1 John 1: 1-4

Something which has existed
   since the beginning,
which we have heard,
which we have seen with our own eyes,
which we have watched
and touched with our own hands,
the Word of life-
this is our theme.
That life was made visible;
we saw it and are giving our testimony,
declaring to you the eternal life,
which was present to the Father
and has been revealed to us.
We are declaring to you
what we have seen and heard,
so that you too may share our life.
Our life is shared with the Father
and with his Son Jesus Christ.
We are writing this to you
so that our joy may be complete.

                R. God loves us so much.

Who am I that I am so loved by Him –

Jesus: And I gave you this gift of sharing
in My life thru baptism. You are
                precious to Me.
Life is so very precious, My child.
Life is not life, if it is not rooted
                    in Me.
After you realize that life is a
                struggle, will you accept that
                and turn to Me?
I am always with you in everything
                you do; everything takes greater
meaning in Me. Your life is a
song and you sing to the world –

                Song: A Song from Jesus

Jesus: Say this prayer all through the day I have
                    given it to you –

Prayer for Union with Jesus

Come to me, Lord, and possess my soul. Come into my heart and permeate my soul. Help me to sit in silence with You and let You work in my heart.

I am Yours to possess. I am Yours to use. I want to be selfless and only exist in You. Help me to spoon out all that is me and be an empty vessel ready to be filled by You. Help me to die to myself and live only for You. Use me as You will. Let me never draw my attention back to myself. I only want to operate as You do, dwelling within me.

I am Yours, Lord. I want to have my life in You. I want to do the will of the Father. Give me the strength to put aside the world and let You operate my very being. Help me to act as You desire. Strengthen me against the distractions of the devil to take me from Your work.

When I worry, I have taken my focus off of You and placed it on myself. Help me not to give in to the promptings of others to change what in my heart You are making very clear to me. I worship You, I adore You and I love You. Come and dwell in me now.

-God's Blue Book, January 17, 1994

                R. Jesus, the Son of God, took flesh and came
to this earth to tell us about
Himself – Our Savior, Our Brother,
                Our Divine Lover

Those who are faithful to God, who do as
God wants will enter heaven –
                    a lasting city.

Hebrews 4: 1-5, 11

Let us beware, then: since the promise never lapses, none of you must think that he has come too late for the promise of entering his place of rest. We received the gospel exactly as they did; but hearing the message did them no good because they did not share the faith of those who did listen. We, however, who have faith, are entering a place of rest, as in the text: And then in my anger I swore that they would never enter my place of rest. Now God's work was all finished at the beginning of the world; as one text says, referring to the seventh day: And God rested on the seventh day after all the work he had been doing. And, again, the passage above says: They will never reach my place of rest.

Let us, then, press forward to enter this place of rest, or some of you might copy this example of refusal to believe and be lost.

1 Samuel 8: 4-7, 10-22

The elders of Israel all assembled, went back to Samuel at Ramah, and said, 'Look, you are old, and your sons are not following your example. So give us a king to judge us, like the other nations.' Samuel thought that it was wrong of them to say, 'Let us have a king to judge us,' so he prayed to Yahweh. But Yahweh said to Samuel, 'Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you: it is not you they have rejected

Everything that Yahweh had said, Samuel then repeated to the people who were asking him for a king. He said, 'This is what the king who is to reign over you will do. He will take your sons and direct them to his chariotry and cavalry, and they will run in front of his chariot. He will use them as leaders of a thousand and leaders of fifty; he will make them plough his fields and gather in his harvest and make his weapons of war and the gear for his chariots. He will take your daughters as perfumers, cooks and bakers. He will take the best of your fields, your vineyards and your olive groves and give them to his officials. He will tithe your crops and vineyards to provide for his courtiers and his officials. He will take the best of your servants, men and women, of your oxen and your donkeys, and make them work for him. He will tithe your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. When that day comes, you will cry aloud because of the king you have chosen for yourselves, but on that day Yahweh will not hear you.'

The people, however, refused to listen to Samuel. They said, 'No! We are determined to have a king, so that we can be like the other nations, with our own king to rule us and lead us and fight our battles.' Samuel listened to all that the people had to say and repeated it in Yahweh's ear. Yahweh then said to Samuel, 'Do as they ask and give them a king.' Samuel then said to the Israelites, 'Go home, each of you, to his own town.'

                R. We can see their are disorders of the body.

If we realize there are disorders of the
                    body, diseases, we can contemplate
sin, a disorder of the soul.

