar of your life. Every day walk the isle, My precious bride, to My waiting arms and give your day and your life to Me. I long for you. I long to share every moment with you, that I am with you, around you, in you, and you are never alone.

Do not give into fear or going to the closet of fear and locking the door. When I knock on the door, there you are, with the old bad habits of fear. Or nurturing the old habits of 'poor me' and 'it's your fault'. Turn over your lives and your wills to God. Pray for the grace this night, the grace that I want to give to you, the healing grace that you will be My witness in this world, a light to the people in the market place, for they will see My light in you. They will know My love, and they will be touched as I operate through you.

Mary: Oh children, listen to Jesus. This is the building of the Two Hearts, and We are with you in a special way. Let the Holy Spirit fill you now. Be one with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Know that the Lady of Clearwater has never left this building, that I am here and that special graces are given to all who come, graces of healing, graces of being touched in their hearts, strength in the midst of adversity. Tremendous gifts are given to you from this place, from the statues with the glass. When you pray the Shepherds of Christ prayers you will know great healing in your homes, for your families and for yourself. Have faith, my little ones. I am your Mother, your spiritual Mother, Our Lady of Clearwater. The waters that were given to you, the Jesus Water and the Mary Water are special waters — waters of healing — waters to ward against satan. Use the waters wisely and know that God will grant to you special favors, for your faith, but your faith must increase. You must pray to God to increase your faith. I am Mary your Mother and I love you.

Hail Holy Queen

The Memorare

Mary: Come to the building, especially on the 5ths, and come and pray during the retreats. For your Heavenly Father wants you to help make reparation in praying, because the human race has majorly offended God. But your prayers weigh heavy in the heavenly courts. Be holy my chosen one. That the message that you give to others, is a message of love, that they will be touched by your holiness. And know that God is at work there. So they will seek Him and love Him, and find what they were created for - life in Him. I am your heavenly Mother, and I am here in this building. I am present with you now. I appear in great white light that you will know I have never left, and my Son, Jesus is here with you. Thank you for your prayers, for the human race. Pray with the prayers in China this month on retreat. I love you. I am your heavenly Mother. Your prayers weighed heavy in the courts of God. When you listen to the call of Jesus to pray here as He has requested, as the Heavenly Father has requested, as I have requested, and the prayers in China in the retreat ending on the 13th. Pray my little one, for you please your Heavenly Father greatly. I am Mary your Mother and I am with you now. Take a moment to just sit and feel this special time that God wants to touch your soul. I am Mary and I am with you. Jesus is with you. Pray now for your needs. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. God Bless America.

Please. Amen.

Shepherds of Christ Meeting

Mary: I am Forever by Your Side

Mary: My dear little children:

I am Mary, your beloved Mother. I come to you this day and I ask you to draw your hearts ever closer to my beloved Son. He is with you at every moment, longing to be joined ever so closely to your hearts. He loves you with the dearest love.

I call out to you to open up your hearts, to not be influenced by this world and its sin and its hate for each other, but to turn your hearts so gently to my Son Who loves you with the tenderest Heart. I am your Mother and I am forever by your side and walk with you. I watch you. I guard you. I want to lead you ever closer to the Heart of my beloved Son.

Do not ever worry for we are so close to you with our Hearts filled with such love. Times are so tough now. You must come to us so We can fill your hearts with Our love. You will do so much work in this world for Us, but you must come to the Heart of my Son and let Him fill you. Every moment of your day be so fixed to Him. He is your beloved Savior, forever with you.

My precious little children, how I love each one of you so tenderly. I hold you so close to my Immaculate Heart. I call out to you: do not be influenced by this world that has turned to such sin. Pray the rosary every day. It is your weapon against the evil one. Turn your hearts to my Son, waiting for you.

I love you, my beloved ones. I am Mary, your Mother. Thank you for responding to this call.

                R. We pray you Mother
                    Hear our prayer

Song: See the eyes That Look at Mary

Song: Little Baby Hands and Feet

                Sing: Immaculate Mary

                Sing: Hail Holy Queen

                R. We pray for the Holy Ghost —
                    the Spouse of Mary to
                        help us —

                    "Behold, your Mother"

                God called the Apostles —

We are to give ourselves in our vocation
                    to Mary —

                Religious and priests are called
                    to be celibate —
                    Mary was a Virgin
This gift of oneself to Mary should
be a gift of love, in
Discipline, as the spouse of Jesus,
one gives to God in their vocation —
an honor to give oneself completely to God,
unreservedly and with the love God wants.
Mary was the Virginal Mother —
Living in celibacy for the sake of the Kingdom of God.

Genesis 3: 15

    I shall put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring and hers;
    it will bruise your head
and you will strike its heel.'

