                R. Forgive our neighbors

We want to be forgiven, too, when we
                    do something wrong —

                On September 11, 2001 — 10 years ago —
the twin towers were destroyed —

                R. Many people lost their lives

We pray for forgiveness for those men  —
                    who did it!

                We pray for them —

We pray for those who lost their lives
                    and were victims —

We pray for their families —

Oh God, we pray, have mercy and love on us —

Oh God - help us to love as brothers and sisters —
Oh God hear our prayer —

Sirach 27: 30 - 28: 7

Resentment and anger, these are foul things too,
and a sinner is a master at them both.
Whoever exacts vengeance will experience the vengeance of the Lord,
who keeps strict account of sin.
Pardon your neighbour any wrongs done to you,
and when you pray, your sins will be forgiven.
If anyone nurses anger against another,
can one then demand compassion from the Lord?
Showing no pity for someone like oneself,
can one then plead for one's own sins?
Mere creature of flesh, yet cherishing resentment! —
who will forgive one for sinning?
Remember the last things, and stop hating,
corruption and death, and be faithful to the commandments.
Remember the commandments, and do not bear your fellow ill-will,
remember the covenant of the Most High, and ignore the offence.

Psalm 103: 1-4, 9-12

Bless Yahweh, my soul,
from the depths of my being, his holy name;
bless Yahweh, my soul,
never forget all his acts of kindness.

He forgives all your offences,
cures all your diseases,
he redeems your life from the abyss,
crowns you with faithful love and tenderness;

his indignation does not last for ever,
nor his resentment remain for all time;
he does not treat us as our sins deserve,
nor repay us as befits our offences.

As the height of heaven above earth,
so strong is his faithful love for those who fear him.
As the distance of east from west,
so far from us does he put our faults.

Romans 14: 7-9

For none of us lives for himself and none of us dies for himself; while we are alive, we are living for the Lord, and when we die, we die for the Lord: and so, alive or dead, we belong to the Lord. It was for this purpose that Christ both died and came to life again: so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

Matthew 18: 21-35

Then Peter went up to him and said, ‘Lord, how often must I forgive my brother if he wrongs me? As often as seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘Not seven, I tell you, but seventy–seven times.

Parable of the unforgiving debtor

‘And so the kingdom of Heaven may be compared to a king who decided to settle his accounts with his servants. When the reckoning began, they brought him a man who owed ten thousand talents; he had no means of paying, so his master gave orders that he should be sold, together with his wife and children and all his possessions, to meet the debt. At this, the servant threw himself down at his master’s feet, with the words, "Be patient with me and I will pay the whole sum." And the servant’s master felt so sorry for him that he let him go and cancelled the debt. Now as this servant went out, he happened to meet a fellow–servant who owed him one hundred denarii; and he seized him by the throat and began to throttle him, saying, "Pay what you owe me." His fellow–servant fell at his feet and appealed to him, saying, "Be patient with me and I will pay you." But the other would not agree; on the contrary, he had him thrown into prison till he should pay the debt. His fellow–servants were deeply distressed when they saw what had happened, and they went to their master and reported the whole affair to him. Then the master sent for the man and said to him, "You wicked servant, I cancelled all that debt of yours when you appealed to me. Were you not bound, then, to have pity on your fellow–servant just as I had pity on you?" And in his anger the master handed him over to the torturers till he should pay all his debt. And that is how my heavenly Father will deal with you unless you each forgive your brother from your heart.’

                R. Our Saint today — St. Peter Claver

                    He was a Spaniard — He died 1654 —
He came to this hemisphere —
He cared for African slaves —
10,000 slaves would be brought in
                        every year from Africa —
1/3 would die coming over on the ocean —

He was said to have baptized
                        300,000 slaves.

St. Peter called himself the slave of the slaves —

                September 11, 2001 Memorial

Fr. Joe was going to do a funeral when the twin
                    towers were destroyed and he
had the television on and he
                    could not believe it —

I saw it on television — I went to Mass and I started
crying after Mass — I thought for no reason —
Jesus filled me with sorrow —
                    Tears streamed down my cheeks
I knew not why — then I left and
saw it while happening on the T.V.

The United States was in war with Iraq and
                    Afghanistan —
                    We suffered.
The government is to protect us

                    Forgiveness —
                        getting even doesn't work —
                        bitterness eats us up inside

Song: Why Do We Hurt the Ones We Love

                R. We pray for the whole world to get along as
                    brothers and sisters. Amen —

We pray for those who died on September 11, 2001
in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.