Jesus: For how can a man prosper when
he is held down in a great disease
of the body. In these times, a man
can give his attention to his soul
and spend time in the suffering
                    turning one's heart, especially,
                    to Me.
I am the way, the truth and the life
and I allow men to suffer. Men
must seek to be purified. As a person
with a grave disease of the body
cares for himself wishing to be well,
so a man with vices and sinful ways,
must put away these bad habits to
                    prepare himself, to prepare his
soul for God and seek a heavenly
reward, the fullness of life given
                    for all eternity in heaven.

Man was made for Me. I fashioned him
in My own image and likeness, I
gave him so many gifts – the Father's
Plan unique for his soul. Oh that
he would learn to love Me for which
God created him. God created an individual
soul for His honor and glory and gave him
a free will that he would freely choose
to love God with his whole heart, his
whole soul and his whole being
and man can throw back in God's face
his plan and oppose God's will and
act in grave disorder, rebelling against
Me, a good and loving God –

God the Father: Oh that you would hear this song –
"I don't know how to love Him, but
my life is His and I give it as
                    an obedient child seeking their
heavenly reward and favors of their
                    Father."

Jesus came to teach you about love –

In studying Jesus and His ways you will
live a life of love and sacrifice.
I love you, so very much, My precious
little child, My wonderful creation –
I created you in the image and likeness
                    of God.
I love you with love far beyond your
                    comprehension,
I am God the Father, your heavenly
                    Father –
I am attentive to your cries –
I created you for a purpose, many
oppose My Plan for them and in
                    misery for their own disobedience
                    rebel against their brothers in
hatred and sin. You are unhappy
when you oppose My will for you and are
                    very unhappy, darkened and miserable
in habitual sins that you hold onto
                    like trophies.

The man hugging his sins can be
so envious of the brothers he is to
love. Envy is like a snake around your
heart. A man of envy has sorrow for
the good the righteous man does and
wishes him harm. He is selfish and
not seeing himself as a blessing from
God and so the snake and chain in
his heart, he sees through envy at
                the good his brother accomplishes.
How would your heart feel with a
snake of envy around it? A man consumed
with pride is miserable and seeking
a goal against God's will. He wants to
fill himself and pad his cell and sees
                his brother as his enemy.

Satan wants to take your heart and
bind it with pride and envy and lust
and jealousy. You are then choking
in a dark closet of sin, miserable,
                envious, hating your brother.

Jesus: A man had a choice, two doors –
Door A was a Paradise of love and caring.
Door B a place of anger, and darkness and
                    hatred and isolation.
You have a choice, which one will you
choose – What do you want for
eternity – to go home obeying the Father's will – or
to go around like a vagabond searching and
consumed with hate – alone, angry
hating and hating and hating – an eternity
                    of hating.

Prepare your hearts for home –
Prepare your hearts by loving every day,
                    every minute, every second.

"Prepare in the wilderness a highway for the Lord"  Mark 1:3

Matthew 2: 1-12

After Jesus had been born at Bethlehem in Judaea during the reign of King Herod, suddenly some wise men came to Jerusalem from the east asking, ‘Where is the infant king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose and have come to do him homage.’ When King Herod heard this he was perturbed, and so was the whole of Jerusalem. He called together all the chief priests and the scribes of the people, and enquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They told him, ‘At Bethlehem in Judaea, for this is what the prophet wrote:

And you, Bethlehem,
    in the land of Judah,
you are by no means the least
    among the leaders of Judah
,
for from you will come a leader
who will shepherd my people Israel.’

Then Herod summoned the wise men to see him privately. He asked them the exact date on which the star had appeared and sent them on to Bethlehem with the words, ‘Go and find out all about the child, and when you have found him, let me know, so that I too may go and do him homage.’ Having listened to what the king had to say, they set out. And suddenly the star they had seen rising went forward and halted over the place where the child was. The sight of the star filled them with delight, and going into the house they saw the child with his mother Mary, and falling to their knees they did him homage. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh. But they were given a warning in a dream not to go back to Herod, and returned to their own country by a different way.

                R. When Jesus healed – he would say
                    first "Your sins are forgiven"

The disease of the body shows us
a little of disorders of the soul.

A man was clogged with sin, with bad
habits and unforgiveness, his heart filled
                with hatred toward his brother.

How is your body when it is clogged?
How is your heart when it is clogged
and the vessels are not operating
                    because of being clogged –

How is a man who rebels against
                    his own body?

