                R. The sacraments are signs or symbols
through which Christ acts to give
us His life or increase and deepen
                it in us.

                    John 9

A man was born blind – Christ
used mud and put it over
                    his eyes and he washed
it off and he saw –

The important part of the sacraments
is Christ acts – Christ chooses
to act in a certain way using
                    certain things instruments –

                The priest, water, bread, wine,
                    oil –

The blind man put faith in
                    Christ

Water or bread or wine or
                    oil cannot do anything
                    to us by themselves –
                    but through Christ –
                    they become an instrument
                    of Divine Life –

Thus it is important to realize
the sacraments are acts of Christ
                    an encounter with Christ –
they are not magic or automatic
                    (like a candy machine)
                    Their value can be increased
by how God decides to give
                    grace, but we should
                    have a holy attitude –
                    especially believing and
                    loving as God intends
                    us to do

                God gives grace –

Faith, hope and love are theological
                    virtues –
                    God gives the grace –
We respond to His grace –

Fresh air in a room does not depend on
                    the window, but whether
                    the window is open –

The Father, Son and Holy Spirit dwell in
                    the graced baptized soul

The Holy Spirit moves as a breathe in the
man that opens to Him and
the Holy Spirit comes in –

The voice of the Holy Spirit is with the
                    gentle touch –

The fruits of the Holy Spirit are
                    charity, joy, peace, patience,
                    benignity (kindness), goodness,
                    long-suffering, mildness,
                    faith, modesty, continency,
                    and chastity.

The Holy Spirit wants to lead us, as a
                    breathe
He does not come in when a
                        person is focused on provoking
                        and manipulating others
in mean and angry pranks –

The soul needs silence and peace
for the Holy Spirit to enter and
                    rest and work there –

The man addicted to anger and
jealousy and envy and pride –
is not hearing the breathe of the Holy Spirit.

                The deadly sins – deaden a man's
                    perception  –- his vision is
                    distorted –
He holds on – when he needs to
                        let go and know his
                        dependence on God for
greater faith, hope and love –

Fr. Carter always told me – we need
                    relationships of loving and
                    trusting one another and this
                    helps us grow in our
                    relationship with God –

Knowing and loving and trusting God helps
                    us with intimate relationships
                    with others –

If a person is not trustworthy
                    in any relationships with
others – how can they trust
                    God or even learn about
                    friendship –

Living with others in family and
                    friends helps us work on
                    problems and still live
in love and unity with others –

                Living our whole life deciding
"I will avoid problems – so
I can decide what to do
                        first is wrong"

Jesus: I see this – the man who tries
to do his own will under
                    authority because he wants –
                    no problems –
                    he wants control –
                    and he hasn't learned about
                    dependence on God –
nor does he ever even let
the Holy Spirit move in him –

                Living in a vacuum against
                    the people you were called
                    to work with –
                    Doesn't work –

                God is God –

When a person acts from the
                    wounded place of their
                    human nature – they
                    do not grow and their
                    advancements do not
                    last –

Leaders are to be focused on God's
                    people –

A person closing in – where they
                    decide, where they do not
open up – where there is
                    not unity and working
                    together –
                    is just that –
                    a person closing down –

Where do you go - when you
                    built nothing and you
need help in your old age –

The fool doesn't see tomorrow –

A person addicted to anger can
be enslaved to his darkness –

To know Divine Things, a person
                    must be pure –
A person is open to the Holy Spirit
                        who is working in their
                        life –

                    Not closed down because they
                        have found a place in
                        life where they can
                        operate, control and
                        never change their ways!

You either grow or go backward
                    in the spiritual life –
                    You don't stay the same.

                Purity, love, growth in the
                    spiritual life comes
from the Holy Spirit working in
a soul – open and knowing
                    their dependence on God.

A man went to the window
                    and it was closed. He
then began to talk of the
                    fresh air circulating through
                    the window –
                    What a fool – a window
                    closed does not have fresh
                    air coming through the
                    window.

How can a soul be open
                to the Holy Spirit when
                it is controlled by anger
                and pride, envy, jealousy,
                slothfulness – addictions
                and selfishness in a stubborn
                controlling will?

September 12, 2015

                R. In prayer we talk to God –

                We need to communicate with
                    each other –

We need to communicate as a
                    friend with God.

                Without communication in friends,
at home – marriages break up –
A person who is married is
                    to work with a husband,
and if they have children –
                    they know children grow
                    up

Children can react to what went
on in the home by rebelling
                    against authority life-long –

                    God intends us to communicate
and to work with each other –
                Parents teach the children about
how men and women get along –

A person can learn from their home-life
                    that they should be truthful
and at peace, they should be
                    fair, they should trust
                    relationships and make friends –

We are being taught at home - how
                    to obey authority, about structure
                    about friends, about trust, about
                    life –

In one home the people communicate,
                there is celebration, people feel
                respected, people feel safe to
unite and go out to the world
                and build relationships with
others – it is safe – people are
true to their word – Marriage is
a union that is created by God
and in marriage it is to be
like a small church – growing
in love – working on problems
fairly – learning about authority –
                learning boundaries about themselves –
nobody has a right to touch a
child sexually – it is against
                their boundaries –
                boundaries are taught in families
to children – to children about
                how brothers and sisters are
to treat each other – boys treat
                girls –

Yes the home has a big function
                that influences a person in
                life –

People can then marry – we can see
that many times children that were
not taught right – give the parents
a lot of problems when they
                grew up.