We pray for forgiveness — to forgive
and to love each other as brothers and
                    sisters —

Let us pray that we can follow in
                    the example of Jesus —

Dear God help us to serve You well —

                Jesus we praise You —

                We love, love You, Jesus!!
We love Jesus all day —
We praise Jesus all day —

                Thank You Jesus —
                We adore You, Jesus —
                We worship You, Jesus
We love You so much —
We need You, our Savior —
                God, we love You —

                Jesus, the Son of God,
                    we love You
                    we adore You, God

We love You, Jesus, we love You
                    all day —

We love You in the Morning, at Noon,
and at the sun setting —

                Jesus, our love —

Let us have time to think about
                    Jesus and what God wants
                    in our lives —

We listen to You God —
We want to please You and love You —
                God our beloved —
                Jesus our Savior

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

September 15, 2008

HOMILY – (Sirach 27:30–28:7, Romans 14:7-9, Matthew 18:21-35) Jesus is talking about one of his favorite topics, forgiveness. As a counselor I know what unforgiveness does to the individual who cannot let go of pain or hurt someone has caused them. And as a ordinary citizen, just reading the paper tells me what unforgiveness does to nations, as they keep trying to get even with one another for some real or imagined act of cruelty. Some of the battles between different nationalities have roots that go back hundreds of years. Jesus is telling us we have to go even beyond the moderate rule of “eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” I couldn’t find the exact quote, but I think it was Martin Luther King who said, if we all insisted on an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, soon everyone in the world would be blind and toothless. We can’t hold on to our hating and desire for revenge forever.

Besides having today’s readings remind us about the importance of forgiveness, today is also Stewardship Sunday. That means I get to talk about one of my favorite topics: money. Actually, it’s not one of my favorite topics. Fortunately the people of St. Boniface have been very supportive of their parish and I have to talk about it only infrequently. But once in a while I do have to deal with “money,” especially on Stewardship Sunday.

You know “the love of money is the root of all evil,” St. James tells us. Money can buy a house, but not a home. It can buy a bed, but not sleep. It can buy a clock, but not time. It can buy you a book, but not knowledge. It can buy you a position, but not respect. It can buy you medicine, but not health. It can buy you blood, but not life. It can buy you sex, but not love. How many times have we heard it said: “money isn’t everything.” And it often causes pain and suffering. I tell you all this because I care about all of you. As your friend, I want to help you reduce pain and suffering in your life. So send me all your money and I will suffer for you!

Like that? It was a good story for Stewardship Sunday. Today’s parable is another good story. You know, a good story has many applications, and today’s gospel is an excellent illustration of stewardship. A couple of things might help us get a feel for this story. Our translation tells us the man owed a huge amount. The original version (in the Greek) says the man owed his king ten thousand talents. In today’s money that would be about 2 or 3 billion dollars. It was customary for people who couldn’t pay off their debts to be sold into slavery. That was the way society worked. The king’s generosity was beyond belief. The man whose debt was cancelled was owed (again looking at the original Greek) a hundred denarii. Translated into today’s dollars, that’sabout $5000. It boggles our mind to think that anyone could be as selfish as the man in today’s gospel. He is an tremendous example of what stewardship is not. He was given so much and in spite of the unbelievable example of generosity shown by his king, he hadn’t learned how to be generous with anything.

Stewardship means we recognize what we have been given isn’t just for our own selfish use. We’re not in this world only for our own benefit, but we’re here to help one another. And what we have, we’re not going to take with us. The only thing we will take with us is our love for God and our love for others. Developing an attitude of stewardship, teaches us how to love. It also teaches us how to be grateful. What haven’t we been given? Even the things we have acquired by our own industry we owe in gratefulness to our creator, for God gave us the time and talent and positive stimuli that influenced our lives to make it possible for us to accomplish what we have. Stewardship is awareness of how indebted we are to God and to others. It is gratitude. It is love. It is sharing. There are lots of needs in our world today. A lot of people here I am sure have real needs in their own families, so I’m not trying to take all your money as my humorous little comments suggested. I’m not even trying to take all of your charitable donations for St. Boniface. But I do have to speak up for our parish every now and then, or I would not be a good steward, a good caretaker of this parish.

Last year you might remember, we ran short for the year, and I asked people if they could to increase their donations by about 10%. Many $10 donations went up to $11 and many $20 donations went up to $22. I thank you. It worked. This year, on June 30, we ended our fiscal year ahead by $5,470. That’s good. And I bet most of those who increased their donations by a dollar or two didn’t miss that extra few dollars at the end of the month.

Our big expense this year will be a new boiler for the church and the school. The estimate came in for $41,600. With asbestos removal the cost will be over $50,000. We have one boiler, but it won’t carry the load all by itself. We do have a couple of cheaper options, but they could cost us more $$$ in the future. This was the best choice. Normally I might have to have a special appeal for the funds, but we were blessed this year. Recently, a person in this neighborhood left us a bequest of $30,000 in his will. This is a good thing to keep in mind when you make out your will. Remember your parish. You’ve never seen a Brinks truck following a hearse! All we’ll take with us is our love for God and the good deeds we have done for others. With this bequest, I’m hoping if people can be just a little bit more generous, we won’t have to have a special appeal. Another topic: People have asked what’s going on with the bells. We have a figure from Verdin, the company that put them in, in the first place, for about $30,000. We’re still trying to see if we can fix them cheaper. The first thing we need to do is clean out the bell tower. The pigeons have been using it for a bathroom and burial ground, so we have to start there before we can do anything else. Stay tuned on this one.