Let your souls be filled with My
grace. God lives in the graced,
baptized soul. I want to dwell
in you and make a home in
                    you –

Live a holy life that you will be
                    able to enter eternal rest
                    in your heavenly home.

Your words Lord, are spirit and life (J4:24)

Psalm 19: 8-10, 14

The precepts of Yahweh are honest,
    joy for the heart;
the commandment of Yahweh is pure,
    light for the eyes.

The fear of Yahweh is pure,
    lasting for ever;
the judgements of Yahweh are true,
    upright, every one,

more desirable than gold,
    even than the finest gold;
his words are sweeter than honey,
    that drips from the comb.

May the words of my mouth always find favour,
and the whispering of my heart,
in your presence, Yahweh,
    my rock, my redeemer.

                R. Saul is anointed by Samuel, but
                    Saul disobeys –
Such an honor given and he turned
                    against God, Saul disobeyed God,
Saul is an example of how
                    disobedience ended in mayhem.

Jesus: The sick and the sinners need healing
                    from God –

The proud man sees himself as
autonomous, he has no need to be
healed, he thinks. He sees himself
                    right when he sins against
Me, a good and loving God.

Priests are gifts I give you –
                Priests are anointed.
Priests are to be faithful to their office.
Pray, as I have directed Fr. Carter, for your priests.
Pray for the Church and the world.
Spread these prayer chapters in different
languages all over the world –
I am Jesus, Chief Shepherd of the Flock.

Shepherds of Christ Associates:

"My beloved priest-companion, I intend to use the priestly newsletter, Shepherds of Christ, and the movement, Shepherds of Christ Associates, in a powerful way for the renewal of My Church and the world.

"I will use the newsletter and the chapters of Shepherds of Christ Associates as a powerful instrument for spreading devotion to My Heart and My Mother's Heart.

"I am calling many to become members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. To all of them I will give great blessings. I will use them as instruments to help bring about the triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the reign of My Sacred Heart. I will give great graces to the members of Shepherds of Christ Associates. I will call them to be deeply united to My Heart and to Mary's Heart as I lead them ever closer to My Father in the Holy Spirit."

- Message from Jesus to Father Edward J. Carter, S.J., Founder, as given on July 31, 1994,
feast of Saint Ignatius Loyola, Founder of the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits)

                R. Saul rejects what Samuel tells him –
What God expects of Saul was his
                    obedience to God.

We are to be dependable if we
                    work for God, obedient and
                    trustworthy. Saul was not.

1 Samuel 15: 16-23

Samuel then said to Saul, ‘Stop! Let me tell you what Yahweh said to me last night.’ He said, ‘Go on.’Samuel said, ‘Small as you may be in your own eyes, are you not the leader of the tribes of Israel? Yahweh has anointed you as king of Israel. When Yahweh sent you on a mission he said to you, “Go and put those sinners, the Amalekites, under the curse of destruction and make war on them until they are exterminated. Why then did you not obey Yahweh’s voice? Why did you fall on the booty and do what is wrong in Yahweh’s eyes? Saul replied to Samuel, ‘But I did obey Yahweh’s voice. I went on the mission which Yahweh gave me; I brought back Agag king of the Amalekites; I put Amalek under the curse of destruction; and from the booty the people have taken the best sheep and cattle of what was under the curse of destruction only to sacrifice them to Yahweh your God in Gilgal. To which, Samuel said:

Is Yahweh pleased by burnt offerings
        and sacrifices
or by obedience to Yahweh’s voice?
Truly, obedience is better than sacrifice,
submissiveness than the fat of rams.
Rebellion is a sin of sorcery,
    presumption a crime of idolatry!

‘Since you have rejected Yahweh’s word, he has rejected you as king.’

Psalm 50: 8-9, 16-17, 21, 23

It is not with your sacrifices that I find fault,
those burnt offerings constantly before me;
I will not accept any bull from your homes,
nor a single goat from your folds.

But to the wicked, God says:

What right have you to recite my statutes,
to take my covenant on your lips,
when you detest my teaching,
and thrust my words behind you?

You do this, and am I to say nothing?
Do you think that I am really like you?
I charge you, indict you to your face.

Honour to me is a sacrifice of thanksgiving;
to the upright I will show God’s salvation.’