                    People learn about feeling
secure in families – a person
                can feel secure from their
home or a person can spend
their life trying to get lost
power back from others – never
                making relationships – never
being accountable for their behavior –
                seeking negative affection – every
day if they can get away with
it – turning upside down and
                destroying relationships every
place they go – HIGH MAINTENANCE –

                    How can such a person
trust God – learn to make relationships
with God if they see other people
                as an enemy?

                    Relationship is learned and
passed down from the family tree –

How do the men think about women
                    in the family?
Did the dad respect the wife?
                    Was there love between them
                        given in the family?

                Did people really teach the
                    children about loving God
                    and communicating to God
                    in a particular family?

                Were people taught about
                    boundaries, authority,
                    working together, love,
                    respect?

Was the person taught - not to
                    respect their brothers and
                    sisters, but be in competition,
                    allowed to pull jealous
                    and envious pranks –

Life is a learning process –
                    Learning about relationships
                        with God and others –

                    God commands us to love
that means we are to try to
                        get along with each
                        other in relationships.

A person also has a basic disposition,
are they this type of person or
that type of person, but we
                    all have tendencies toward
                    the deadly sins because of
                    original sin –

A person that spends their life seeing
only their own world, so they
                    don't have to change and
forcing their plan on others, has
not learned to let go and
                    live by God's will –

A person is to learn to love, to get
along, to seek truth, to be
                    really more and more like
                    Jesus –

                In dysfunctional homes there can
be many secrets – how people
                    play out games: passive-aggressive
                    to manipulate others

In religious communities – there are
to be communities – not to
                    where any person underneath
can use the job, needed things for
                    the development of the Church
as a weapon to try to force
                    their learned behavior from
                    the past on others –

                    Religious communities have
                a superior and structure
                and the nuns, brothers or
priests – live by the rules
of poverty, chastity and obedience –
                usually all 3 –
                there must be chastity and
                obedience to the superior –
there is to be structure –
                not where individuals do what
they want at the bottom of
                the structure steps and
force their way to be obeyed
                by those over them –
                That place is utter pandemonium
                and will not grow in
                order or holiness where
                an institution has no authority
                and people manipulate from
                underneath authority –

                    When there is structure, rules,
and love there can be growth –

In loving God and others in
                families, religious orders,
                marriage – people are working
together – happy to be with
each other – praying together –
there is a goal of giving respect
                and love and fairness –

                There are rules –
                There is authority –
                There is love –
There is hope of eternal life
                    for oneself and for others
in the family and community –

There are people that are true –
on the outside they do not
                    wear a mask for secrets
                    and manipulation they
engage in – in the inside –

                There is honesty –

Look at Christ - who went to
His death – almost bare –
                    He was stripped of His
                    garments –

                People in dysfunctional families
                    can be taught to harbor
                    secrets –
What goes on in the house?

                A person who is accountable
                    to God – doesn't act
                    different when no one
is looking – they know God knows
their heart and sees their actions
even if nobody else does –

Jesus paid a big price to come
and teach us about Himself –
We see a real picture of Jesus
                in the Gospels –

People who are true - don't
                    lie – don't manipulate –
                    God is absolute truth –
We are to be a blessing
                    to others and living to
                    spread honesty and truthfulness
in our dealings with others –
                    the greatest commandment is –

Matthew 22: 36-40

'Master, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?' Jesus said to him, 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets too.'

                R. When we love God - we know
                    presence – we increase in
                    our knowing God's presence
                    in us –

We want to be more and more in
the image and likeness of God –

God gives us communion – to
help us unite with Him and with
                others –

We are in the family of God at
Mass – we unite in a
                    very deep way –

God wants all men to go to
Mass – especially on Sunday –

                      3. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.

                    We go in love –
We give ourselves on the Lord's
                        Day - in love –

God commands us to keep holy
                    the Sabbath Day –

                Religion is not just between
                    God and me – it
                    includes our brothers –

                We spend time in loving
                    affection with God alone –
                    in prayer

                We spend time in loving
                    affection with God with
                    our brothers –

                Both are necessary and support
                    each other –

Matthew 18: 19-20

Prayer in common

'In truth I tell you once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at all, it will be granted to you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three meet in my name, I am there among them.'

                R. Prayer should include

                    1) adoration
                    2) contrition - sorrow for sin
                    3) thanksgiving
                    4) supplication

We must have faith in our
                    prayers –
                    God will hear us –

                God will answer us according
                    to His will

God is a Father who loves
                    us and hears our
                    prayers and helps us –

We are to love God with our
                    whole heart, our whole soul,
                    our whole being –

                Love is giving

When we love God we want
to give this love to God –

The person who wants to know
                    God's presence will
                    pray often –

We can know how the Blessed Virgin Mary
                    is right by our side,
                    praying with us –
                    God wants us to work
                    together –
                    God expects us to be
united to the Blessed Virgin Mary
                        and the angels and
                        saints and pray with
                        them –
