The church needs to have the stucco replaced

and also the community building.

It is about $38,000 to repair it.

People pray in the church 24 hours a day.

We have prayed in there for 11 years.

The archdiocese gave the church to us

for this purpose for a small price.

Can you help us?

                Discernment of Spirits

                        Prayer from St. Ignatius

Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labor and not to ask for any reward,
Save that of knowing
that I am doing your will.

Prayer of St Ignatius

Soul of Christ, sanctify me
Body of Christ, save me
Blood of Christ, inebriate me
Water from the side of Christ wash me
Passion of Christ, strengthen me
O good Jesus, hear me
Within Thy wounds hide me
Permit me not to be separated from Thee
From the wicked foe defend me
at the hour of my death call me
and bid me come to Thee
That with Thy saints I may praise Thee
For ever and ever. Amen.

St. Ignatius his leg was shattered
                    by a cannon ball —

There is a difference in the spirits
There is the Movement of the spirits
                    when we do a retreat

The Holy Spirit leads us to knowing
                    God's will —

                    The Holy Spirit counsels us

The Holy Spirit leads us to greater happiness

The Holy Spirit leads us to greater holiness

The evil spirit wants to take us away
                    from God's will —
The evil spirit wants us sad —
                        turned inward, selfish,
                        sinning

The Holy Spirit leads us to peace and
                    joy even in suffering

In our lives, especially in prayer
we must discern the spirits —

As the Holy Spirit leads us to holiness —
the evil spirits wants us to be
                    rebelling against God's will —

Fr. Carter did an examine twice a
                    day

                In that we stop —
                    10 minutes twice —

We take a check and see if we
                        are following the Holy Spirit
who is leading us to know
and do God's will and act in
                        love —

Or are we listening to the evil spirit —
who wants us bowed down —
                    negative —
                    complaining —
                    sad —
looking for the dark side —
                    being selfish —
                    being unloving —
                    isolated against God's will —
                    turning inward

Today is the last day of this retreat
                    We celebrate —
                    the resurrection —
                    Christ has risen — alleluia

                Jesus died and Jesus has
                    risen —

He dropped the burial cloths —
                The stone was taken away
Jesus rose from the dead —

                Think of that
Jesus was put to death —
                A brutal death —
                Buried

                LOCKED IN A TOMB

                and He rose

We believe as St. Ignatius He appeared
                    first to His Mother —

The victory over the enemies of God —

The enemies put Jesus to death

                Jesus rose

The victory has been won —

                From His pierced Heart comes
                    Blood and water —

                Water for Baptism
                Blood for the Eucharist

                Jesus then appeared to them,
                    His Apostles for 40 days
                    after His resurrection —

                Jesus formed the community —

                Jesus worked with them —

Jesus called Peter to be head of
                    the Church —

Matthew 16: 18

So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my community. And the gates of the underworld can never overpower it.

                Building the community

The Glorious Mysteries

                Resurrection

                (1)

Acts 2: 42-47

These remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles, to the brotherhood, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers.

And everyone was filled with awe; the apostles worked many signs and miracles

And all who shared the faith owned everything in common; they sold their goods and possessions and distributed the proceeds among themselves according to what each one needed.

Each day, with one heart, they regularly went to the Temple but met in their houses for the breaking of bread; they shared their food gladly and generously; they praised God and were looked up to by everyone. Day by day the Lord added to their community those destined to be saved.

                (2)

John 20: 19-23

In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, 'Peace be with you,' and, after saying this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy at seeing the Lord, and he said to them again, 'Peace be with you.

'As the Father sent me,
so am I sending you.'

After saying this he breathed on them and said:

Receive the Holy Spirit.
If you forgive anyone's sins,
they are forgiven;
if you retain anyone's sins,
they are retained.

                (3)

John 20: 24-31

Thomas, called the Twin, who was one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, 'We have seen the Lord,' but he answered, 'Unless I can see the holes that the nails made in his hands and can put my finger into the holes they made, and unless I can put my hand into his side, I refuse to believe.' Eight days later the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. The doors were closed, but Jesus came in and stood among them. ‘Peace be with you,’ he said. Then he spoke to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here; look, here are my hands. Give me your hand; put it into my side. Do not be unbelieving any more but believe.’ Thomas replied, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him:

You believe because you can see me.
Blessed are those who have not seen
        and yet believe.

There were many other signs that Jesus worked in the sight of the disciples, but they are not recorded in this book. These are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing this you may have life through his name.

                (4)

Acts 2: 14

Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and addressed them in a loud voice:

‘Men of Judaea, and all you who live in Jerusalem, make no mistake about this, but listen carefully to what I say.

                (5)

Acts 2: 22-23

‘Men of Israel, listen to what I am going to say: Jesus the Nazarene was a man commended to you by God by the miracles and portents and signs that God worked through him when he was among you, as you know. This man, who was put into your power by the deliberate intention and foreknowledge of God, you took and had crucified and killed by men outside the Law.

                (6)

1 Peter 1: 17 - 21

And if you address as Father him who judges without favouritism according to each individual’s deeds, live out the time of your exile here in reverent awe. For you know that the price of your ransom from the futile way of life handed down from your ancestors was paid, not in anything perishable like silver or gold, but in precious blood as of a blameless and spotless lamb, Christ. He was marked out before the world was made, and was revealed at the final point of time for your sake. Through him you now have faith in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory for this very purpose—that your faith and hope should be in God.