                R. We are to be zealous in our vocation, for
God has a unique purpose for our life.
Why would we rebel against Him.
                Even suffering, physical and struggles
has its place in God's Plan –
If we follow Christ, we will have
                    to suffer, identify in His
                    suffering on the cross –

Christ suffered for our sins. We too
suffer and it can help bring
                    down many graces for
the Church and the world –

Hebrews 6: 10-20

God would not be so unjust as to forget all you have done, the love that you have for his name or the services you have done, and are still doing, for the holy people of God. Our desire is that every one of you should go on showing the same enthusiasm till the ultimate fulfilment of your hope, never growing careless, but taking as your model those who by their faith and perseverance are heirs of the promises. When God made the promise to Abraham, he swore by his own self, since there was no one greater he could swear by: I will shower blessings on you and give you many descendants. Because of that, Abraham persevered and received fulfilment of the promise. Human beings, of course, swear an oath by something greater than themselves, and between them, confirmation by an oath puts an end to all dispute. In the same way, when God wanted to show the heirs of the promise even more clearly how unalterable his plan was, he conveyed it by an oath so that through two unalterable factors in which God could not be lying, we who have fled to him might have a vigorous encouragement to grasp the hope held out to us. This is the anchor our souls have, reaching right through inside the curtain where Jesus has entered as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest for ever, of the order of Melchizedek.

                R. God has made a covenant with His people.
We are to thank God with all our heart
before others, showing witness to God.

God is loving and merciful, to those
who are faithful to Him, He
                    outpours mercy –

God is forever mindful of us and
                    forever mindful of His Covenant.

                We see Saul's revenge –
                    He disobeyed God and
                    David is anointed and Saul
                        wanted David killed –
Saul became evil in his ways –

Saul wanted to block God's Plan
                    despite his disobedience,
he wanted to kill David –

                Envy is sorrow over the
                    man doing good.

                Saul wanted David killed –
Saul wanted David to fail –

The envious man wants the good
man to fail because of their
                    own sin.

                The envious man is self-centered.
                Rather than rejoicing at his
                    calling from God and helping
                    God in living his vocation
                    with a pure heart –
He wants failure for the man doing
                    good and
                He sins against himself disobeying
                    God's will for him and
                    trying to block God's will
                    for the righteous man.
                    God's desires to complete
                         a good work in us.
The evil man, the envious man
wants to stop the good work
and help the evil to prevail,
                    serving satan and not God.

This makes the evil man dark
                    inside and miserable!

                David struck Goliath down with
his sling – God was behind David –
                    Saul was so envious!!
This envy and anger and jealousy
                        destroyed Saul in the end!!

                Jesus: Making satan your master
                    produces a bad end.
I know the desires of your
                        heart.

They wanted to kill Me for all
My good works given to men.

Mark 3: 1-6

Another time he went into the synagogue, and there was a man present whose hand was withered. And they were watching him to see if he would cure him on the Sabbath day, hoping for something to charge him with. He said to the man with the withered hand, 'Get up and stand in the middle!' Then he said to them, 'Is it permitted on the Sabbath day to do good, or to do evil; to save life, or to kill?' But they said nothing. Then he looked angrily round at them, grieved to find them so obstinate, and said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' He stretched it out and his hand was restored. The Pharisees went out and began at once to plot with the Herodians against him, discussing how to destroy him.

                R. Do we oppose God or are we living
                    under Him –

From the Priestly Newsletter Book III - 2000 Issue 3

The Father's Will for Us  - Our Source of Peace

  • Pope John Paul II instructs us: "The Church, as a reconciled and reconciling community, cannot forget that at the source of her gift and mission of reconciliation is the initiative, full of compassionate love and mercy, of that God who is love (see 1 John 4:8) and who out of love created human beings (see Wisdom 11:23-26; Genesis 1:27: Psalms 8:4-8)…He created them so that they might live in friendship with Him and in communion with one another.

"God is faithful to His eternal plan even when man, under the impulse of the evil one (see Wisdom 2:24) and carried away by his own pride, abuses the freedom given to him in order to love and generously seek what is good, and (instead) refuses to obey his Lord and Father. God is faithful even when man, instead of responding with love to God’s love, opposes Him and treats Him like a rival, deluding himself and relying on his own power, with the resulting break of relationship with the One who created him. In spite of this transgression on man’s part, God remains faithful in love.