Revelation 12: 1

Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman, robed with the sun, standing on the moon, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

                R. We should see clearly how Jesus treated
women, how God called Mary, the
Mother of Jesus and how God gives
a special role to women —

religious women, as women of dignity, married
                        to Jesus

married women — still having union with
                        Jesus the Divine Bridegroom —
being faithful to their husband in
                            sickness and health

single women — married to Jesus in
a special vocation — as His
                        apostles and servants

An apostle is one who serves —

The devil wants people to turn in
                    sexually —
                    in self indulgence —
                    addictions —
                    anger —
                    jealousies —
                    isolation —
                    power over others unlawfully —
                    disobedience to God, and those
                        over them
                    egotism —

We see the generosity of Jesus
                    in taking flesh —
                    coming to this earth —
                    dying for us
                    in the resurrection and
                    the gift of Himself given
to us in the Sacraments —
His love given to us through
                        holy others living in Him

Jesus and Mary are our models
The New Adam, the New Eve
We see ourselves as reaching others
in love in the Church —

Ephesians 5: 29

A man never hates his own body, but he feeds it and looks after it; and that is the way Christ treats the Church,

                R. We live as one giving love to
                    the world —
                    living in harmony and the
                    order God wants
not rebelling against God's rule —

We see Mary as the Mother of holiness —
                    Living the Father's will —
Perfect handmaid of the Lord —

The Church is to be striving
more and more for purity —
bringing forth fruit for the Kingdom
living more and more holy and untainted

As a womb bursting with children
living as God desires — increasing
and multiplying fruit for the Kingdom —

                The Church
                The Individual Christian
and The world in the state of becoming —

We in Shepherds of Christ are called to help
                    renew the Church and World

                Mary stood beneath the cross
                    of Jesus —

Mary stands at the foot of
                    the altar —

                The sacrifice one in her
                    maternal heart —

Grace pouring out to the troubled
world by Mary's powerful intercession —

Mary is Mother of God —

                Sing: Oh Holy Mary —

                Mary stands out in her
role as Mother of the Church and
                    Virgin

She is the singular vessel —

Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Queen of families,
Queen of peace,

Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, spare us, O Lord.
Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, graciously hear us, O Lord.
Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: Grant, we beseech You, O Lord God, that we Your servants may enjoy perpetual health of mind and body and, by the glorious intercession of the blessed Mary, ever virgin, be delivered from present sorrow, and obtain eternal joy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

We fly to your patronage, O holy Mother of God. Despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

                R. Mary is pure gift —
                    given from God

Mary is fairest of the fair —

                Mary is intimately united
                    with Jesus and

                Mary is intimately united
                    to the Church

                The incarnation goes on in
                    us

From Tell My People by Fr. Edward J. Carter

The Holy Spirit

Jesus: "My beloved friend, tell My people to pray daily to the Holy Spirit. They are to pray for an increase in His gifts. My people must realize that the Holy Spirit comes to transform them. The Spirit desires to transform you more and more according to My image. Those who are docile to His touch become increasingly shaped in My likeness. He performs this marvel within Mary's Immaculate Heart. The more one dwells in My Mother's Heart, the more active are the workings of the Spirit. The Spirit leads Mary to place you within My own Heart. In both Our Hearts, then, your transformation continues. The more you are formed after My own Heart, the more I lead you to the bosom of My Father. Tell My people all this. Tell them to pray daily for a greater appreciation of these wondrous gifts. I am Lord and Master. All who come to My Heart will be on fire to receive the gifts of the Spirit in ever greater measure! I love and bless My people!"

Reflection: The Holy Spirit is given to us to fashion us ever more according to the likeness of Jesus. And the more we are like Jesus, the more Jesus leads us to the Father. Do we, each day, pray to the Holy Spirit to be more open to His transforming influence? Do we strive each day to grow in union with Mary? The greater our union with our Mother, the spouse of the Holy Spirit, the greater is the transforming action of the Holy Spirit within us.

The Theology of Consecration

    A. Boussard gives an extremely fine and concise sketch of the theology of consecration:

"By the Incarnation, in and of itself, the Humanity of Jesus is consecrated, so that in becoming Man, Jesus is ipso facto constituted Savior, Prophet, King, Priest, and Victim of the One Sacrifice that was to save the world. He is the ‘Anointed’, par excellence, the ‘Christ’ totally belonging to God, His Humanity being that of the Word and indwelled by the Holy Spirit. When, by a free act of His human will, He accepts what He is, doing what He was sent to do, He can say that He consecrates ‘Himself’. In Christ, therefore, what might be called His ‘subjective’ consecration is a perfect response to the ‘objective’ consecration produced in His Humanity through the Incarnation.

"And what Christ does brings with it a ‘consecration’ for His disciples, a very special belonging to God, since He imparts to them His own life precisely by making them participate in His own consecration.

