Here are a few letters that we received
in response to Father Carter's
Priestly Newsletter Book 2.
Dear Ones in Christ,
Peace and Health to you all.
I am happy to assure you all that I have
received the precious books that you have so generously sent to
us. I have distributed to the priests of ____ diocese free
of charge. I only ask them to thank you all and offer a Mass
on every First Friday of the month. The only thing we can return
I pray to the good Lord to love, bless and
reward you all for your awful charity, generosity and fraternal
I am a retired bishop now. But I still go
around to see my old and new catholics. From 18 to 28 of April,
I went to ____ and ____ borders to baptize and confirm. The
four priests baptized about 600 persons while I confirmed about
450 persons. There are many more ___ pagan villages want to
become catholics. Please pray for them and for me too. Thank you.
With prayerful wishes and God bless you
and your wonderful works for the greater glory of God and
salvation of souls.
Yours in our Lord and Lady,
April 25, 2002
Dear Fr. John,
Thank you very much for your kind letters dated April 7 and 16 last together with the many enclosures concerning initiatives started by Fr. Edward J. Carter.
I am pleased to inform you that the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary is widespread in this Archdiocese, as also the Divine Mercy devotion. In fact, our Archdiocese has been solemnly consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on August 15, 1997, Feast of Our Lady's Assumption and the 50th Anniversary of _____'s independence. This consecration is renewed every year in all our parishes. I do it officially in our Cathedral. Besides, all families are encouraged to consecrate themselves to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and this year we are going to make a special drive so that the image of the Sacred Heart can be enthroned in those homes where it is still not done in our Archdiocese.
It might interest you to know that in the 80 of the 113 parishes in this Archdiocese, we have daily adoration to the Blessed Sacrament from early morning till late in the evening. The practice of having all night adoration in parishes once a month is growing steadily.
I was deeply impressed by the photographs you sent me of the image of Our Blessed Mother in the Church of Our Lady of Clearwater. It is touching to note the tender love and concern of our Heavenly Queen.
I recommend the Archdiocese of _____ and my pastoral ministry to your special prayers. Thank you very much in anticipation. Rest assured of a regular memento at Holy Mass.
With cordial regards and sincere good wishes, I remain
Yours fraternally in Corde Mariae Cardinal _________

Dear Mr. Weickert;
Thank you for sending the books and materials by Father Edward Carter. He was a great apostle of priestly spirituality and his voice is sorely needed today.

Dear Mr. Weickert,
Thank you very much for the copy of Father Edward J. Carter, S.J.'s book, Shepherds of Christ, Spirituality Newsletters 2, which arrived here in Rome recently. Dear Father Ed,
Finally, finally I have someone who can

Christ newsletter. He is a 3rd year seminarian from
Florida named _______. You can write to
him at this address — he will be back from vacation
The newsletter continues to improve — our men

North American College
Dear Father Carter,
For years I have received Shepherds of Christ Newsletter; I do not know who put me on your mailing list, but I’m grateful to you both. Since I first began to receive the newsletter I have been assigned as the Director of Formation Advising for the Pontifical North American College in Rome.
I would like to know if it would be possible to make a bulk order so that our seminarians could benefit from the newsletter as well. I will make sure they are distributed to our seminarians. At present we have about 200 seminarians and student priests on our campus, all eager for good spiritual reading!
Please let me know if we can make an arrangement for the delivery of the newsletter here at the college.
Please keep our faculty and seminarians in your prayers.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Pontifical North American College
I give my heart to Jesus and Mary with you in love. Fr. Carter, S.J. wrote the Priestly Newsletter and circulated it to over 75,000 priests on a regular basis while living. He began in 1994 and started with all of the priests in the
right away, about 45,000. He continued this newsletter for the 6 years of his life. Since his death, we have followed his requests sending the enclosed Priestly Newsletter Book II and some of the additional Newsletters he instructed us to send to the priests, Bishops and Cardinals. United States
Fr. Carter taught at
about 33 years. He authored 18 books on the spiritual life. He had a doctorate in theology. He even sent about 12 issues of the translated Newsletter to Spanish speaking priests. Xavier University
Click on for the book of Priestly Newsletters, Book II, from September, 1996 to December 1999. We have gotten so very many letters from Bishops, Archbishops, Cardinals and the Pope thanking us for the Priestly Newsletter Book II. In these letters they thanked us for our Movement, a movement of prayer, praying for the Priests, the Church and the world.
We want to send the book to the retired Bishops. It has been packaged up and ready to go for several months, we have no money for postage.
The book is to lead the priest into a deeper love union with Father, Son and Holy Spirit, a deeper love of their priesthood and the Church, and in consecrating their hearts to Jesus and Mary.
Fr. Carter a Jesuit used the writings of Pope John Paul II and other popes, and the writings of the saints, the scriptures, Encyclicals of the Church, Church documents and many other theological writers in his writings in the Newsletter. Please review the enclosed book and help us get it to the retired Bishops as Fr. Carter requested we do. His mission was to pray for the priests, but primarily to send these Newsletters he published.
Thank you for your help.
Shepherds of Christ
P.S. We pray hourly for the priests, united with people all over the world and at our centers at 6:20 the red book enclosed, translated in 5 languages with the Imprimatur. We have operated in the past on donations. It has been difficult sending the Priestly Newsletter because of funds.
Any additional funds you allocate to us could be used for the purpose of reaching priests, Bishops and Cardinals with the prayer manual, the Priestly Newsletter Book I or the Priestly Newsletters Fr. Carter requested be published after his death. We wish to compile these in a small book and send them to the Bishops, but do not have the funds.