I could spend a long time telling you about stained glass windows, roofs, boilers and bells. But I think what I’ve said will give you a good enough picture of where we are financially. Whatever you can do to help out will be greatly appreciated. The parish has always come through in the past, so I’m confident we’ll do OK and I want to say a big “thank you” to those who keep St. Boniface going, not only with donations of treasure, but also with donations of time and talent. Amen.

                R. People can suffer in dysfunctional homes —

Many times they are forced to endure it if children
                    in a dysfunctional home —

So many learn to deny reality so they can
                    survive —

The Alanon program used for people
                    being effected by Alcoholics in
the family — call it the
                    Merry-go-round called denial —

They are trained to deny what has
happened in their home as children —
but the pain mounts up — they learn
                    to stuff their feelings —

Then their manner can be to continue
to stuff that they can be angry
                    inside, full of pain, unable
                    to relate tenderly with others
                    in heart-felt relationships
because they have shut down their
                    feelings —

                Anger is expressed —
                    passive-aggressive —
                    crying —

they can project their hurt feelings
                        on others doing nothing, but
                        operating in work etc. —

                    hurt feelings, unforgotten and denied
                        to survive the dysfunctional
home come rolling out like a
roller coaster going down hill if
they can get away with acting out
hurt feelings on an innocent other
just being with them, working with
                        them —

getting even over nothing is a big
sign of some problems inside —

We are not in adulthood supposed to
work out in games these stuffed feelings in
an attempt to feel, to clear up the
garbage piled up in our hearts —

A person who has stuffed feelings inside, in
an attempt to get in touch with their
hearts can become addicted to things
the second they receive a small frustration
                    they reach for a fix

If they feel bored because they have not
                    developed normal relationships —
                they can provoke someone they
can get away with to cause excitement
for the lack of relationship inside —

                This adverse behavior punishing others
                    in passive-aggressive ways drives
us away from unity with God who
                    is love —

We cannot be hateful, bitter, provoking for
fun, to our brothers and expect to
get closer to God who is all kind,
all loving, who is gentle and meek in
                    heart —

This behavior can become a habit —
Like if someone disappoints me, I
                        can smoke a cigarette,
                            take a drink,
store the anger and get even later —

People can use needed things to force
                    their behavior on others —
A mother with small children can
                        be subject to abuse because
if she is in charge of caring for babies
and the man is to make money to live —
he can force things on her and withhold
the needed money she needs to live —

A person provoking others to anger to act
out their own anger is offending God
                    and driving themselves from intimacy
                    with God —

A person trained to deny their feelings can
try to force others into co-dependent
games to act out their pain, abuse or
                    use passive-aggressive measures because
                    of pent up anger —

God intends us to work and produce goods,
                    give services of love  —

Genesis 3: 19

By the sweat of your face
       will you earn your food,
until you return to the ground,
as you were taken from it.
       For dust you are
and to dust you shall return.’

                R. God commissions us in baptism to go
out and spread the Good News —

A man had a leaky toilet — he had to fix it!

If he went out and cut the grass to
fix his toilet it would not help.

Relationships are God's gift to man —

                Being engaged working smoothly, in
order in life — producing goods,
                    rendering services —

Living in order means that structures
is in place and responsibility to
do ones duty as called by God —

                Slothfulness is depression towards
                    spiritual goods —

The opposite of this is eagerness to serve
                    God —
                    zeal for spiritual goods —
on fire to build God's Kingdom —

If we go again to the scene
playing on the surface of the earth —

                Enter on the stage
                    different people
                    working in structure —
glad to be obedient to the rule —
                    Serving God willingly —
                    Serving God with enthusiasm —

Watching good coming from the work —
                    producing goods,
                    rendering services in love —

Living one's vocation in love —

A person caught up in wounds from
                    the past and hurting others,
lethargy is like the lazy pond —

                It runs over —
                It doesn't have boundaries —
                It is unpredictable —

Pain comes up and it retaliates
in a big measure to punish
                    an innocent other —

                Work cannot be accomplished producing
goods for they force their games on
                    others with needed goods —

God help us to live and function to
                    do God's will —

Not be counseled by satan who
                    wants this sadness
                        this dysfunction,
                        satan to orchestrate the
                        plan through the dysfunction
                        hurting all —

Glorious Mysteries

                The Resurrection

                (1) Jesus: I call you to holiness —
to be as God wants you to
be — to say "yes" as Mary
did — doing the Father's will

                (2) Jesus: I rose from the dead — I suffered
                    the bitter passion for love
of you — I died for your sins

Death - Resurrection

                (3) Song: A Song from Jesus - Sing

                (4) R. Glory, Glory, Glory Lord was
                    a song I wrote in
                    my notebook
                    April, 1995.

                    Sing: Glory, Glory, Glory Lord

                (5) Jesus: You have a free will —
                    You must recognize
                        denial in your hearts
                        about pain that is
                        clogging your hearts —

                (6) Jesus: I want to be so close to you
                        recognize the intimacy
                        I want with you —

                (7) Jesus: Sin drives you away
                        from intimacy with Me —
I died for your sins —
                    Tell yourself the truth
                        about stuffed feelings.
                    Let them out of the
                        stuffed box of pain —
                        go to your room and
                        cry — do not hurt
                        others for your
                        pain, stuffed and
                        yourself living in denial.