"Through Baptism Christians also are consecrated and ‘anointed’ by the power of the Spirit. They share, in their measure, in the essential consecration of Christ, in His character of King, Priest, and Prophet (cf. 1 Peter 2:9; 7 Peter 1:3-4; Rev. 5:9, etc.). With Christ and through Christ, they are ‘ordered’ to the glory of God and the salvation of the world. They do not belong to themselves. They belong to Christ the Lord, who imparts His own life to them…

"The vocation of those who have been baptized is to ‘live’ this consecration by a voluntary adherence—and one that is as perfect as possible—to what it has made of them. Living as ‘children of God’, they fulfill subjectively their objective consecration; like Jesus, they consecrate themselves. This is the deeper meaning of vows and baptismal promises, together with the actual way of life corresponding to them. The baptismal consecration is the fundamental one, constitutive of the Christian. All consecrations which come after it presuppose and are rooted in it…"55

The Holy Spirit and Mary

The late Archbishop Luis M. Martinez of Mexico strikingly speaks of the ongoing cooperation of Mary with the Holy Spirit regarding the reproduction of Jesus within us: "Christian life is the reproduction of Jesus in souls…

"Now, how will this mystical reproduction be brought about in souls? In the same way in which Jesus was brought into the world, for God gives a wonderful mark of unity to all His works. Divine acts have a wealth of variety because they are the work of omnipotence; nevertheless, a most perfect unity always shines forth from them because they are the fruit of wisdom; and this divine contrast of unity and variety stamps the works of God with sublime and unutterable beauty.

"In His miraculous birth, Jesus was the fruit of heaven and earth…The Holy Spirit conveyed the divine fruitfulness of the Father to Mary, and this virginal soul brought forth in an ineffable manner our most loving Savior, the divine Seed, as the prophets called Him…

"That is the way He is reproduced in souls. He is always the fruit of heaven and earth.

"Two artisans must concur in the work that is at once God’s masterpiece and humanity’s supreme product: the Holy Spirit and the most holy Virgin Mary. Two sanctifiers are necessary to souls, the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, for they are the only ones who can reproduce Christ.

"Undoubtedly, the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary sanctify us in different ways. The first is the Sanctifier by essence: because He is God, who is infinite sanctity; because He is the personal Love that completes, so to speak, the sanctity of God, consummating His life and His unity, and it belongs to Him to communicate to souls the mystery of that sanctity. The Virgin Mary, for her part, is the co-operator, the indispensable instrument in and by God’s design. From Mary’s maternal relation to the human body of Christ is derived her relation to His Mystical Body which is being formed through all the centuries until the end of time, when it will be lifted up to the heavens, beautiful, splendid, complete, and glorious.

"These two, then, the Holy Spirit and Mary, are the indispensable sanctifiers of souls. Any saint in heaven can co-operate in the sanctification of a soul, but his co-operation is not necessary, not profound, not constant; while the co-operation of these two artisans of Jesus of whom we have been speaking is so necessary that without it souls are not sanctified (and this by the actual design of Providence), and so intimate that it reaches to the very depth of our soul. For the Holy Spirit pours charity into our heart, makes a habitation of our soul, and directs our spiritual life by means of His gifts. The Virgin Mary has the efficacious influence of Mediatrix in the most profound and delicate operations of grace in our souls. And, finally, the action of the Holy Spirit and the co-operation of the most holy Virgin Mary are constant; without them, not one single character of Jesus would be traced on our souls, no virtue grown, no gift be developed, no grace increased, no bond of union with God be strengthened in the rich flowering of the spiritual life.

"Such is the place that the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary have in the order of sanctification. Therefore, Christian piety should put these two artisans of Christ in their true place, making devotion to them something necessary, profound, and constant."14

From August 9, 2000

Oh, there is not one so fair as thee, my beloved Mother Mary.

Of all the maidens that God could have chosen it was you, oh shining Star of Heaven.

Oh Mary, Mother of us all.

She doth appear as a wonder so fair indeed,

A permanent sign of God's love.
      A Woman clothed in gold.
One that glistens with the radiance of a golden tone,

Her beauty dancing in the sunlit hours of every day.

In morning splendor, in dancing light at noon day as the sun glistens on her rainbow glow and at night she has appeared on special dates in golden splendor and light.

Would you quote the Scripture for Mary so fair.

"Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman, robed with the sun, standing on the moon, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant, and in labour, crying aloud in the pangs of childbirth." (Revelation 12: 1-2)

Would you see her as she appeared in little villages in the 20th century, tucked in hills and out of the way places.

If you missed these enormous signs from heaven, of one so fair, she appears there clothed in the golden sun of the day, reflecting her radiant beauty painted by the hand of the Father. She is His chosen maiden so fair.