"It is certainly true that the story of the Garden of Eden makes us think about the tragic consequences of rejecting the Father, which becomes evident in man’s inner disorder and in the breakdown of harmony between man and woman, brother and brother (see Genesis 3:12 ff; 4:1-16). Also significant is the Gospel parable of the two brothers (the parable of the ‘prodigal son’; see Luke 15:11-32) who, in different ways, distance themselves from their father and cause a rift between them. Refusal of God’s fatherly love and of His loving gifts is always at the root of humanity’s divisions.

"But we know that God…like the father in the parable (of the prodigal son), does not close His heart to any of His children. He waits for them, looks for them, goes to meet them at the place where the refusal of communion imprisons them in isolation and division. He calls them to gather about His table in the joy of the feast of forgiveness and reconciliation.

"This initiative on God’s part is made concrete and manifest in the redemptive act of Christ, which radiates through the world by means of the ministry of the Church." 13

  • In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, ‘Peace be with you,’ and, after saying this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy at seeing the Lord, and he said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.’ (Jn 20:19-21).

The world needs peace. Individual nations need peace and families need peace. The Church needs peace. Each of us individually needs peace. We must work for peace through prayer, fasting, and other Christ-like activities.

And just what do we mean by peace? St. Augustine says peace is the tranquility of order. God has put order into His creation and this order must be respected and promoted if peace is to prevail. To the extent that the human family lives according to God’s will—lives according to the order or the plan God has established for creation—to that extent does peace exist in the various segments of human society. To the extent there are violations of God’s plan, of His will, to that extent peace is absent.

If we are to be instruments of peace, we ourselves must be at peace. Our personal peace is that tranquility of order which results from our doing God’s will. The more we are united through love with God in the doing of His will, the more we experience peace.

Sometimes the sense of peace we experience is so strong that we can "feel" it pulsating throughout our being. These are periods of what we may call the experience of extraordinary peace. This type of peace usually is not an everyday occurrence.

Most of the time we live immersed in a more subdued kind of peace which results from our daily attempts to do God’s will in love. It is that peace which is a welcome and sustaining companion as we walk the path of everyday life with its usual assortments of joys and disappointments, successes and failures, laughter and tears.

Occasionally, very deep suffering may enter our lives. It is during these times that we need special determination to preserve ourselves in a basic peace of spirit despite the very significant pain. One may wonder how a person can be at peace amidst the experience of great suffering. St. Francis de Sales in one of his writings—and I have not been able to locate the exact place—offers an analogy which I think is very helpful. He asks us to picture an ocean body of water at the time of a violent storm. The surface of the water becomes extremely turbulent. Francis asks us, as we use our imagination, to descend beneath the surface of the water into its depth. What do we find? The more deeply one descends away from the turbulent surface, the calmer the water becomes. Likewise, says the saint and doctor of the Church, should it be with us during times of profound suffering. Although the surface of the spirit may be very agitated, one can still maintain basic peace of spirit by going deep down to one’s center where God is more directly experienced. Here the person experiences a calm, a basic peace, although the suffering remains.

If we are trying to do God’s will in love, God intends us to be at peace. The more we conform to God’s will, the more we are living according to the order He intends for us. In turn, the more our lives are in harmony with the order established by God, the more we experience peace—peace being the tranquility of order. The more we ourselves live in this manner, the more fit instruments we become for promoting God’s order and consequent peace throughout the various segments of society.

  • St. Dominic was an outstanding witness to the peace of the Lord: "Dominic possessed such great integrity and was so strongly motivated by divine love, that without doubt he proved to be a bearer of honor and grace. He was a man of great equanimity, except when moved to compassion and mercy. And since a joyful heart animates the face, he displayed the peaceful composure of a spiritual man in the kindness he manifested outwardly and by the cheerfulness of his countenance."14

  • Shortly before he was to die from cancer, Joseph Cardinal Bernardin left us these inspiring words about peace: "It is the first day of November, and fall is giving way to winter. Soon the trees will lose the vibrant colors of their leaves and snow will cover the ground. The earth will shut down, and people will race to and from their destinations bundled up for warmth. Chicago winters are harsh. It is a time of dying.

"But we know that spring will soon come with all its new life and wonder.