                (8) Jesus: See the gift I have given —
                        Live in the Moment —
                        Loving and riding yourself
                            of sin —
brings you closer to Me —

                (9) Jesus: I want a beautiful
                        bride — one living
                        in purity and truth —

                (10) Jesus: One saying yes to your
duty to serve Me and not give
                        into satan —
                        So many people who need
                            healing and are in denial
                            begin the same
                            ugliness on Thursday
                            night and then ruin
                            every weekend —
                            acting out their pain
                                from a dysfunctional
                                home —

                        Quit lying about stuffed
                            pain —
                        Addictions come from
                            stuffed pain —
                            You eat, drink, drug,
                                provoke, hurt,
                                abuse to numb
                                the truth about
                                pain —

                        People from dysfunctional
                            homes lived to be
                            in denial to survive —

                        Be free
                        Pray to be healed
                        Tell the truth —

                        When you block union
                            working with others
                            because of your
                            relationship skills —

                        You deprive yourself
                            of life —

I command you to love God
and love others as yourselves —

                The Ascension

                (1) Jesus: I ascended into heaven —

                (2) Jesus: Go into the world and spread
                        the Good News —

                (3) Jesus: Be My instruments of
                        love —

                (4) Jesus: Live to be pure like Mary,
                        the perfect handmaid
                        of the Lord

                (5) Jesus: Examine your conscience,
                        pray for real sorrow
                        for your sins —

                (6) Jesus: Take time to remember My gifts
                        to you —
                        Be thankful for what you
                            are receiving now —

                (7) Jesus: Don't stay caved in — in
                        your stagnant buckets
                        of old pain —

                (8) Jesus: Ask for forgiveness from
                        others, from Me —

                (9) Jesus: Quit putting pride ahead of
                        a loving heart —

                (10) Song: Why Do We Hurt the Ones We Love

The Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles

                (1) Acts 2: 1-4

When Pentecost day came round, they had all met together, when suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind which filled the entire house in which they were sitting; and there appeared to them tongues as of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages as the Spirit gave them power to express themselves.

                (2) Jesus: Pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you, now —

                (3) Jesus: Discern the spirits —

                (4) Jesus: Being jealous
                        Being envious
                        Being disobedient to authority
lead you to greater and greater darkness —

                (5) Jesus: Evil is evil — it never
                        turns to good —

                (6) Jesus: The devil tells you what
                        is wrong is right and
                        what is right is
                        wrong —

                (7) Jesus: Live to love
                        Live to say "yes" to
                        serving God as He

                (7) Excerpt from July 5, 2011 Rosary

Transcribed live from a tape - Clearwater, Florida

At the end of the rosary:

Mary speaks and she says: Count the stars if you can. Can you my child, count the stars in the darkened night? Why can you not count the stars? Oh, you can't do it. Think of that my child. How many things you do not know that are impossible for you to know on your own. For God has given to you great insights in these two days of retreat, and great grace has been granted to you, if you will cooperate with the grace, that your hearts will know Jesus, more and more fully, that you will be transformed more and more, in the image of my Son Jesus. Do whatever He tells you, my child. Let Him work in your life. Do not try and control what is opposed to the will of the Father, for it will bring you great unhappiness.

It is in seeking the will of God. It is in wanting to study and to know your God. It is in coming as a docile, small child, ready to be taught, that you will have the greatest happiness in your life. And the light of Jesus will shine from you, and others will see His life in you, and they will be touched, because God will use you as His instrument to witness to His love in this world. The world belongs to God and you belong to God. Do not fight the plan of the Father, by trying to be willful, by running your life against what He has planned for you.

For you have been given great talents to make a contribution, on this earth that will last long after you are gone, if you do not fight the plan of the Father, but that if you are docile to His touch, trying to seek, to know all that God wants you to know, that you will live as God intended you to live, to further His Kingdom, to spread love to others, and to grow in your purity and love of God yourself. I am Mary, your spiritual Mother. My Spouse the Holy Spirit wants to fill you now with His wisdom, with His grace, with His love, with His gift of discernment, but you must be docile to His touch. Come to my Immaculate Heart and He will work in your lives forming you more and more in the image of Jesus.

Oh my precious little one, I watched my Son as He died - for you — out of love for you. He rose on the third day that you could share His life, that you could be filled more abundantly at every moment with His life, that you could live out the plan of the Father in your lives, and be at peace even in suffering. I am your Heavenly Mother and I speak to you now. I speak to you, really speak to you. Study this message. Study this message and your life will be a life of peace. I am the Queen of Peace. I am the Queen of the Universe. I am Our Lady of Clearwater, your Heavenly Mother. Now my children, pray for all your needs. Ask the Holy Spirit to pray for you, now, for what you need, and then say loudly - Amen. Amen.

Hail Mary

Sing: Come unto Me all who are weary and find rest for your soul etc.