                (7) The journey to Emmaus
2 of Jesus' disciples were going to Emmaus
Jesus drew near to them and walked
                        with them —

                    Jesus interpreted to them what
referred to Him in the Scriptures —

                    They did not recognize Jesus
                        until the breaking of the
                        bread.

                (8)

Acts 2: 14

Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and addressed them in a loud voice:

‘Men of Judaea, and all you who live in Jerusalem, make no mistake about this, but listen carefully to what I say.

                (9)

Acts 2: 36-41

‘For this reason the whole House of Israel can be certain that the Lord and Christ whom God has made is this Jesus whom you crucified.’

Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘What are we to do, brothers?’ ‘You must repent,’ Peter answered, ‘and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise that was made is for you and your children, and for all those who are far away, for all those whom the Lord our God is calling to himself.’ He spoke to them for a long time using many other arguments, and he urged them, ‘Save yourselves from this perverse generation.’ They accepted what he said and were baptised. That very day about three thousand were added to their number.

                (10)

1 Peter 2: 20-25

but what glory is there in putting up with a beating after you have done something wrong? The merit in the sight of God is in putting up with it patiently when you are punished for doing your duty.

This, in fact, is what you were called to do, because Christ suffered for you and left an example for you to follow in his steps. He had done nothing wrong, and had spoken no deceit. He was insulted and did not retaliate with insults; when he was suffering he made no threats but put his trust in the upright judge. He was bearing our sins in his own body on the cross, so that we might die to our sins and live for uprightness; through his bruises you have been healed. You had gone astray like sheep but now you have returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.

                The Ascension

                (1)

1 Peter 2: 4-9

He is the living stone, rejected by human beings but chosen by God and precious to him; set yourselves close to him so that you, too, may be living stones making a spiritual house as a holy priesthood to offer the spiritual sacrifices made acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. As scripture says: Now I am laying a stone in Zion, a chosen, precious cornerstone and no one who relies on this will be brought to disgrace. To you believers it brings honour. But for unbelievers, it is rather a stone which the builders rejected that became a cornerstone, a stumbling stone, a rock to trip people up. They stumble over it because they do not believe in the Word; it was the fate in store for them.

But you are a chosen race, a kingdom of priests, a holy nation, a people to be a personal possession to sing the praises of God who called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

                (2)

John 14: 1-12

Do not let your hearts be troubled.
You trust in God, trust also in me.
In my Father’s house
    there are many places to live in;
otherwise I would have told you.
I am going now to prepare a place for you,
and after I have gone
    and prepared you a place,
I shall return to take you to myself,
so that you may be with me
where I am.
You know the way
to the place where I am going.

Thomas said, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’ Jesus said:

Jesus said: I am the Way; I am Truth and Life.
No one can come to the Father
    except through me.
If you know me,
you will know my Father too.
From this moment you know him
    and have seen him.

Philip said, 'Lord, show us the Father and then we shall be satisfied.' Jesus said to him, 'Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me?

'Anyone who has seen me
    has seen the Father,
so how can you say,
    "Show us the Father"?

Do you not believe
that I am in the Father
and the Father is in me?
What I say to you
I do not speak of my own accord:
it is the Father, living in me,
    who is doing his works.
You must believe me when I say
that I am in the Father
    and the Father is in me;
or at least believe it
on the evidence of these works.
In all truth I tell you,
whoever believes in me
will perform the same works
    as I do myself,
and will perform even greater works,
because I am going to the Father.

                (3)

1 Peter 3: 15-18

Simply proclaim the Lord Christ holy in your hearts, and always have your answer ready for people who ask you the reason for the hope that you have. But give it with courtesy and respect and with a clear conscience, so that those who slander your good behaviour in Christ may be ashamed of their accusations. And if it is the will of God that you should suffer, it is better to suffer for doing right than for doing wrong.

Christ himself died once and for all for sins, the upright for the sake of the guilty, to lead us to God. In the body he was put to death, in the spirit he was raised to life,

                (4)

John 14: 15-21

If you love me,
       you will keep my commandments.
    I shall ask the Father,
and he will give you another Paraclete
to be with you for ever,
    the Spirit of truth
whom the world can never accept
    since it neither sees nor know him;
    but you know him,
because he is with you, he is in you.
    I shall not leave you orphans;
    I shall come to you.
    In a short time
      the world will no longer see me;
but you will see that I live
    and you also will live.
    On that day
you will know that I am in my Father
and you in me and I in you.
    Whoever holds to my commandments
    and keeps them
    is the one who loves me;
    and whoever loves me
will be loved by my Father,
    and I shall love him
    and reveal myself to him.'

                (5)

Acts 1: 1-11

In my earlier work, Theophilus, I dealt with everything Jesus had done and taught from the beginning until the day he gave his instructions to the apostles he had chosen through the Holy Spirit, and was taken up to heaven. He had shown himself alive to them after his Passion by many demonstrations: for forty days he had continued to appear to them and tell them about the kingdom of God. While at table with them, he had told them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for what the Father had promised. ‘It is’, he had said, ‘what you have heard me speak about: John baptised with water but, not many days from now, you are going to be baptised with the Holy Spirit.’

Now having met together, they asked him, ‘Lord, has the time come for you to restore the kingdom to Israel?’ He replied, ‘It is not for you to know times or dates that the Father has decided by his own authority, but you will receive the power of the Holy Spirit which will come on you, and then you will be my witnesses not only in Jerusalem but throughout Judaea and Samaria, and indeed to earth’s remotest end.’
As he said this he was lifted up while they looked on, and a cloud took him from their sight. They were still staring into the sky as he went, when suddenly two men in white were standing beside them, and they said, ‘Why are you Galileans standing here looking into the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will come back in the same way as you have seen him go to heaven.’