"It is quite clear that I will not be alive in the spring. But I will soon experience new life in a different way…

"What I would like to leave behind is a simple prayer that each of you may find what I have found—God’s special gift to us all: the gift of peace. When we are at peace, we find the freedom to be most fully who we are, even in the worst of times. We let go of what is non-essential and embrace what is essential. We empty ourselves so that God may more fully work within us. And we become instruments in the hands of the Lord."15

  • St. Teresa of Avila, one of the three women doctors of the Church, tells us how the spiritual life is summed up in loving conformity to the Father’s will:

"All that the beginner in prayer has to do -- and you must not forget this, for it is very important -- is to labor and to be resolute and prepare himself with all possible diligence to bring his will in conformity with the will of God. As I shall say later, you may be quite sure that this comprises the very greatest perfection which can be attained on the spiritual road."16

Again she states: "...love consists ... in the firmness of our determination to try to please God in everything." 17

Guiding Light - Reflect on the Word
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle B of the Liturgical Year
$ 15.00 plus postage

Guiding Light homily series - Reflect on the Word - Cycle B —  The Word leaves an impression on our souls. In my thoughts and reflections are born a more tangible understanding of these eternal concepts presented in the Gospels and the readings. Anyone can read a sentence, but not anyone can absorb it's true meaning. Truth, in this day and age, is almost a matter of opinion or individual entitlement. We believe that Christ's truth is our Roman Catholic Church. We, as priests, champion it's teachings; we are ambassadors for the Pope and Christ to those faces looking at us. We are the light by which our congregation reads to reflect upon real truth and we do it hand in hand. $15

Guiding Light - Steadfast to the Son
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle A of the Liturgical Year
$ 15.00 plus postage

Guiding Light homily series - Steadfast to the Son - Cycle A — The sunflower is a great example of how we should be steadfastly guided by light. What a powerful thought that this exceptional plant is not stuck in one pose day in and day out, yet adaptable and magnetized to the sun. We feel the same about our Son. Our heads turns to face Christ as each day presents its challenges to find light. We join together like plants in a field and soak up the Son through the pulpit. We are a warm circle of strength using the wind of our breath to carry our priests' words, Christ's words, to new rich soil. $15

Guiding Light - Feed My Soul
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle C of the Liturgical Year
$ 10.00 plus postage

Guiding Light - Feed My Soul
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle C of the Liturgical Year
$ 15.00 plus postage

Guiding Light - Feed My Soul - Cycle C — In a world rapidly advancing and encouraging personal gain, we are faced with modern problems. There is a challenge to find time in our busy schedules for Sunday Mass or a family meal. We are able to research, shop, bank and even work without hearing one human voice. It is no wonder that we may often feel disconnected and famished at our week's end. In Fr. Joe's third book of homilies from Cycle C, we are reminded of the charity that Christ intended us to show each other. We have a calling to turn the other cheek and be the Good Samaritan to others. We are rewarded with the Father's kingdom and love when we are not worthy. We are not left alone or hungry. $15

Guiding Light - Focusing on the Word
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle B of the Liturgical Year
$ 15.00 plus postage

Guiding Light - Focusing on the Word - Cycle B — At times we may feel that our path to Christ is a bit "out of focus". Like the disciples in the Book of Mark, this ordinary life clouds our vision of Christ's Divinity. We may doubt the practicality or possibility of applying His teachings and example to our modern life. Cycle B's homilies are a "guiding light" to help us realize Jesus' Messianic greatness and His promise of better things to come. $15

Guiding Light - The Word Alive in Our Hearts

Audio CD - Read by Father Edward J. Carter
$ 10.00  plus postage

Priestly Newsletter - 2000 #1 - CD. - Christ is Our Strength - Fr. Edward Carter, S.J. read it the year he died. It is so beautiful. "This brief passage contains one of the greatest lessons of the spiritual life. As we progress along our spiritual journey, we become increasingly aware of how weak we are in our-selves, but how strong we are in Christ. To experience our weakness involves suffering. The degree and kind of suffering can vary. The suffering can include the experience of the classical dark night of the spirit as described by St. John of the Cross. One of the main purposes of the dark night is to make a person keenly aware of his or her helplessness without God." quote by Fr. Carter from the newsletter $10

Priestly Newsletter - 2000 #2 - CD. - Suffering: A Source of Life - Fr. Edward Carter, S.J. read it the year he died. Fr. Carter knew suffering that year. His voice is so powerful as he read each Newsletter from his heart and soul. "Every man has his own share in the redemption. Each one is also called to share in that suffering through which the redemption was accomplished. He is called to share in that suffering through which all human suffering has also been redeemed. In bringing about the redemption through suffering, Christ has also raised human suffering to the level of the redemption. Thus each man in his suffering can also become a sharer in the redemptive suffering of Christ..." quote by Fr. Carter from the newsletter $10
