                R. Friendship with God –

How can a person be a friend with God
when they don't know how to be a
                friend to anyone –

It is unselfish love to be a friend.
It is not seeking a selfishness in
                        the relationship.

                God is all good –

Friendship seeks oneness with another –

The gift of the virtue to love more and
                    more deeply comes from allowing
oneself to give oneself to another
as God gives the grace for that
                    person to love –

Loving comes from a grace God gives
us to love and our unselfish
                    response to give ourselves
                    to another.

How can a person be a friend to God
when they are not a friend
                    with anybody else because
they refuse to give of themselves
                    to any other person –

I thought of the kamikaze pilots
of World War II that went down fighting
to their death, but didn't have
as their goal eternal salvation –

It takes faith to see through the eyes of God.
Faith is a gift God gives. Faith is a theological
virtue. God must give the grace for a man
to see through the eyes of God and the man
gives themselves to God in cooperating
                with this grace.

The deadly sins are bad habits that
deaden the soul. The man who
lives the deadly sin of pride, anger,
                    jealousy, envy, lust, gluttony, slothfulness
sees with distorted vision. They see
God with distorted vision, they see
others with distorted vision, they see
                    themselves with distorted vision.
A man who will not even admit how
he lives in deadly sins and who
does not seek to change – practices
                    ever deeper these habits, their
eyes see jealousy, they are envious
of others, they want to always be
                    over authority, discrediting authority,
and trying to overturn structure –
they are not sorry for their pride –
they want that vision - impaired
vision they have of the truth to
                    reign.

Hope is a virtue that a man always sees
before himself the goal of heaven.

Having the vision of God, seeking
                    right reasoning, living in goodness,
loving God and others and oneself
                    brings light to the soul.
                    God lives in the soul.

The man is a virtuous man.
He hopes for his own salvation –
He hopes for the salvation of other men –
                He has fear of God,
He is under God, not puffed up
                    in foolish pride of seeking
                    dominance for dominance
sake – like Eve in the Garden.

Eve chose to disobey God –
                Eve knew God's commands.
Eve disobeyed God and wanted to
                    be equal to God –

Eve committed a sin of great pride.

We were created in the image and likeness
of God. God is love. God is
                    all good.

                Being prideful, envious, jealous,
                    angry and hating our neighbor,
hating oneself is not like God –
is not in the image of God.

A person whose god is their own
                    space fails to open themselves
                    to friends, to others, God
intends men to love others –
God intends a man to seek
friendship and unity with Him –

God gifts a man with a heart made
                    for love –

God creates a man in His image
                    and likeness –

God intends a man to be good –
to bring His goodness and love
                    to others –

                Man can rebel against God's
                    gift of friendship –

Man can raise up to try to see themselves
                    as equal to God –

                Satan wants power

See how satan wanted Christ to
                    worship him.

Matthew 4: 1-11

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit out into the desert to be put to the test by the devil. He fasted for forty days and forty nights, after which he was hungry, and the tester came and said to him, ‘If you are Son of God, tell these stones to turn into loaves.’ But he replied, ‘Scripture says:

Human beings live not on bread alone
    but on every word
that comes from the mouth of God.’

The devil then took him to the holy city and set him on the parapet of the Temple. ‘If you are Son of God,’ he said, ‘throw yourself down; for scripture says:

He has given his angels orders about you,

and they will carry you in their arms
in case you trip over a stone.’

Jesus said to him, ‘Scripture also says:

Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’

Next, taking him to a very high mountain, the devil showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendour. And he said to him, ‘I will give you all these, if you fall at my feet and do me homage.’ Then Jesus replied, ‘Away with you, Satan! For scripture says:

The Lord your God is the one
to whom you must do homage,
    him alone you must serve.’

Then the devil left him, and suddenly angels appeared and looked after him.

                R. We are creatures and we know our
                    creaturehood –

                God is above us –
                God is Creator –

We were created with a restlessness
                    that we are not satisfied
                    until we rest in God.

God made us to seek life – life in Him.

                Life is in Him –

                God gives us breath –

God keeps our heart beating –

We are dependent on God whether
we think we are the person
                    responsible for ourselves
or not. We are in error –
                    we depend on God.

God gives us the world to live in –
God gives us the sun and water –

                God is above us
And we are dependent on God.

                God wants order –

Eve brought disorder to this earth –
Eve didn't know her place –

In the Gospel we included we see
satan, a fallen angel, didn't know
                    his place –
he wanted Jesus to bow to him, satan.

Now listen to this Gospel again –

                R. Satan is an enemy –
Satan is absent of love –
                Satan is hate
                Satan is lies
Satan is the opposer of God's will –
                Satan is the opposer

What makes a person parade down here
on God's earth, in front of God,
and blatantly walk in front of
                    God sinning and leading others
to sin – like God doesn't exist –

Man is the creature - God is the Creator –
                Man was created under God!
A man that loves God knows his place.
God is the lover of his soul.
                God is on his mind.

Like a little child loving their dad
and wanting to please him –
the soul was to be loving
God more and more and living in
                    love seeking God's will –

Priestly Newsletter Book II - September/October 1997

Scriptural Reflections

In all this Mary offers an example. Selfishness was totally foreign to her. She did not belong to herself. She belonged to God. She was not closed in upon herself. She was completely open to God. When God spoke, she listened. When God pointed the way, she followed. She realized that life is not a process a person masters by carefully mapping out one's own self-conceived plans of conquest, but a mystery to be gradually experienced by being open to God's personal and loving guidance.