Jesus: I am Jesus your Savior and I am with you in a special way this night. Stop now and focus on God: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who fills your graced, baptized soul. Let go, little one. Know Our presence with you. For you do not walk alone. I am with you and I love you. To My death on the cross, I loved you, dear and sweet precious one. Gift of My Heavenly Father to this earth. Do not listen to satan. Pray to know the truth. The truth that God created you uniquely special, to make a contribution that goes far beyond your days on this earth. For He has made you great, for His purpose. He has created you and you belong to Him. Why would you fight this, for your own foolish whims, for the misery that you cause yourself when you oppose the Father's will — little sweet and dear loved ones.

Sing: I come to you with greatest love (A Song from Jesus)

Sing: I love you this day (God's Love)

Jesus: I give you Myself in the Eucharist. I long for you to come to Me, to be with Me. You who have given your lives to this service, be at peace. Know how much I love you. Do not be anxious, that what you convey to others is your joy at serving Me, at knowing My constant presence with you, of giving yourself to your Divine Bridegroom. I am the Bridegroom of your soul. Come to Me little sweet one.

And the sky was rolled back. It was rolled back, like the white cloth, rolled down the isle, for the bride to walk, to the bridegroom. Do not leave your bridegroom, betrayed at the altar of your life. Every day walk the isle, My precious bride, to My waiting arms and give your day and your life to Me. I long for you. I long to share every moment with you, that I am with you, around you, in you, and you are never alone.

Do not give into fear or going to the closet of fear and locking the door. When I knock on the door, there you are, with the old bad habits of fear. Or nurturing the old habits of 'poor me' and 'it's your fault'. Turn over your lives and your wills to God. Pray for the grace this night, the grace that I want to give to you, the healing grace that you will be My witness in this world, a light to the people in the market place, for they will see My light in you. They will know My love, and they will be touched as I operate through you.

Mary: Oh children, listen to Jesus. This is the building of the Two Hearts, and We are with you in a special way. Let the Holy Spirit fill you now. Be one with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Know that the Lady of Clearwater has never left this building, that I am here and that special graces are given to all who come, graces of healing, graces of being touched in their hearts, strength in the midst of adversity. Tremendous gifts are given to you from this place, from the statues with the glass. When you pray the Shepherds of Christ prayers you will know great healing in your homes, for your families and for yourself. Have faith, my little ones. I am your Mother, your spiritual Mother, Our Lady of Clearwater. The waters that were given to you, the Jesus Water and the Mary Water are special waters — waters of healing — waters to ward against satan. Use the waters wisely and know that God will grant to you special favors, for your faith, but your faith must increase. You must pray to God to increase your faith. I am Mary your Mother and I love you.

Hail Holy Queen

The Memorare

Mary: Come to the building, especially on the 5ths, and come and pray during the retreats. For your Heavenly Father wants you to help make reparation in praying, because the human race has majorly offended God. But your prayers weigh heavy in the heavenly courts. Be holy my chosen one. That the message that you give to others, is a message of love, that they will be touched by your holiness. And know that God is at work there. So they will seek Him and love Him, and find what they were created for - life in Him. I am your heavenly Mother, and I am here in this building. I am present with you now. I appear in great white light that you will know I have never left, and my Son, Jesus is here with you. Thank you for your prayers, for the human race. Pray with the prayers in China this month on retreat. I love you. I am your heavenly Mother. Your prayers weighed heavy in the courts of God. When you listen to the call of Jesus to pray here as He has requested, as the Heavenly Father has requested, as I have requested, and the prayers in China in the retreat ending on the 13th. Pray my little one, for you please your Heavenly Father greatly. I am Mary your Mother and I am with you now. Take a moment to just sit and feel this special time that God wants to touch your soul. I am Mary and I am with you. Jesus is with you. Pray now for your needs. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. God Bless America.

Please. Amen.

Sing: God Bless America

The Holy Spirit and Mary

The late Archbishop Luis M. Martinez of Mexico strikingly speaks of the ongoing cooperation of Mary with the Holy Spirit regarding the reproduction of Jesus within us: "Christian life is the reproduction of Jesus in souls…

"Now, how will this mystical reproduction be brought about in souls? In the same way in which Jesus was brought into the world, for God gives a wonderful mark of unity to all His works. Divine acts have a wealth of variety because they are the work of omnipotence; nevertheless, a most perfect unity always shines forth from them because they are the fruit of wisdom; and this divine contrast of unity and variety stamps the works of God with sublime and unutterable beauty.

"In His miraculous birth, Jesus was the fruit of heaven and earth…The Holy Spirit conveyed the divine fruitfulness of the Father to Mary, and this virginal soul brought forth in an ineffable manner our most loving Savior, the divine Seed, as the prophets called Him…

"That is the way He is reproduced in souls. He is always the fruit of heaven and earth.

"Two artisans must concur in the work that is at once God’s masterpiece and humanity’s supreme product: the Holy Spirit and the most holy Virgin Mary. Two sanctifiers are necessary to souls, the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, for they are the only ones who can reproduce Christ.