                (6)

Ephesians 1: 17-23

May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give you a spirit of wisdom and perception of what is revealed, to bring you to full knowledge of him. May he enlighten the eyes of your mind so that you can see what hope his call holds for you, how rich is the glory of the heritage he offers among his holy people, and how extraordinarily great is the power that he has exercised for us believers; this accords with the strength of his power at work in Christ, the power which he exercised in raising him from the dead and enthroning him at his right hand, in heaven, far above every principality, ruling force, power or sovereignty, or any other name that can be named, not only in this age but also in the age to come. He has put all things under his feet, and made him, as he is above all things, the head of the Church; which is his Body, the fullness of him who is filled, all in all.

                (7)

Matthew 28: 16-20

Meanwhile the eleven disciples set out for Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had arranged to meet them. When they saw him they fell down before him, though some hesitated. Jesus came up and spoke to them. He said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And look, I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.'

                (8)

Acts 1: 12-14

So from the Mount of Olives, as it is called, they went back to Jerusalem, a short distance away, no more than a Sabbath walk; and when they reached the city they went to the upper room where they were staying; there were Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Jude son of James. With one heart all these joined constantly in prayer, together with some women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

                (9)

1 Peter 4: 13-16

but in so far as you share in the sufferings of Christ, be glad, so that you may enjoy a much greater gladness when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for bearing Christ’s name, blessed are you, for on you rests the Spirit of God, the Spirit of glory. None of you should ever deserve to suffer for being a murderer, a thief, a criminal or an informer; but if any one of you should suffer for being a Christian, then there must be no shame but thanksgiving to God for bearing this name.

                (10)

John 17: 1-11

After saying this, Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said:

   Father, the hour has come:
   glorify your Son
   so that your Son may glorify you;
so that, just as you have given him
      power over all humanity,
   he may give eternal life
to all those you have entrusted to him.
   And eternal life is this:
   to know you,
   the only true God,
and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
I have glorified you on earth
   by finishing the work
that you gave me to do.
   Now, Father, glorify me
with that glory I had with you
   before ever the world existed.
   I have revealed your name
to those whom you took from the world
      to give me.
   They were yours
and you gave them to me,
and they have kept your word.
Now at last they have recognised
that all you have given me
      comes from you
   for I have given them
the teaching you gave to me,
and they have indeed accepted it
   and know for certain
      that I came from you,
   and have believed
that it was you who sent me.
It is for them that I pray.
I am not praying for the world
but for those you have given me,
   because they belong to you.
   All I have is yours
and all you have is mine,
and in them I am glorified.
I am no longer in the world,
but they are in the world,
and I am coming to you.
   Holy Father,
keep those you have given me
      true to your name,
so that they may be one like us.

Acts 2: 1-11

When Pentecost day came round, they had all met together, when suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind which filled the entire house in which they were sitting; and there appeared to them tongues as of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages as the Spirit gave them power to express themselves.

Now there were devout men living in Jerusalem from every nation under heaven, and at this sound they all assembled, and each one was bewildered to hear these men speaking his own language. They were amazed and astonished. ‘Surely,’ they said, ‘all these men speaking are Galileans? How does it happen that each of us hears them in his own native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; people from Mesopotamia, Judaea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya round Cyrene; residents of Rome—Jews and proselytes alike—Cretans and Arabs, we hear them preaching in our own language about the marvels of God.’

                (6)

1 Corinthians 12: 3-7

Because of that, I want to make it quite clear to you that no one who says ‘A curse on Jesus’ can be speaking in the Spirit of God, and nobody is able to say, ‘Jesus is Lord’ except in the Holy Spirit.

There are many different gifts, but it is always the same Spirit; there are many different ways of serving, but it is always the same Lord. There are many different forms of activity, but in everybody it is the same God who is at work in them all. The particular manifestation of the Spirit granted to each one is to be used for the general good.

                (7)

1 Corinthians 12: 12-13

For as with the human body which is a unity although it has many parts—all the parts of the body, though many, still making up one single body—so it is with Christ. We were baptised into one body in a single Spirit, Jews as well as Greeks, slaves as well as free men, and we were all given the same Spirit to drink.

If you forgive anyone's sins,
they are forgiven;
if you retain anyone's sins,
they are retained.

                (10) Sing: Come Holy Ghost Fill Our Hearts

Holy Spirit Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit, almighty Sanctifier, God of love, who filled the Virgin Mary with grace, who wonderfully changed the hearts of the apostles, who endowed all Your martyrs with miraculous courage, come and sanctify us. Enlighten our minds, strengthen our wills, purify our consciences, rectify our judgment, set our hearts on fire, and preserve us from the misfortunes of resisting Your inspirations. Amen.

Such love is this that Jesus rose —
                    Jesus ascended into heaven —
God the Holy Spirit descends on the
                        Apostles and the Virgin Mary

Dear God give us the grace to experience
the joy and peace of the
                    Resurrected Lord.

So much joy for this great victory!!