She appears daily, she is there by day and beneath the black shadows of night, she does not slumber, but calls to her children of light to come through her golden doorway and let the light of Christ shine in their souls.

She appears one so fair, by day and sometimes by night clothed in radiance and golden, her garment hemmed with glistening sunlight. She once appeared to a few and her visits fleeting in remotest places, she remains a Woman Clothed with the Sun, the sun dancing on her garments of rainbow color on a busy, busy corner for all to see, in the state of the sun, sunny Florida. She is a Woman painted by the brush of God.

And do you know the wonder of one who calls the children far and wide, to hear the voice of her Son, Jesus, Chief Shepherd of the Flock.

Mary, the heavenly maiden, to call them home to His Heart.

Oh, of one so fair, do we not boast and praise our God and thank Him for such a wonder.

Oh, to Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, we cry, help us to do what you asked for at Fatima and help us in our mission of telling the world of your Son's desire to spread His Movement so men will be Shepherds of Christ.

Father Carter's last homily in China, Indiana

We notice that the Church in Her liturgy for the celebration of the birthday, the Birth of Mary, immediately puts her with Jesus:

"She will give birth to a son and you must name him Jesus, because he is the one who is to save his people from their sins." (Mt 1:21) – words from today's Gospel.

And so the Church reminds us that Mary was born for the sake of Jesus. Again, in celebrating her birth, the Church links her very, very directly with Jesus. Yes, this is the reason for her birth: to be Mother of Jesus, and in doing that, everything else about her takes its proper place.

And just as Mary was dedicated entirely to Jesus and to His cause, we in giving her a birthday present of the highest value can only promise her, "Mary, as you were completely dedicated to Jesus, help me be completely dedicated to Him. You were His first and perfect disciple. Teach me to imitate you in the putting on of Christ."

Guiding Light - Steadfast to the Son
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle A of the Liturgical Year
$ 10.00 plus postage

Guiding Light homily series - Steadfast to the Son - Cycle A — The sunflower is a great example of how we should be steadfastly guided by light. What a powerful thought that this exceptional plant is not stuck in one pose day in and day out, yet adaptable and magnetized to the sun. We feel the same about our Son. Our heads turns to face Christ as each day presents its challenges to find light. We join together like plants in a field and soak up the Son through the pulpit. We are a warm circle of strength using the wind of our breath to carry our priests' words, Christ's words, to new rich soil. $15

Guiding Light - Feed My Soul
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle C of the Liturgical Year
$ 10.00 plus postage

Guiding Light - Feed My Soul - Cycle C — In a world rapidly advancing and encouraging personal gain, we are faced with modern problems. There is a challenge to find time in our busy schedules for Sunday Mass or a family meal. We are able to research, shop, bank and even work without hearing one human voice. It is no wonder that we may often feel disconnected and famished at our week's end. In Fr. Joe's third book of homilies from Cycle C, we are reminded of the charity that Christ intended us to show each other. We have a calling to turn the other cheek and be the Good Samaritan to others. We are rewarded with the Father's kingdom and love when we are not worthy. We are not left alone or hungry. $15

Guiding Light - Focusing on the Word
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle B of the Liturgical Year
$ 10.00 plus postage

Guiding Light - Focusing on the Word - Cycle B — At times we may feel that our path to Christ is a bit "out of focus". Like the disciples in the Book of Mark, this ordinary life clouds our vision of Christ's Divinity. We may doubt the practicality or possibility of applying His teachings and example to our modern life. Cycle B's homilies are a "guiding light" to help us realize Jesus' Messianic greatness and His promise of better things to come. $15

Guiding Light - The Word Alive in Our Hearts

Priestly Newsletter - 2000 #1 - CD. - Christ is Our Strength - Fr. Edward Carter, S.J. read it the year he died. It is so beautiful. "This brief passage contains one of the greatest lessons of the spiritual life. As we progress along our spiritual journey, we become increasingly aware of how weak we are in our-selves, but how strong we are in Christ. To experience our weakness involves suffering. The degree and kind of suffering can vary. The suffering can include the experience of the classical dark night of the spirit as described by St. John of the Cross. One of the main purposes of the dark night is to make a person keenly aware of his or her helplessness without God." quote by Fr. Carter from the newsletter $10

Priestly Newsletter - 2000 #2 - CD. - Suffering: A Source of Life - Fr. Edward Carter, S.J. read it the year he died. Fr. Carter knew suffering that year. His voice is so powerful as he read each Newsletter from his heart and soul. "Every man has his own share in the redemption. Each one is also called to share in that suffering through which the redemption was accomplished. He is called to share in that suffering through which all human suffering has also been redeemed. In bringing about the redemption through suffering, Christ has also raised human suffering to the level of the redemption. Thus each man in his suffering can also become a sharer in the redemptive suffering of Christ..." quote by Fr. Carter from the newsletter $10