"Undoubtedly, the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary sanctify us in different ways. The first is the Sanctifier by essence: because He is God, who is infinite sanctity; because He is the personal Love that completes, so to speak, the sanctity of God, consummating His life and His unity, and it belongs to Him to communicate to souls the mystery of that sanctity. The Virgin Mary, for her part, is the co-operator, the indispensable instrument in and by God’s design. From Mary’s maternal relation to the human body of Christ is derived her relation to His Mystical Body which is being formed through all the centuries until the end of time, when it will be lifted up to the heavens, beautiful, splendid, complete, and glorious.

"These two, then, the Holy Spirit and Mary, are the indispensable sanctifiers of souls. Any saint in heaven can co-operate in the sanctification of a soul, but his co-operation is not necessary, not profound, not constant; while the co-operation of these two artisans of Jesus of whom we have been speaking is so necessary that without it souls are not sanctified (and this by the actual design of Providence), and so intimate that it reaches to the very depth of our soul. For the Holy Spirit pours charity into our heart, makes a habitation of our soul, and directs our spiritual life by means of His gifts. The Virgin Mary has the efficacious influence of Mediatrix in the most profound and delicate operations of grace in our souls. And, finally, the action of the Holy Spirit and the co-operation of the most holy Virgin Mary are constant; without them, not one single character of Jesus would be traced on our souls, no virtue grown, no gift be developed, no grace increased, no bond of union with God be strengthened in the rich flowering of the spiritual life.

"Such is the place that the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary have in the order of sanctification. Therefore, Christian piety should put these two artisans of Christ in their true place, making devotion to them something necessary, profound, and constant."14

The Theology of Consecration

    A. Boussard gives an extremely fine and concise sketch of the theology of consecration:

"By the Incarnation, in and of itself, the Humanity of Jesus is consecrated, so that in becoming Man, Jesus is ipso facto constituted Savior, Prophet, King, Priest, and Victim of the One Sacrifice that was to save the world. He is the ‘Anointed’, par excellence, the ‘Christ’ totally belonging to God, His Humanity being that of the Word and indwelled by the Holy Spirit. When, by a free act of His human will, He accepts what He is, doing what He was sent to do, He can say that He consecrates ‘Himself’. In Christ, therefore, what might be called His ‘subjective’ consecration is a perfect response to the ‘objective’ consecration produced in His Humanity through the Incarnation.

"And what Christ does brings with it a ‘consecration’ for His disciples, a very special belonging to God, since He imparts to them His own life precisely by making them participate in His own consecration.

"Through Baptism Christians also are consecrated and ‘anointed’ by the power of the Spirit. They share, in their measure, in the essential consecration of Christ, in His character of King, Priest, and Prophet (cf. 1 Peter 2:9; 7 Peter 1:3-4; Rev. 5:9, etc.). With Christ and through Christ, they are ‘ordered’ to the glory of God and the salvation of the world. They do not belong to themselves. They belong to Christ the Lord, who imparts His own life to them…

"The vocation of those who have been baptized is to ‘live’ this consecration by a voluntary adherence—and one that is as perfect as possible—to what it has made of them. Living as ‘children of God’, they fulfill subjectively their objective consecration; like Jesus, they consecrate themselves. This is the deeper meaning of vows and baptismal promises, together with the actual way of life corresponding to them. The baptismal consecration is the fundamental one, constitutive of the Christian. All consecrations which come after it presuppose and are rooted in it…"55

                (10) From Tell My People by Fr. Edward J. Carter

The Holy Spirit

Jesus: "My beloved friend, tell My people to pray daily to the Holy Spirit. They are to pray for an increase in His gifts. My people must realize that the Holy Spirit comes to transform them. The Spirit desires to transform you more and more according to My image. Those who are docile to His touch become increasingly shaped in My likeness. He performs this marvel within Mary's Immaculate Heart. The more one dwells in My Mother's Heart, the more active are the workings of the Spirit. The Spirit leads Mary to place you within My own Heart. In both Our Hearts, then, your transformation continues. The more you are formed after My own Heart, the more I lead you to the bosom of My Father. Tell My people all this. Tell them to pray daily for a greater appreciation of these wondrous gifts. I am Lord and Master. All who come to My Heart will be on fire to receive the gifts of the Spirit in ever greater measure! I love and bless My people!"

Reflection: The Holy Spirit is given to us to fashion us ever more according to the likeness of Jesus. And the more we are like Jesus, the more Jesus leads us to the Father. Do we, each day, pray to the Holy Spirit to be more open to His transforming influence? Do we strive each day to grow in union with Mary? The greater our union with our Mother, the spouse of the Holy Spirit, the greater is the transforming action of the Holy Spirit within us.

                (3)  Excerpts from Tell My People by Fr. Edward J. Carter, S.J.

Age of the Two Hearts

Jesus:  "My beloved priest-companion, I have allowed you to experience in extraordinary fashion the riches contained in My Heart and My Mother's Heart. I desire that you tell all My people about these riches. I desire that My people consecrate themselves to My Sacred Heart and to Mary's Immaculate Heart. My people are living in the beginnings of the age of the Two Hearts.