We want this spirit of joy —

We want to think of that resurrected
                    morning —

The beauty of the sun — the Light of God

With Trinity Sunday coming we think
of our deep love for Father,
                    Son and Holy Spirit —

We must ask to know more of the
                    glory of the resurrection —

Say the Creed — contemplate it

Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day he arose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven; sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. * I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Song: Your Presence Pervades My Soul

Jesus gives us Himself in the Holy Eucharist —
God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit wants this
                    personal friendship with us —

God wants us to love Him and reverence
                    Him and adore Him —

God wants us to love Him so deeply —

For all eternity if we go to heaven we
will be in this love with the
                    Holy Trinity —

                Road to Emmaus

Then Jesus appeared to them in the
                    upper room while they
                    were talking about the
                    resurrection —
                    and Jesus asked for something
to eat and He ate with them —
Jesus was not a ghost —
                    He ate with them —

                Jesus was there —

Jesus went in and out among them —
                    Jesus passed through doors —
a body like none we ever saw —
                    the glorified body of Jesus

                We see how Thomas doubted
                    Jesus appeared and let Thomas
                        touch His wounds

                Jesus was forming the community

                The Apostles after Jesus ascended
                    into heaven were waiting
                    the Holy Spirit —

Jesus wants this intimacy He speaks
of in the Blue Book writings

                This spousal union relationship
                    with Jesus.

St. Ignatius tells us God wants us
                    to be generous with our
                    gifts of helping to build
                    the Kingdom —

God has blessed us so much —
for His service and honor —

We were given gifts to share in love —
to work together to build the
                    Kingdom

                        Prayer from St. Ignatius

Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labor and not to ask for any reward,
Save that of knowing
that I am doing your will.

We want to share these gifts
                    because of the many blessings
God has given to us —

God calls us to love and to serve
                    the Divine Almighty God —

                God is our Master —

Jesus has given Himself to us

The Father has sent Jesus to us

                Sing: Take Lord Receive

                Look at a crucifix

1) "What have I done for Christ?"
2) "What am I doing for Christ?"
3) "What ought I to do for Christ?"

                Look at the big picture

Genesis 1:26-27

God said, 'Let us make man in our own image, in the likeness of ourselves, and let them be masters of the fish of the sea, the birds of heaven, the cattle, all the wild animals and all the creatures that creep along the ground.'

God created man in the image of himself,
in the image of God he created him,
male and female he created them.

                God gives us the universe
                God has created the creatures
                God is working now —
God is living and active today
God intends me to answer His
                    calling

Prayer for Union with Jesus

Come to me, Lord, and possess my soul. Come into my heart and permeate my soul. Help me to sit in silence with You and let You work in my heart.

I am Yours to possess. I am Yours to use. I want to be selfless and only exist in You. Help me to spoon out all that is me and be an empty vessel ready to be filled by You. Help me to die to myself and live only for You. Use me as You will. Let me never draw my attention back to myself. I only want to operate as You do, dwelling within me.

I am Yours, Lord. I want to have my life in You. I want to do the will of the Father. Give me the strength to put aside the world and let You operate my very being. Help me to act as You desire. Strengthen me against the distractions of the devil to take me from Your work.

When I worry, I have taken my focus off of You and placed it on myself. Help me not to give in to the promptings of others to change what in my heart You are making very clear to me. I worship You, I adore You and I love You. Come and dwell in me now.

Spiritual Reflections

... God wants the best for us. His love is eager-eager to draw us ever closer to Himself. His love for us is a transforming love. As we surrender to it more and more, this love accomplishes our ongoing conversion. It thrusts us forward to become more deeply Christian. God's love for us contains the absolute capacity to make us happy, to make us fulfilled persons, to make us what in the depths of our beings we really know we should be and want to be.

We can put obstacles in the way of God's transforming designs. We can say no to this love. We can refuse to be open to God's tender, loving touch. We can engage in a process of self-enclosedness. We can determine to map out our own path to happiness, forgetting that plans for happiness which exclude God are ultimately plans for experiencing frustration and emptiness.

At other times it is not so much selfishness which leads us to say no to God, it is rather fear. We hear God's voice calling us higher. We hear His voice asking something which seems very difficult. We hear His voice asking something we had not at all expected. Yes, we hear all this-and we draw back. We draw back because we are afraid. We refuse God because our fear focuses our attention on what we are rather than on what God is. We look too much at our own weakness, rather than at God's power which can transform our inadequacy into a mighty strength.

In all this Mary offers an example. Selfishness was totally foreign to her. She did not belong to herself. She belonged to God. She was not closed in upon herself. She was completely open to God. When God spoke, she listened. When God pointed the way, she followed. She realized that life is not a process a person masters by carefully mapping out one's own self-conceived plans of conquest, but a mystery to be gradually experienced by being open to God's personal and loving guidance.

Selfishness, then, did not close Mary off from God's call. Neither did fear. God asked her to assume a tremendous responsibility. He asked her to be the Mother of Jesus. Mary did not engage in a process of false humility and say that such a great role was above her. She did not say that she did not have the proper qualifications for this awesome mission. Briefly, she did not waste time looking at herself, making pleas that she was not worthy, telling the angel he had better go look for someone else. No, Mary did not look at herself. Her gaze was absorbed in God. She fully realized that whatever God asked of her, His grace would accomplish. She fully realized that although she herself had to cooperate, this work was much more God's than hers.

Mary's words, then, truly sum up what is the authentic Christian response at any point of life, in any kind of situation: "I am the handmaid of the Lord," said Mary, "let what you have said be done to me".

Matthew 5: 14-16

‘You are light for the world. A city built on a hill–top cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp–stand where it shines for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine in people’s sight, so that, seeing your good works, they may give praise to your Father in heaven.