Selfishness, then, did not close Mary off from God's call. Neither did fear. God asked her to assume a tremendous responsibility. He asked her to be the Mother of Jesus. Mary did not engage in a process of false humility and say that such a great role was above her. She did not say that she did not have the proper qualifications for this awesome mission. Briefly, she did not waste time looking at herself, making pleas that she was not worthy, telling the angel he had better go look for someone else. No, Mary did not look at herself. Her gaze was absorbed in God. She fully realized that whatever God asked of her, His grace would accomplish. She fully realized that although she herself had to cooperate, this work was much more God's than hers.

Mary's words, then, truly sum up what is the authentic Christian response at any point of life, in any kind of situation: "I am the handmaid of the Lord," said Mary, "let what you have said be done to me".
end of excerpt

Luke 1: 46-55

And Mary said:

My soul proclaims
    the greatness of the Lord
and my spirit rejoices
    in God my Saviour;
because he has looked upon
    the humiliation of his servant.
Yes, from now onwards
all generations will call me blessed,
for the Almighty
has done great things for me.
Holy is his name,
and his faithful love extends age after age
    to those who fear him.
He has used the power of his arm,
he has routed the arrogant of heart.
He has pulled down princes
    from their thrones
        and raised high the lowly.
He has filled the starving with good things,
    sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the help
    of Israel his servant,
        mindful of his faithful love
—according to the promise
    he made to our ancestors—
of his mercy to Abraham
and to his descendants for ever.

                R. Mary is the perfect handmaid of
                    the Lord.

                Mary is model for us.

The angel of peace in 1916 said
the Hearts of Jesus and Mary are
attentive to the voice of your supplication.

Mary and Jesus are our friends.
Mary and Jesus are the Hearts of perfect
                    love –

Consecrating our hearts to Jesus and Mary means
                    we know our place

LOVE and FRIENDSHIP

                R. We desire with all our hearts –
                    FRIENDSHIP with the Divine
                    God –
We don't act like EVE who
                        wanted disorder –
in pride she wanted to be
                            equal to God –
                    So she disobeyed God's command
                        and hid –

Today the devil is so brazen –
people parade before God in sin
                        acting as if God doesn't
                        hear, God doesn't see
                        their rebellion against Him –

God is all just – Man will be
                    judged on what he did

Man has a free will to obey God
and seek God's friendship or –
to rebel against God and parade
                        blatantly in pride before God
                        sinning against God's commandments –

                Moses threw down the commandment
                    tablets God gave them because
when Moses went up the mountain –
they made a golden calf and
                    they worshipped it –

We see God's creation, the beauty He
                    has made, the beautiful
baby God gave us and we are
in awe at His power, His
                    goodness, His love –

We see the order in things – I ordered
a tape – the Great Math Mystery –

We see the hand of God across
                    the centuries in Math we
                    discover the handprint of God
                    in the universe, in flowers,
                    in symmetry –

Eve wanted to see herself as
equal to God – Adam and Eve sinned
against God – Eve was prideful,
                Eve was disobedient to God,
and Eve told Adam to eat the forbidden
fruit and Adam ate the forbidden
                fruit rebelling against God –

                Order             <––––>         Disorder
                Virtue            <––or––>        Vices
                Obedience      <––or––>        Disobedience
                    to                                     by the creatures
                    God our                            against the
                    Creator                             Creator

Do you see the Mastery of a little baby
created in the image and likeness
                    of God?

How prideful does pride go in the fallen man –

How prideful is the man - that
                    knows not his place
                    before God –
                    that challenges the goodness
                        of God –

                Did you ever hear
don't bite the hand that feeds
                    you –

                God created the world –
                It is His –
We are here on His earth –

Many in the human race are rebelling against God.

We are called by God, as members of
                    the human race, to make
                    reparation to God.

                Pride is a sin.

Pride is seen in the sin of Adam and Eve –

                Because of this disorder
                    sin entered the world –

Genesis 4: 6-8

Yahweh asked Cain, 'Why are you angry and downcast? If you are doing right, surely you ought to hold your head high! But if you are not doing right, Sin is crouching at the door hungry to get you. You can still master him.' Cain said to his brother Abel, ‘Let us go out’; and while they were in the open country, Cain set on his brother Abel and killed him.

                R. Jealousy, Envy, Anger, hatred –

Cain didn't know his place –

Suzanna bathing in the Garden –
                    the men lied
                    they didn't know their place
                    A sin of lust!

Jesus came, the Son of God, our Savior
                    a gift of love –

                Jesus taught, Jesus healed –
Jesus was born in poverty –
                Jesus is love
                Jesus is all good –
Jesus is the Son of God –
                Jesus is a gift –
                Jesus gives –

                Being like Jesus means
                    (1) Doing God's will
                        Jesus died doing God's will

                    (2) Sacrifice and love –
                        Jesus gives Himself today
                            in the Mass

                    (3) Knowing our place –
                        Jesus is Supreme –
                            we are under Him

1 Corinthians 15: 20-28

In fact, however, Christ has been raised from the dead, as the first-fruits of all who have fallen asleep. As it was by one man that death came, so through one man has come the resurrection of the dead. Just as all die in Adam, so in Christ all will be brought to life; but all of them in their proper order: Christ the first-fruits, and next, at his coming, those who belong to him. After that will come the end, when he will hand over the kingdom to God the Father, having abolished every principality, every ruling force and power. For he is to be king until he has made his enemies his footstool, and the last of the enemies to be done away with is death, for he has put all things under his feet. But when it is said everything is subjected, this obviously cannot include the One who subjected everything to him. When everything has been subjected to him, then the Son himself will be subjected to the One who has subjected everything to him, so that God may be all in all.

                R. Doing God's will –
                    not too much
                    not too little

Loving others like Jesus would –
                    not lustfully – not being
                    hateful, prideful, jealous, angry,
                    combatal, envious etc.

                Loving others as ourselves –

We have a lifetime to learn how
                    to love

                        (1) God
                        (2) others
                        (3) self –