"After the time of the purification is completed, this new era of the Church and the world will become firmly established. This era will be characterized by the triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the reign of My Sacred Heart. All those who consecrate themselves to My Heart and to My Mother's Heart will help to establish this glorious new age. I am Lord and Master. Please listen to My urgent request. Within Our Hearts you will experience the love and security, the peace and the joy, which you all desire. I love My people with a tremendous love, and in My love I give them this message!"

                (4) Tell My People continues

Children of Mary

Mary: "My beloved priest-son, how often I have embraced you! How often I have told you how much I love you! How often, at your request, I have held you in my arms as my child. You have told me you realize how helpless you are of yourself, but how strong and secure you feel dwelling in my heart and Jesus' Heart. Your sense of your littleness and helplessness endears you to me all the more. I take you ever more securely to my maternal and Immaculate Heart. Tell all my people of the riches you have found within my heart. Tell them how I place you within my Son's Heart. Tell them that, because of my motherly action, you are now more closely united with Jesus than ever before. Tell my people to come to my heart and draw forth similar riches. Tell all my little ones that Jesus, Who is Lord and Master, bids me to lead all to His Sacred Heart. The more my little ones dwell within my Immaculate Heart, the more I place them within Jesus' Heart. Oh, how I love all my little ones! How I love to bring them to the Heart of Jesus!"

Reflection: Again, let us remind ourselves that we live in the Age of the Two Hearts. The Hearts of Jesus and Mary are inseparable. The more we dwell in Mary's heart, the more she places us within Jesus' Heart. Within these Two Hearts, the Holy Spirit fashions us more and more in the likeness of Christ, and the more we become like Christ, the more closely He unites us to the Father.

                (5) Tell My People continues

Mary, Model and Teacher of Love

Mary: "My beloved priest-son, I have led you to greatly increase your prayers and sacrifices for others. I have often reminded you of my teaching at Fatima--that many souls go to Hell because they have no one to pray and make sacrifices for them. My Immaculate Heart longs that all my little ones be saved. Tell my little ones that they must love their neighbor through prayer, sacrifices, and other ways, too. All should learn from me. My Heart is symbol, not only of my great love for God, but also of my tender love for all my little ones. Imitate my love for God and all my children. If you love Jesus and me, this means you also love all of God's children. Jesus died for all. You cannot exclude anyone from your love.

"My Heart is the perfect imitator of the Heart of my Son. I will teach you how to love the Father and all mankind after the example of Jesus. All my little ones, I long for you to come to my Heart so I can teach you the ways of love! I love you so much! Come to my Immaculate Heart. Pressed against my Heart, I will hold you in my arms. I will clothe you with my motherly and protective mantle. As I hold you close to my Heart, I will teach you the ways of love!"

Reflection: In the above message, our dear mother tenderly reminds us that the following of Jesus is summed up in love of God and neighbor.

                (6) Tell My People continues

Mary as Our Mediatrix

Mary: "My beloved priest-son, I have given you a profound conviction of how necessary it is to realize I am your motherly mediatrix with Jesus. I have been appointed by the Triune God. Constantly remind all my little ones of this great truth! The more my little ones give themselves to my maternal and Immaculate Heart, the more I bring them to the Heart of Jesus!"

Reflection: Some mistakenly think that Mary "gets in the way" of their relationship with Jesus. How far from the truth is this erroneous attitude. Mary's role in our salvation has been willed by God. Enough said!

                (7) Tell My People continues

The Riches of the Immaculate Heart

Mary: "My beloved priest-son, how often I have pressed you to my maternal and Immaculate Heart in the greatest love! How often I allow you to taste the sweetness of this Heart. How often I make you aware that my Heart is your refuge where you feel so much loved, where you feel so secure, where you feel bathed in peace! I desire that you tell all the people about the riches contained in my Immaculate Heart. Tell my people to come to my Heart each day. I will caress them with my maternal love. I will lead them ever closer to the Sacred Heart of my Son. I will tell them to listen to Jesus. I will remind them that He is their Lord and Master. I will remind them to do whatever He tells them to do.

"Yes, my dearly beloved son, tell my people all these things. Keep reminding them of my great love for them. Keep reminding them how I love to draw them to my maternal and Immaculate Heart!"

Reflection: Is there anyone who, listening to these words of Mary, does not long for a closer union with the loving Heart of our Mother?

                (8) Tell My People continues

Spiritual Childhood

Mary: "My beloved priest-son, how I love to enfold you in my arms as my little child! Enfolded in my arms in my maternal embrace, I press you against my Immaculate Heart. I draw you within my Heart. There, through my maternal intercession, I clothe you with Jesus' graces. As you dwell in my Heart, I place you ever more deeply within Jesus' Heart and there the Holy Spirit fashions you increasingly in the image of my Son. As you grow in the likeness of Jesus, He takes you ever closer to the Father.

"Thus, as you grow in the sense of your helplessness without God, the stronger you become in Jesus. Childlike thus becomes strength. The smaller you become in living out spiritual childhood, the taller you stand beside Jesus. Weakness becomes strength, your sense of helplessness becomes spiritual maturity!