Jesus taught by word and action. He talked to huge crowds, to small groups, to various individuals. He talked about love and friendship, about joy and suffering, about life and death. He had a message to spread, His Father's message, and He did not miss His opportunities. It was not enough for Him merely to talk about His Father's message. He was also constantly teaching by the total event of His life, death and resurrection. Not only His words, but also His actions spoke out loud and clear. He not only talked about the love we should have for one another. He incarnated this teaching in the laying down of His own life for the salvation of all. His words spoke eloquently of brotherly love. So also did His bloody and bruised body nailed to a cross. His words sounded so convincing. The way He went about living could also pierce the hardest heart.

                (6) From Shepherds of Christ Priestly Newsletter September/October 1997 - Spiritual Reflections continues

Jesus invites us to assist Him in the continuation of His teaching mission. The method of procedure remains the same; we, too, like Jesus before us, are to teach by both word and action. The opportunities for teaching by word are more numerous than we might expect. For it is not only bishops and priests and teachers of religious studies who teach by word. Parents, as they rear their children, have numerous opportunities to teach Jesus' message. Friends talk about all sorts of things. If one is sincerely Christian, his or her friend will eventually know.

                (7) From Shepherds of Christ Priestly Newsletter September/October 1997 - Spiritual Reflections continues

The opportunities to teach about Jesus by the way we act are even more numerous than are the occasions for variously speaking about the message of Jesus. People are looking at us. We cannot long hide the life-vision which thrusts us forward, which motivates so much of what we do. If we live according to the pleasure principle, this becomes evident. If we live according to the money principle, this also becomes manifest. If we are close followers and friends of Jesus, this too becomes clear to people. They will know by the way we work and play, by our attitude towards life and death, by our refusing to become bitter despite even great suffering, by the way we treat others, especially those who are poor, or ridiculed, or discriminated against, or passed over as unimportant and of little worth. If we are deeply Christian, Christ's way of thinking and doing will necessarily affect our own way of thinking and doing. We are called to project Jesus and His message through our own humanities. Either we do, or we don't. Either we seize the numerous and daily opportunities for helping to preach Jesus by the way we live, or we do not. Either we respond to Jesus' invitation to be a light for the world, or we do not. This invitation goes out to all, but to priests in a special way. Jesus, through Holy Orders, has given Himself to the priest in a most special way. If the priest, realizing Jesus' precious love for him as this unique priest-companion, surrenders to Christ, this gives Him special joy. For the priest, because of his special union with Jesus, can be a light to the world in a most extraordinary way.

                (8)

Romans 8: 18-27

In my estimation, all that we suffer in the present time is nothing in comparison with the glory which is destined to be disclosed for us, for the whole creation is waiting with eagerness for the children of God to be revealed. It was not for its own purposes that creation had frustration imposed on it, but for the purposes of him who imposed it—with the intention that the whole creation itself might be freed from its slavery to corruption and brought into the same glorious freedom as the children of God. We are well aware that the whole creation, until this time, has been groaning in labour pains. And not only that: we too, who have the first–fruits of the Spirit, even we are groaning inside ourselves, waiting with eagerness for our bodies to be set free. In hope, we already have salvation; in hope, not visibly present, or we should not be hoping—nobody goes on hoping for something which is already visible. But having this hope for what we cannot yet see, we are able to wait for it with persevering confidence.

And as well as this, the Spirit too comes to help us in our weakness, for, when we do not know how to pray properly, then the Spirit personally makes our petitions for us in groans that cannot be put into words; and he who can see into all hearts knows what the Spirit means because the prayers that the Spirit makes for God’s holy people are always in accordance with the mind of God.

Mary in Our Life

Here are words of Fr. Angelo Amato, S.D.B., professor of theology at the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome: "The maternal presence of Mary in our life is not a Catholic invention or an exaggeration of the popular piety, but a biblical reality found in the heart of the Trinitarian mystery of salvation…Mary is the creature chosen by God to become the Mother of His beloved Son. The presence of Mary in the mystery of Christ and of the Church is not therefore optional or cosmetic, but theological and soteriological…

"For this reason among Protestants, too, there exist today representative figures who are trying to recover the biblical figure of Mary, as well as the ecclesial tradition condensed, for example, in the four Marian dogmas. We mention, among others, authors like Henry Chavannes, John Macquarry with his recent book, ‘Mary for all Christians’, Ulrich Wickert…

"And today, more than ever, is valid the affirmation made by John H. Newman (1801-1890) in 1865: ‘Exactly those nations and lands that got rid of the devotion to the Mother of God, have lost faith in Christ’s divinity; while those lands which were faithful to Mary, have conserved Orthodoxy’."10

Live Our Lives In The Rosary. Experience Our Sufferings

Mary: My anguish I felt to watch them persecute my beloved Jesus! He Whom I loved so dearly, my own, very own Child and they stripped Him, beat Him, hated Him, tore His tender beautiful flesh, everything that they did,...

This was my beloved Son. My heart was torn in my chest, my sorrow so great! No yelling or other human expressions could capture the torments of my heart.

My little Baby, to watch such brutality DONE to my precious Child.

Do you know the torments of the heart?

Do you know the pain to behold such vileness done to your own child?

Pain in the heart, I know, I know His love for you, my dear children. I know what He suffered for you. Put yourself there during the Passion. Meditate on His suffering for love of you. Meditate on His love. This is love, to suffer as He did for you. It is so simple, He loved you to His very own death. This is what He would give for you this very day, my little ones. Go to Him and be alone with Him. Turn to Him, love Him. He waits for your love. Praise this good God Who loves you so much to shed His very own Blood for you. Oh children, be present to Him. Live His life, pray the rosary, meditate on His sufferings for you. This will draw you close to Our Hearts. Live Our lives in the rosary. Experience Our sufferings.