I love the souls so very much. Today is all souls
day, but my life is lived to pray for the souls in
purgatory and on earth.
Oh God it is this love for souls that makes me almost
cry every time I pray because I want so deeply to help all
the souls I can - to go to heaven. Oh God, I love Thee so
much. I thank You for Your gifts given to me, I thank
You for Your life. My every breath is lived to have
deeper union with You here on earth and to be united to
You for all eternity.
Oh my God I love Thee so much to speak of it, to
be able to receive You in Holy Communion, to
go to Church and be with You before the
tabernacle, makes me cry. It is love,
deep love I have for Him, my joy is in
this, to know Him, to love Him, to
serve Him, I want for nothing, but to be
as God wants me to be helping souls and
growing in a deep love union with Him
Oh how can we see the beauty now of the
fall days and the blue skies with the
autumn leaves pasted up against it and
not gasp at the greatness of God.
Messenger: He gives us so very, very much.
Oh, God is real and this is truth that there is
Oh God please help us to learn to trust
you and love you more every day.
One of my children planned something very special
and we went to a place we took them when they
were little and when I was there I remembered
them ordering from the kiddie menu and my
heart was filled with joy from the memory, but
I didn't think they remembered like I did,
I remembered it so vividly and my heart
was so filled with emotion for the once little
children so big and some married with children
of their own.
And I write to you as Our Lord directed me for
God knows everything about us. God knows
our hearts more than we know our own heart and
we must pray to Him for light to know His
will, because just like my children couldn't
remember all I did (I even remembered what
they ordered and what they said) we just
don't know what God knows.
God said the very hairs of our head are
numbered. It is even more than this, He knows
everything. My love grows deeper for Him every
day, I long for Him, my every thought is united
to Him, my heart longing to reach the earth
with the message He has delivered to me and
to Fr. Carter. To tell the world how very
deeply He wants to be united to His
precious souls. To tell the world how
we are all one family and He loves us
so much and wants us to honor God
as little children doing God's will
at every moment.
I just want to cry to write this for
I so deeply want to express the vision
of my heart and my deep emotion I feel because
I love God and the people of this earth
so much and yet I cannot express myself,
it is the grace He gives when someone
reads this, that will make the difference,
I write as He has asked me to do after communion
on this all souls day.
The depth of love I feel for all souls and
God's goodness to me I cannot express. God
is all good and all powerful and great,
merciful and ... God is love ... God is in
my heart every second and I feel my every
cell and my life is His and I long
to be more deeply united to Him, to know
Him more, to love Him more, to learn to
trust in Him more oh
the mountain top it is found in Him
what a gift God gives us in the Eucharist
and in the priest and in the Church
Oh my God, my heart longs for Thee and I
am so grateful so grateful for
Your gifts to me.

I shall rescue them from wherever they have been scattered on the day of clouds and darkness. I shall bring them back from the peoples where they are; I shall gather them back from the countries and bring them back to their own land. I shall pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the inhabited parts of the country. I shall feed them in good pasturage; the highest mountains of Israel will be their grazing ground. There they will rest in good grazing grounds; they will browse in rich pastures on the mountains of Israel. I myself shall pasture my sheep, I myself shall give them rest–declares the Lord Yahweh. I shall look for the lost one, bring back the stray, bandage the injured and make the sick strong. I shall watch over the fat and healthy. I shall be a true shepherd to them."