"Tell all my children about the wonders of spiritual childhood! Tell them to come to me and I will school them in its ways. How I love all my children! Oh, how I love to exercise my motherhood toward them all!"

Reflection: In the Gospel, Jesus speaks emphatically to us about spiritual childhood: "At this time the disciples came to Jesus and said, 'Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?' So he called a little child to him and set the child in front of them. Then he said, 'I tell you solemnly, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven'" (Matthew 18:1-4).

                (9) Tell My People continues

Mother of Our Christian Virtues

Mary: "My beloved priest-son, I wish all my children to come to my Immaculate Heart each day. I cooperate with the Holy Spirit in helping all my little ones to grow in the life of the Christian virtues. As my children dwell within my maternal Heart, the Holy Spirit leads them along the path of the virtues. Faith, hope, love, prudence, justice, fortitude, temperance, humility, chastity, and the other virtues take deeper root in the hearts of my children. Above all, the queen of the virtues, love, increasingly rules the lives of my little ones.

"I am ever at the side of my children to help them grow in the life of the virtues. As I do so, I place them more deeply within the Heart of Jesus, the source of growth in all the virtues. The Holy Spirit, then, desires that my children dwell both within my Heart and Jesus' Heart. Within Our Hearts He clothes you with growth in the life of the virtues. The more you dwell in my Heart, the more ready you are for my placing you deeply within the Heart of Jesus where the Holy Spirit clothes you more and more with the splendor of all the virtues. Thus you grow in the likeness of Christ, and Jesus unites you more closely to the Father."

Reflection: Since Mary is our spiritual Mother, she has a special God-given role in helping us grow in the life of the Christian virtues. As she tenderly and lovingly leads us in the life of the virtues, she is our great model in how to follow Christ. She lived the Christian virtues perfectly. She is so eager to help us increasingly put on Christ through a more dynamic living of the Christian virtues, especially the virtue of love.

Guiding Light - Steadfast to the Son
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle A of the Liturgical Year
$ 10.00 plus postage

Guiding Light homily series - Steadfast to the Son - Cycle A — The sunflower is a great example of how we should be steadfastly guided by light. What a powerful thought that this exceptional plant is not stuck in one pose day in and day out, yet adaptable and magnetized to the sun. We feel the same about our Son. Our heads turns to face Christ as each day presents its challenges to find light. We join together like plants in a field and soak up the Son through the pulpit. We are a warm circle of strength using the wind of our breath to carry our priests' words, Christ's words, to new rich soil. $15

Guiding Light - Feed My Soul
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle C of the Liturgical Year
$ 10.00 plus postage

Guiding Light - Feed My Soul - Cycle C — In a world rapidly advancing and encouraging personal gain, we are faced with modern problems. There is a challenge to find time in our busy schedules for Sunday Mass or a family meal. We are able to research, shop, bank and even work without hearing one human voice. It is no wonder that we may often feel disconnected and famished at our week's end. In Fr. Joe's third book of homilies from Cycle C, we are reminded of the charity that Christ intended us to show each other. We have a calling to turn the other cheek and be the Good Samaritan to others. We are rewarded with the Father's kingdom and love when we are not worthy. We are not left alone or hungry. $15

Guiding Light - Focusing on the Word
Inspiring Homilies Covering Cycle B of the Liturgical Year
$ 10.00 plus postage

Guiding Light - Focusing on the Word - Cycle B — At times we may feel that our path to Christ is a bit "out of focus". Like the disciples in the Book of Mark, this ordinary life clouds our vision of Christ's Divinity. We may doubt the practicality or possibility of applying His teachings and example to our modern life. Cycle B's homilies are a "guiding light" to help us realize Jesus' Messianic greatness and His promise of better things to come. $15

Priestly Newsletter - 2000 #1 - CD. - Christ is Our Strength - Fr. Edward Carter, S.J. read it the year he died. It is so beautiful. "This brief passage contains one of the greatest lessons of the spiritual life. As we progress along our spiritual journey, we become increasingly aware of how weak we are in our-selves, but how strong we are in Christ. To experience our weakness involves suffering. The degree and kind of suffering can vary. The suffering can include the experience of the classical dark night of the spirit as described by St. John of the Cross. One of the main purposes of the dark night is to make a person keenly aware of his or her helplessness without God." quote by Fr. Carter from the newsletter $10

Priestly Newsletter - 2000 #2 - CD. - Suffering: A Source of Life - Fr. Edward Carter, S.J. read it the year he died. Fr. Carter knew suffering that year. His voice is so powerful as he read each Newsletter from his heart and soul. "Every man has his own share in the redemption. Each one is also called to share in that suffering through which the redemption was accomplished. He is called to share in that suffering through which all human suffering has also been redeemed. In bringing about the redemption through suffering, Christ has also raised human suffering to the level of the redemption. Thus each man in his suffering can also become a sharer in the redemptive suffering of Christ..." quote by Fr. Carter from the newsletter $10