Love one another, do not give in to Satan. You cannot accomplish my Son’s tasks if you do not put your differences aside. You must love each other.

Go to Him in the Eucharist. Give your whole hearts to Him. Consecrate yourselves to Us. We will be ever with you, guiding your every step. I am the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I love you as the most loving Mother. Come and find refuge in Our Hearts. We will protect you from the scorching sun. We will hold tight to you and you will never lose your peace.

Jesus: Oh My child, peace I give to you, not as the world gives you peace, but as only I can give you peace. Come and let Me hold you in My Heart, deeply placed there by My loving Mother. You will find your joy inside of My Heart.

I am the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I want to be united to you, My little babies. Become as the baby at the breast, total submission, total trust, total yielding to Our ways. Yield to Me. My time is perfect. My ways are set. Yield to Me and I will handle your cares. I love you My sweet ones. Yield. Pray constantly, consecrate yourselves to My Heart and My Mother’s heart...

2. R. Mary always complied with the Will of the Father. Jesus always complied with the Will of the Father. In looking at their lives we see how they always lived according to the Father's Will. It is in living according to His Will that our true joy and happiness lie.

                (7) From the Red Rosary Book - March 30, 1995 - Annunciation

6. R. Do we realize how God wants to be one with us? The more we become united to Him, the more His presence radiates from within us and shines to those that we come in contact with. God is so good that He sent to this world His only begotten Son through the Virgin Mary. He sent His Son because He loves us and He yearns and longs and thirsts for us to be ever closer to Him. It is in His presence within us that we will light up this world. It is in our oneness with Him that we will shine as little lights to the rest of the world.

                (8) From the Red Rosary Book - March 30, 1995 - Annunciation

8. R. God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son into this world, incarnate in the womb of the Virgin Mary. The Word became flesh! God took on flesh!

                (9) From the Red Rosary Book - March 30, 1995 - Annunciation

9. R. As Mary contained the presence of the Almighty God, as He grew within her womb, His Sacred Heart was formed in her womb through the power of the Holy Spirit. He remains with us this day in the sanctuary of the tabernacle. His same presence is there. God, in His divinity and humanity, truly present in the tabernacle, longing for us to come and to share our lives and our time with Him.

                (10) From the Red Rosary Book - March 30, 1995 - Annunciation

10. R. I see before me so clearly the Virgin Mary as she carried the child within her womb. It seems beautiful to think of Mary carrying the child Jesus within her, but the risen Lord is with us this very day! He remains with us in greatest love but His Heart is wounded by the indifference and the neglect of His chosen souls, the ones He loves so dearly, that totally neglect Him and treat Him so coldly.

R. Mary appeared in the Sorrowful Mother Chapel for two hours. The whole corner was adorned in the most brilliant celestial light with a pink hew. Marty and I will never forget the experience of this evening. Jesus illuminated in the Sacred Heart statue during the litany and the promises of the Sacred Heart. Jesus requested that this rosary be circulated to all.

Messages from Mary

March 30, 1995 Rosary

               Birth of Jesus

Mary: I am the Immaculate Conception. I am here with you, my beloved ones. I call out to you to pray fervently, for the days ahead are days filled with suffering. This world has lost its way. You must pray fervently for all beloved souls. I call you to pray this rosary every day. Pray the rosary as you have never prayed from your heart before. Be filled with the love of my Heart and my Son, Jesus. Be forever wrapped in our lives. Come, come to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary and be led deeply into our immense love for you. Pray, my little ones, for sufferings are to come, deep sufferings. This world is disobedient. They will not obey the laws and commands of my Son. I have come! I have called! I am ignored! My dear ones, my sweet ones, I tell you, I tell you to pray. Listen with your ears open and your hearts filled with the love of God. It will be your strength for the dark days that are ahead. I am the Immaculate Heart. I call out to you, my beloved. This rosary is a tool that will draw many hearts to the Hearts of me and my Son.

Mary: I pray with you, my little ones. Each prayer that you pray should be connected with me and my Son and the angels and saints and the souls in purgatory. You are praying as one with the courts of heaven. Lift high your hearts! Lift your voices and join with us!

Mary: I pray for this world, for this world that is sinful and godless. I ask you to pray fervently and to come to my Most Immaculate Heart.

Mary: How my little children suffer, little children that are so young! Men's hearts are so cruel and filled with self. I beg you to go out and spread the love of my Son to this world. You must stayed fixed on Him!

Mary: My Heart bleeds and I cry bloody tears for the slaughter that is happening to the young ones. As my child was a baby in my arms, I call out to you to pray fervently for the little ones, for they are being persecuted far beyond anyone's comprehension from the ways of this world. My precious little children!

Mary: I am the Mother of all!

Mary: I am the Immaculate Conception and I am truly present and with you. Men will not listen. They will not turn from their ways. You must pray as you never prayed before. The times at hand are times of great suffering. I am calling out to you to spread this message to the world, for this world is not listening. Who is here to pray with you? Three! Three of you are here and I am in your midst! Men do not care for their world. They hold on to their world and I tell you over and over again to pray the rosary. I am truly present and I am here with you.

The Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple

Mary: My Heart was pierced with a sword so many times through my Child's life. My dear ones, people will suffer because they will not listen. They are willful in their ways. I call out to you to spread these messages in any way that you can, for I am truly speaking to you here and times are so short. My dear ones, carry this message out to this world, for sufferings are at hand!

Mary: I call you to come on the fifth of April and pray the rosary here in this room.

Mary: Bring with you all that will pray, for sufferings are at hand. You will suffer such immense sufferings. You need to pray! Pray the rosary! Tell all to come and be with me in this room to pray the rosary!

Mary: I have held back the hand of my Son! He will call upon the earth and there will be such suffering, my beloved ones. You tarry too long! These messages of His love must circulate! You do not know what is about to befall the earth. I call out to you this day to listen to me for, as you see me illuminated before you, you know that what I speak to you is true.

Mary: Pray! Pray! Pray!

Mary: I am Our Lady of Light and I appear to you to take this message to this world this day! Carry this message to every person and tell them what I tell you here!

Mary: My Heart was pierced with a sword as I stood beneath the cross of my Son! As He gave His life, His flesh and His blood for love of you, my Son loves each and every soul. He died for them! I beg you to go into this world and to spread His love to every corner of this world. You can not hold back! Souls will be lost because they did not know the love of my Son. You are in a position, for He is speaking to you, to carry this message to those who are hurting. Feed the hungry souls with the love of my Son!

Mary: Let your hearts be filled with my light! May you have the courage that the Holy Spirit will give to you so strongly to transform you from fear to fearlessness, to carry out the plan of the Father. You are my lights to shine to this darkened world! Let your hearts be opened and go, my children! Go! I summon you to go and to not hold back!

Mary: I will make myself known to those who come and pray this rosary!

The Finding of Jesus in the Temple

Mary: I would like my Son Jesus present in the tabernacle when you pray this rosary!

Mary: My Son was taken to the Temple for the feast of the Passover. We lost my Son in the Temple. So many souls this day are in deep darkness and have lost their way. They are dead in their hearts! I pray to you to go out to this world and spread the good news! You are so favored by God that you are given such great gifts! To hold them to yourself is not to His liking! I beg you to spread this news, to pray for courage, to do what He is asking you to do!

Mary: He has chosen this Center to be apostles to go out into the world and to spread the love of His Most Sacred Heart through my Most Immaculate Heart. Can you not answer the call that I give to you this day? You are so favored, so chosen, so gifted by God Himself and you bicker and you fight and you complain! You, my chosen ones, the chosen race, look at you!

Mary: You look at each other with eyes of envy when God is speaking here! Each person that receives this message is receiving a grace, a gift from God Himself! You do not even see! You are so blind!

Mary: Pride is an evil that ruins men's hearts. Speak to all men of pride. It is only a loving heart that will unite with the Heart of my Son. A heart of love will light up this darkened world. I send you as soldiers into a world that is godless! You are fighting a battle with this world, with hearts full of the love of my Son. Look at all the souls that are lost! Look at the children of these parents who have gone astray! Little children! Look at their lives! I am so sad for the lives of my children. I call to you this day. Look at your world, America! You are so blind! You do not see! You have turned deaf and you have closed your eyes! I come and I appear! My Son talks and so many do not pay Him heed! I beg you! I beg you to heed my words for I truly am Mary, and I am speaking to you!

Mary: Hearts that are hard, hearts that are godless, hearts that are lifeless, hearts that are dead in sin! Look at your world, America! Can you turn your head and look the other way? I come and I plead with you to turn your hearts back to the love of my Son, and who listens? Three come to pray my rosary with me! How do I shake those into listening to me here for I am truly speaking in this rosary to my beloved children? Listen to me! All those who come to this rosary will receive abundant graces from me and my Son!

Mary: My lost children, how the fires in hell burn, burn so brightly for the souls that were willful and had their own way. You do not see! You do not comprehend! You focus on little details here in your lives! Focus on the fires of hell, my dear, sweet children. Souls are burning in the fires of hell for their own willfulness and sin, and many more will be lost despite the sufferings of my Son. Many souls will be lost. I call you to unite with the Heart of my Son, to go into this world and preach the Gospel at every highway and byway, to spread the love of my Son, Jesus.

Mary: My little, lost children, I am your Mother, and I lead you on your way, closer and closer to Heaven!

Mary: Tomorrow is the 31st of March and I tell you to come to this chapel and pray the rosary in this chapel at 6:20 p.m.

Messages from Jesus

March 30, 1995 Rosary

The Visitation

Jesus: I call out to you this day, My beloved ones, for I am truly present. You are My chosen ones that I call upon to unite ever so closely to My Heart. I send you into this world among the wolves that will bite at you and grab at you. You must be strong soldiers to spread My love throughout the world. Will you not answer this call for I am calling with such an ardent plea? Please, I am begging you to take this plea seriously.

Jesus: Let your hearts not be heavy but light, filled with the fire of My love. Ascend upward and upward. Do not be dragged down by the perils and the sins of this world for I am filling you with My divine life and My divine love. You must forever ascend upward, always with your eyes cast upward toward heaven for you are My soldiers that I send into this world to spread the Good News to all those that are hurting and in pain. I call out to you. Do not worry for what is happening around you.

Excerpts from The Spirituality of Fatima

by Fr. Edward Carter, S.J.

May 13, 1917

"Do not be afraid, I will do you no harm..... I am from Heaven.

"I have come to ask you to come here for six months in succession, on the 13th day, at the same hour. Later on, I will tell you who I am and what I want

"Are you willing to offer yourselves to God and bear all the sufferings He wills to send you, as an act of reparation for the sins by which He is offended, and in supplication for the conversion of sinners?

"Pray the Rosary every day in order to obtain peace for the world, and the end of the war." (8)

"God wishes you to remain in the world for some time because He wants to use you to establish in the world the devotion to my Immaculate Heart. I promise salvation to those who embrace it, and their souls will be loved by God as flowers placed by myself to adorn His throne." (10)

July 13, 1917

"During her appearance in July, Our Lady, in answer to Lucia's plea, promised that in October she would work a great miracle so that all might believe and know who she was. Again, the Mother of God told the children to sacrifice themselves for sinners and to say many times, especially when making a sacrifice, this prayer: "O my Jesus, I offer this for love of Thee, for the conversion of poor sinners, and in reparation for all the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary." (11)

"During this same July apparition, Mary showed the three children a vision of Hell. She told them:

"You have seen Hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish, in the world, devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If people do what I tell you, many souls will be saved and there will be peace.

"The war (World War I, then raging) is going to end. But if people do not stop offending God, another and worse one will begin in the reign of Pius XI. When you shall see a night illuminated by an unknown light [January 2, 1938], know that this is the great sign that God gives you that He is going to punish the world for its many crimes by means of war, hunger, and persecution of the Church and the Holy Father. (12)

"To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart and the Communion of Reparation on the five first Saturdays. If my requests are granted, Russia will be converted and there will be peace. If not, she will scatter her errors throughout the world, provoking wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, and various nations will be destroyed....

"But in the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph, the Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, Russia will be converted, and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world." (13)

August 19, 1917

She told them she was greatly displeased by the action of the mayor. As a result, the miracle promised for October would not be as impressive as originally planned. (15)

September 13, 1917

More than 30,000 people were present in September, and saw a shower of mysterious white petals fall to within 10 feet of the ground before dissolving into the air. Many also saw the globe of light bearing the Lady come to rest atop the tree, and the branches bend as though someone were standing on them. Later, they saw the cloud depart into the east, from whence it had come.(16)

October 13, 1917

I am the Lady of the Rosary. I have come to warn the faithful to amend their lives and to ask pardon for their sins. They must not offend Our Lord any more, for He is already too grievously offended by the sins of men. People must say the Rosary. Let them continue saying it every day.(17)

While the people in attendance were beholding the great Miracle of the Sun, the three young visionaries, and they alone, were privileged to see striking visions in the heavens:

As Our Lady had promised, St. Joseph had come with the Holy Family and had blessed the world. Then, Our Lady appeared as the Mother of Sorrows, accompanied by her Divine Son, Who also blessed the world. Finally, Lucy had seen the Blessed Virgin, dressed in the brown robes of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, crowned as Queen of Heaven and Earth, holding a brown Scapular in her hand, with her infant Son upon her knee. However, in none of these visions had any of the figures spoken to the children. (18)

Besides the messages associated with the major Fatima apparitions, there were other revelations given by Our Lady. Before Jacinta died, she told of other messages given her (during her illness) by Mary:

More souls go to Hell because of sins of the flesh than for any other reason.

Certain fashions will be introduced that will offend Our Lord very much.

Many marriages are not good; they do not please Our Lord and are not of God.

Priests must be pure, very pure. They should not busy themselves with anything except what concerns the Church and souls. The disobedience of priests, to their superiors and to the Holy Father, is very displeasing to Our Lord.

I can no longer restrain the hand of my Divine Son from striking the world with just punishments for its many crimes.

If the government of a country leaves the Church in peace and gives liberty to our Holy Religion, it will be blessed by God.

Tell everybody that God gives graces through the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Tell them to ask grace from her, and that the Heart of Jesus wishes to be venerated together with the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Ask them to plead for peace from the Immaculate Heart of Mary, for the Lord has confided the peace of the world to her. (19)

Words of Jesus to Members of
Shepherds of Christ Associates:

"My beloved priest-companion, I intend to use the priestly newsletter, Shepherds of Christ, and the movement, Shepherds of Christ Associates, in a powerful way for the renewal of My Church and the world.

"I will use the newsletter and the chapters of Shepherds of Christ Associates as a powerful instrument for spreading devotion to My Heart and My Mother's Heart.

"I am calling many to become members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. To all of them I will give great blessings. I will use them as instruments to help bring about the triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the reign of My Sacred Heart. I will give great graces to the members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. I will call them to be deeply united to My Heart and to Mary's Heart as I lead them ever closer to My Father in the Holy Spirit."

- Message from Jesus to Father Edward J. Carter, S.J., Founder, as given on July 31, 1994,
feast of Saint Ignatius Loyola, Founder of the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits)

Yes — All the ends of the earth have seen
the power of God.

God has called us to be united as a family in
the Shepherds of Christ.

This is a vocation — to pray deeply for
the priests, the Church and the world and
to help support the Newsletter and the
Ministries.

Remember the image of Our Lady
of Clearwater on the building. We have
very special Fatima statues so you can
have a special place of prayer in your
homes, praying the rosary for your family
and for the priests, the Church and the
world. If you are interested in these
very special Fatima/Clearwater statues
e-mail me with your phone number
and address
info@sofc.org.

     Those using the special statues
will be united to us in a special way —
We want you to pray the Shepherds of
Christ prayers for the priests, the Church
and the world from your special place
in your home.

When people have set up a prayer corner/niche
with this statue, Fatima/Clearwater glass, they have
reported that their families have received special
blessings. With this statue it is important to pray
the prayers in the red prayer manual and consecrate
your home and family to the Sacred Heart and
Immaculate Heart.

Call Sheila or Doris about statues or go to China or
Clearwater.
